It was close between Monsoon/Heenan or Monsoon/Ventura but I went with Moonsoon and Heenan.

Solie's most regular broadcast partner was Bob Caudle, who then helped to break Schiavone and JR into commentating. Technically, they were the best ever, no doubt about it.

My personal favorite will always be Gorilla and Bobby as they had such great chemistry with each other and were so entertaining to watch. All around, Gorilla and Jesse were the best as they mixed humor and wit with solid analysis and the fundamentals of what a good commentating team does in putting over wrestlers and matches.

Gorilla and the Brain, which will win hands down. My next favorite was probably JR/Heyman.

Monsoon and Heenan were good for what they did in the studio, but play by play was just ok, IMO.

I loved Ross/Ventura from WCW in the early 90's. Ross was at or near the top of his game and Ventura went along great.

I am also a huge fan of David Crockett and Tony Schiavone from the old NWA Saturday night show in the 80's.

Bas Rutten and Stephen Quadros.

But for wrestling-only, I'd say Monsoon/Ventura. WM 5 is made watchable because of their announcing.

For pure commentating I would have to go with Solie/Ross as they were the 2 best ever and worked great together.

My favorite by far though is Ross/Ventura. Ventura was the perfect counterpart to Ross's serious commentating and he also has such a great speaking voice making everything he says seem important. I always loved the way Ventura would just seem to say whatever he wanted breaking kayfabe on many an occassoion.

I find Solie's voice to be very pleasant, so I picked him.

2nd would be Ross/Ventura, due to their chemistry.

Monsoon/Ventura over Monsoon/Heenan by the barest of fractions.

Ross and Ventura weres great as well... I remember the Tag Title Tournament commentary like it was yesterday....

*Gordy gives his opponent a NASTY back suplex*

Jesse: Whoa. Right on the back of the neck. I think he knocked him out.

JR: He folded up like an accordion with that suplex! And its not gonna get any better, cause Dr. Death has been tagged in!!

Gold.

gordon solie (georgia championship wrestling) is the best i've ever heard. his stuff with piper and muraco was awesome.

other great combos

ross/tony schavonnie: i love listening to their call on the war games.

joey styles (pre- barely legal): he was so annoyingly great.

dave brown/lace russell: they are a close number two on my list. not only did they get the wrestlers over well. you could tell they were having as much fun as the fans were.

Gorilla and Jesse. The fact that they were the lead announcers on PPV through to 1990 shows how great they were.

The other combinations of Vince/Gorilla and Jesse/Heenan, as well as Solie/Caudle, round out the top 5.
