Guest PhantMan Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Serious question. don't worry about being seen as a mark. these days the more markish you get the more fun, anyway whta was you favorite issue? Mine would probably be the sting/hogan 1997 issue. you just sense London pb. was in bed with turner to make up a cover like that. the wm 8 one was fine, too. it had a nice photo article about hogan's career in it, thanking him for the years of entertainment (he "retired" at wm). if they only knew...
Guest Choken One Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I'll skim through the old ones I saved for Nostalgia purposes... I brought one for fun for a Road Trip recently for the hell of it...
Guest bort Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 i bought them up until like 2 years ago before i got the net, they were getting way to expensive for me to buy. i may still buy the PWI 500 issues though
cawthon777 Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I buy old issues off eBay, mostly for research purposes. There's not a big market so my chances of turning around and selling them to make some money back aren't too high.
Guest gregb7677 Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 haven't thought of reading those in years. probably would like to get a hold of the almanacs they put out though.
Guest JHawk Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I buy PWI once in a while just for the Arena Reports section, but always the 500 and the Year in Review. The others aren't that special anymore.
Guest papacita Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I think the last time I bought an Apter mag was late 99 or early 2000. I used to get them mainly for the arena reports and the monthly rankings, but once I got onto the net, there really wasn't much use for them.
Guest Sturgis Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I by them when I see them basically. PWI 500, Year In Review, Supercards, and Almanac are MUST HAVE though. They are humorous sometimes nowadays they've become a kayfabed smart-mark magazine now.
Guest The Old Me Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 The last one I bought was at an airport, and they were out of Maxim.
Slingshot Suplex Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 I still buy the occasional one I have a huge collection of them from 1985 through last year.
Youth N Asia Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 I still buy the PWI 500, and bitch about how they treat the indy guys. But after WOW shut down I just stopped getting wrestling mags all together
The Kid Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 I still sometimes buy them, just something to read on road trips and on the can.
Guest T®ITEC Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Aren't they around $10 now? Anyway, I haven't purchased one since 2000. Sadly. I used to read everything in them, though. I *loved* them, and (since I was a freakin' mark), believed most of it. The articles were pretty well written, after all. I still like the way they kept kayfabe so nicely. I still have some in a box around here. What I really liked were the posters, 'cause there would always be an entire career synopsis on one side. It was fun to become an amateur expert on guys like Goldust, back in the day. Hm... Maybe I'll go read through them again.
Guest Ray Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 I haven't bought one (not counting the almanac) in a loooong time. The amount of kayfabe is rediculous.
Guest PhantMan Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 I actually respected them mags for little things like acknowledging Goldust was dustin or calling 123 kid just THE KID. trying to cater more to the smarks ruined them, but did they have another choice?
