Guest goar Report post Posted August 12, 2003 There's a lot of talk in another thread about how realistic it is or isn't for a 54 year old washed up legend to be getting offense on a main eventer like Goldberg. Even before reading this debate I was wondering what was Flair's last great match. His current run hasn't really produced anything beyond enjoyable. Are we going to have to go back to the 90's and Vader or has he pulled something else out that I'm forgetting?
Myxamatosis 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 Flair vs. Guererro was decent. Other than that, his WWE/F run is only highlighted by Flair vs. Taker, Vince, Austin and HHH.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 The most recent match that I would consider is Bret/Flair from Souled Out 98. It wasn't fantastic, but it was very good. Since then, Flair has really been showing his age.
Myxamatosis 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 If you hold Flair up to the standards of say an Angle or Benoit and not soley based on reputation, well I gotta say that you'd have to go back to 93 with Flair-Perfect. Everything else just hasn't had the feel of something that blew you away with great wrestling.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 Flair's last watchable match was probably against HHH from a few months ago on Raw for the World Title. That's probably Flair's MOTY. Edit: But if you are looking for Flair's last great classic...then I'm not sure. I mean, McMahon/Flair & Taker/Flair were good garbage matches, but it's nothing we haven't seen before. He really hasn't done much as far as wrestling goes since he came back in late 2001.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 His last truly great match was the two match series with Steamboat in 1994 (I think Flair even admitted this once, saying that he hadn't had a good match in three years or however long it had been because that was the last time he worked with Steamboat)
Guest JMA Report post Posted August 12, 2003 I second Hart/Flair from Souled Out 98. No heel/face crap, just a great match.
Guest Mad the Swine Report post Posted August 13, 2003 Flair's last shoulder surgery in 2000 pretty much ended his chances of having any more great matches (for the record, he's seriously torn both rotator cuffs). He hasn't been using much variety, especially when it comes to suplexes or anything else requiring much power. The other problem is that when he still was capable of having very good to great matches, he wasn't getting the time or the opponents to do it. For the last great match, it probably would be Steamboat from April 1994. Or - depending on your standards - Arn Anderson from September 1995. I had forgotten how good the latter was until I popped in the VCR this weekend. Very good would either be Trips from this year or his short series with Bret Hart in early 1998. Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted August 13, 2003 Yes I agree, the last great match was against Arn at Fall Brawl
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2003 My favorite match of Flair's was against Savage at WM VIII.
Guest RollingSambos Report post Posted August 13, 2003 Last "great" match? I gotta go with his match with Savage at WrestleMania VIII or his match with Vader at Starrcade '93. After that, he just became a tired parody of himself in the ring. Yes, his match with Bret at Souled Out was pretty good, but he was just going through the motions...doing the typical Flair formula to a T. He hasn't mixed up his routine in 10 years. I really enjoyed his match with Taker at WrestleMania X8, but that was a garbage match and Taker actually carried HIM.

I never heard about that, but it explains why he has been landing on one side for most of his bumps. It always looks so... painful..

Flair's been bumping that way for most of his career (since his plane crash which I think was in 1975) OK.
