Guest justsoyouknow Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Interesting that you jump all over Coldplay and Evanesence, but you have no problem with The Used. The Used is far worse than Coldplay and Evanesence combined. The only thing Evanesence has going for them is that their lead singer is mad hot. ....but I mark out for the Ryan Adams/Johnny Cash love.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 The Used aren't really a big deal over here in the UK, so I can't really comment. Evanescence and Coldplay, on the other hand, are all over the place. With Coldplay, it's more a case of good first album, became twats.
Guest justsoyouknow Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 If you want to talk about twats, that would describe The Used perfectly. The lead singer dated Kelly Osbourne and used (no pun intended) her "fame" to launch the band into bigger and better things. But they still suck. Coldplay has the Oasis syndrome, seems to me.
Guest Steviekick Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 As far as a depressing song is concerned, go with Type O Negative's "Love you to death"
Guest LJSexay Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Coldplay - The Scientist, We Never Change, Spies Evanescence - My Immortal Staind - Excess Baggage [amazing song IMO], Outside Our Lady Peace - 4am, Bring Back the Sun [made me cry once] Beck - Lonesome Tears dude.... get every single one of these songs, and TELL ME if I didn't help you with good fitting music.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Elvis Costello - Lipstick Vogue Elvis Costello - I Want You Bright Eyes - A Perfect Sonnet Bright Eyes - It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends Pearl Jam - Black The Mr. T Experience - Even Hitler Had A Girlfriend Jesus Christ. That song by Bright Eyes "It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends" has just totally described my relationship with my best friend whom I once used to be in love with.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 That song is easily the saddest song ever. Hope it helps.
Guest Memphis Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 (edited) Depending on how deep you wish to go or what in particular is your taste will determine whether these songs strike a cord, but they're worth a listen. Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are - Meatloaf (my favourite) Last Day On Earth - Marilyn Manson - Go for the acoustic live version if you find the studio recording too 'heavy' Since I Don't Have You & Don't Cry - Guns N' Roses M Edited July 30, 2003 by Memphis
Guest Addy Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Mortiis - Everyone Leaves. Download a one minute sample here. Simply the most depressing thing EVER.
Guest shlidgn90 Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 listen to mahailia jackson's troubles of the world. that song is about real pain. or listen to some blues. that music is depressing too.

Guest Incandenza Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 (edited) Elvis Costello - Lipstick Vogue Elvis Costello - I Want You Bright Eyes - A Perfect Sonnet Bright Eyes - It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends Pearl Jam - Black The Mr. T Experience - Even Hitler Had A Girlfriend Jesus Christ. That song by Bright Eyes "It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends" has just totally described my relationship with my best friend whom I once used to be in love with. Bright Eyes depresses me, alright. And LPEMP mentioned "I Want You," which is far too creepy to be sad. Edited July 31, 2003 by Incandenza

Guest Flyboy Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 And LPEMP mentioned "I Want You," which is far too creepy to be sad. Why? Words can't describe how fucking depressing that song is.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 That, and Super Furry Animals' "Juxtaposed With U." It's dripping venom lyrically, but the accompanying music is smooth, 70s-style bedroom soul.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 And LPEMP mentioned "I Want You," which is far too creepy to be sad. Why? Words can't describe how fucking depressing that song is. Depressing, yes. Sad, no. Apples and oranges here, I guess. Either that, or potato/potatoe. Take your pick.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Pearl Jam - Footsteps Pearl Jam - I Got Shit
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Well, really, the other Elvis Costello song I suggested, Lipstick Vogue, is too angry to be really sad. Both songs just work well as downbeat songs.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 The Cure's "Disintegration", I think, is not only the saddest song ever, but the best song ever recorded. Get it. "Call Me a Dog" by Temple of the dog is another great sad song.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 The Used aren't really a big deal over here in the UK, so I can't really comment. Evanescence and Coldplay, on the other hand, are all over the place. With Coldplay, it's more a case of good first album, became twats. Oh yeah, that first album, man.... ::Vomits forth intestinal tract:: The thing is, we'll be rid of bands like Evanescence in a year or so (you'd hope) but Coldplay will inject us with their unique brand of non-music for years to come. They have the potential to become worse than U2. The thought sends a shiver through me.

However, the second album was so midle of the road it might as well been a white line... Oh, and "Juxtaposed With You" = Genius. Well done Inc.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 Also, while I'm looking at my avatar, the acoustic version of "This Is Yesterday" by the Manics. Back when they were good.
Guest Incandenza Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 "Papa Was a Rodeo," by the Magnetic Fields, is the saddest song about gay truckers ever written. I know that sounds flippant, but I really mean it.
