AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 I was wondering if I could have your opinion on these bands. I don't always agree with your opinion but I and others still find them to be an interesting read. You can split them up into different parts and do them on different days if you want to. Or you can just ignore this post, whatever. AC/DC Aerosmith Alice Cooper Anthrax Black Sabbath Blue Oyster Cult Danzig Deep Purple Def Leppard Diamond Head Dio Guns N' Roses Iron Maiden Judas Priest Kiss Led Zeppelin Megadeth Mercyful Fate Metallica Motörhead Ozzy Osbourne Pantera Rainbow Saxon Scorpions Slayer Thin Lizzy UFO Van Halen It will be like AoO's guide to rock, or something. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 These are the bands on this list that I care about: AC/DC Alice Cooper Anthrax Black Sabbath Danzig Deep Purple Guns N' Roses Iron Maiden Judas Priest Kiss Led Zeppelin Megadeth Metallica Motörhead Ozzy Osbourne Pantera Scorpions Slayer Van Halen It was because of bands like those that I was able to start to get into more underground metal. Out of all those, the only ones that I regularly listen to now are Kiss, Motörhead, and Danzig. Of course, it should be noted that I mark for them.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 8, 2003 Well..here's the short form, since you asked all nice and everything.. AC/DC-Catchy for a while, get old fast. Very samey. Aerosmith-Very good rock band when they're high. They went to shit when they sobered up. Alice Cooper-Had a brilliant formula that made him a lot of money. Anthrax-A mixed bag for me. I definitely enjoy them as I do most thrashy stuff, but not a favorite. Black Sabbath-The best band ever. Completely untouchable in their first 10 years of existence. Blue Oyster Cult-Totally mediocre. Danzig-The first and third albums are good shit. Catchy riffs abound, and he's a solid vocalist. I can't tolerate the Misfits without him. Deep Purple-Ritchie Blackmore was lightyears ahead of his time. Although for every awesome song they wrote, they wrote an iffy one. Def Leppard-Worst band of the 80's. Utter vomit. Diamond Head-Never heard. Does it involve King diamond? If so..change my vote to "Sucks Donkeys" Dio-Brutally cheesy and bad, but in an amusing way. Guns N' Roses-Made one good album, then totally fell apart. Annoying ballads. Iron Maiden-Talented band I don't like at all. Judas Priest-Not as good as Maiden, and I don't like them either. Kiss-Sucks. Led Zeppelin-I love 'em when they're bluesy, and have no opinion of them when they get all fantasy oriented. Megadeth-Dave Mustaine rules it. Does "metallica" better than Metallica. Mercyful Fate-King Diamond is one of my most loathed musicians ever. Metallica-Seriously? Motörhead-Love 'em. Gritty energy, catchiness, talent. Ozzy Osbourne-A shadow of himself compared to Sabbath. Smart enough and Lucky enough to keep surrounding himself with good musicians. The first couple solo albums were excellent, then he started going downhill. Pantera-Fantastic live band with a lot of good material, and only one truly horrific and bad album that I've heard. (I'm largely unfamiliar with the early cheese shit) Rainbow-Dio AND Blackmore..who to choose..I'll call it even and say they're ok. Saxon-Don't know 'em Scorpions-Not as bad as Def Leppard, but close. Slayer-Pinnacle of thrash, paragons of longevity and ass-kicking. Best metal band not named Black Sabbath. Thin Lizzy-Don't care about them at all. UFO-Also indifferent. Some good riffs. Van Halen-Love 'em with DLR, don't like them at all without.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2003 Diamond Head-Never heard. Does it involve King diamond? If so..change my vote to "Sucks Donkeys" Diamond Head was a part of the NWOBHM. They wrote several songs that Metallica covered over the years, including "The Prince" and "Am I Evil?" They were a pretty good band. Nothing special, but good. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2003 Diamond Head sang Am I Evil? Why the hell am I thinking Mercyful Fate... and Saxon is another NWOBHM
