Rendclaw Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 Journey had their niche in the 80s, they just faded away, not flamed out... they're stil touring. It was set for GnR. I am a fan but that doesn't stop me from saying that Axl is a self-absorbed, megalomaniacal prick. They could have even skated by with average albums and they would have still had the world in their hands. Everything was there for them. The timing, the fan support, the album sales, everything. And Axl self-destructed, and the band went with him. That's why they;re trying to start another project with Weiland. They know they had something special, and Axl pissed it away. in that Zakk Wylde interview, one of the last things he said was that ever since he left Ozzy hes done a TON of stuff, and everyone is still waiting for that GnR album.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 GNR didn't flame out. They chose to leave. By definition "Flame out" means that your shit just won't get over anymore because your all burned out. Everyone keep burying them when the album isn't out yet...and I STILL haven't heard a better song than The Blues since....well...Coma
Guest cabbageboy Posted August 3, 2003 Report Posted August 3, 2003 I gotta say Stone Temple Pilots now that we bring Weiland into the thread. They had 3 good albums from 1992-96 and then after that just tanked. I guess #4 and their last CD did ok but they were both very forgettable.
Guest Vyce Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I wouldn't say that STP flamed out. They're still quite good, and are fantastic live, and still sell well. It's just that Weiland is in jail or rehab about 8 months out of the year (or so it seems), so they're limited in what they can get done.
Guest Phr33k Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I would agree with the Culture Club mention... if it hadn't been for the whole "Boy gets high and admits he's fucking the drummer" bit, they'd have lasted longer than they did. Although to be fair, they had a bit of a comeback in the UK with the Don't Mind If I Do album in '97.
Guest Adrian 3:16 Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 As much as it pains me to say it since they're my favorite group, Wu-Tang is in this category. From 93-97 they ruled hip-hop, but since then they put out some questionable music, got too complacent, and started infighting, and now they're basically a non-factor. Most of their former fans have now turned their back on them.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Where is Van Halen? Are they still doing the 2 singer tour deal? Dave: Just released new album, suing Edward and Alex for missing royalties. Sammy: Has fled the country as he is under investigation for the brutal murder of his career. Gary: New band, not sure what the name is. Edward: Going through divorce, recently recovered from cancer, claims he has recorded enough material for five albums Alex: ??? Mike: Smiling, nodding, haging with Sammy and the Wabos, or did Sammy kidnap him and drag him to Mexico?
B. Brian Brunzell Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 What about Terrance Trent D'Arby?
Guest Ripper Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 As much as it pains me to say. Lauryn Hill. She went from a multi MULTI platinum solo album, six Grammys to absolutley nothing. That was 5 years ago. Where is she now. Yeah, she did that unplugged earlier last year, but I don't even then she bought that shit when it came out.

What IS taking her so long to record the follow up? Does she just not want to sing anymore?
B. Brian Brunzell Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I remember watching Lauryn Hill's "Unplugged" and thinking "What happened?" It was just bad. She didn't sound good, and her playing was just...blah. I love Lauryn Hill and all, but she just disappeared.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Maybe it's me but it doesn't seem like most artist have a very long shelf life.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Gary: New band, not sure what the name is. Tribe of Judah
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 One question, where the Hell in Motley Crue?
Guest Zack Malibu Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 One question, where the Hell in Motley Crue? Tommy Lee was doing Methods of Mayhem, and then a solo album. Vince Neill was on the Surreal Life TV show.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Zack Attack only lasted 30 minutes with commercial breaks... and they lived through an entire career...
Guest Zero_Cool Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Just missed out on the Spin Doctors..damn. Two Princes is still one of my favorite songs of all time. I coulda sworn I had seen D'Arby on Kimmel a month or so ago...but maybe it was just a robot..he's gone. And fuck Oasis.

Vince Neill was on the Surreal Life TV show. Vince just got busted for assaulting a hooker(or maybe it was a stripper). Either way, he's a fat, drunk, useless hack of a vocalist. Mick Mars has some strange medical condition that causes his joints to lock up, which obviously affects his guitar playing. Nikki Sixx is cool, rich, and fucks Donna D'Errico. There's your Motley update.

I feel sorry for Mick, and Nikki has been cool to me since I was five.
Guest mesepher Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Blues Traveller? they're still around and still very popular, just not in the mainstream.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Fatboy Slim? What about "Buzz" bands...bands that weren't huge in the mainstream, but had critics drooling for their next album to come out, but when/if it did, it made little noise. My Bloody Valentine, Cornershop, etc?
