Guest Boo_Bradley Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Buddy Rogers and pat patterson are both recognized for winning title tourneys for WWWF belts in R.D.J. Over at kayfabe memories, someone finally revealed why: When the promoters were 1st planning on giving Buddy Rogers a "phanthom" title win, the 1st choice for the man he was to beat in the (non existant) finals was Bobo Brazil. Brazil told the promoters that in no way shape or form did he want that distinction. So Antonio Rocca went down in history as losing to Rogers in Rio De Jinero, BRAZIL as a "rib" of sorts on Bobo. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Why didn't didn't they just have an actual match on a House Card?
Guest Boo_Bradley Report post Posted July 23, 2003 There was no such thing as WWWF "House shows" yet, as the WWWF was just starting. I guess. Go look around in KM.com

Betty Houle 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 sherri beat moolah in paris in 87 Sherri beat Moolah in Texas in the fall of 1987. Rockin' Robin (tweet! tweet!) beat Sherri in Paris in the Fall of 1988.

Betty Houle 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Did you pull that off the top of your head? Sadly, yes! (Since we're on the subject, the Sheri title change was in Houston, TX I believe)
Since I'm on a roll here: The Rockin' Robin win over Sherri Martel was broadcast as part of a special episode of PrimeTime Wrestling. They showed a bunch of matches from Paris with Heenan and Monsoon doing commentary. Heenan and Monsoon made a bet over the Women's Title match; Heenan ended up owing Monsoon dinner! Decent match, btw!

Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Did you pull that off the top of your head? Sadly, yes! (Since we're on the subject, the Sheri title change was in Houston, TX I believe) Yup, The Sam Houston Coliseum . . . Sherri was the face and Moolah was the heel. For whatever reason for the rematch in the same arena, Sherri came across as the pompous heel (even though she was still getting cheers) and Moolah was the "face" even though she acted the same as always and didn't get many cheers. Kinda came across like the Demo/POP switch at SurSer88.
Guest Boo_Bradley Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Guys just to let you know the "Brazil" story I repeated in my 1st post was proved to be false. KM.com had a historian pretending to be an old time wrestler, and they told a few lies before the truth came out....
Betty Houle 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Here's a paragraph of interest from the Observer's piece on Hennig after he died. It's on a related subject... “They paired Hall with Hennig as a team, since Hennig was going nowhere but they knew he was a good worker. The idea was Hennig would work almost the entire match and carry the team to good matches, and, in the process, make Hall a superstar. The two ended up being handed the tag team titles when Steve Regal (no relation to the British wrestler), who held the titles with Jimmy Garvin, quit the company to join the WWF. A fictitious match and result was announced for Albuquerque, NM, which at the time was a city where numerous bouts that never took place seemed to happen in.”

Guest Boo_Bradley Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Kayfabe Memories has REAL,actual wrestlers posting... one Member Smokey, had such an unbelievably accurate historical knowlegde, that KM posters thought he had to be WWWF Star James Dudley, among others, after a year or so of postings, a few lies, among the many truths were revealed, and it turned out a 26 year old Florida Woman was "Smokey" all along. Most of the stuff on KM is from people who watched it, or WERE there. Like the Albaqurque (Sp) title switch, which I'm almost positive was confirmed by a 30 year AWA fan/Employee(?) The Authority. Go ask Buddy Rose... he posts there all the time
Betty Houle 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 According to KM.com, the title switch was legit.... Apparently, it was legit. So says Meltzer (although I originally got the misinformation via his website).
