Ozzfest 2003

Recommended Posts

I'm going to ozzfest this thursday, and was wondering if anyone has been at all this year? Who's the show stealer? (at least on the side stage). How's ozzy's performance, still up to par? Who has been the suprise act of the tour?

Any reviews would be appreciated, thanks

A Masshole, eh?

Get there EARLY, man, as everybody I know that's been to OzzFest said Shadows Fall went on early, around 9:30. If you see them, prepare to be amazed at how much they rule.

Everybody I've talked to said Cradle Of Filth stole the show for both stages. I won't doubt that, as I heard CoF is awesome live.

That said, fuck OzzFest. :D

The only reasons that I would want to go to Ozzfest would be to see Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage. Both of them will rock your world in that cool way. Plus, both are on the second stage, so propably their merch will be cheaper. CoF is just pop black metal to me because it is so over the top, but I can see how they could be entertaining because they are so bizarre.

/me prefers old school metal.

Don't really dig the bands that play Ozzfest. Plus I'm not interested in seeing a pathetic, shuffling Ozzy on stage pissing himself.

ya shadows fall is coming on at 1135, we're gettin there for 1115 so we wont miss them.

I'm assuming that's in the morning. It kinda sucks but it's ok. The first time I ever saw Killswitch Engage was a little after noon and they became one of my favorites, so you too can have an early morning musical experience.

Overall a great show.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the bands on the second stage like most of the posters here but I always like listening to bands I havent heard of to see if I will like any of them. Some were good, Some were bad.

Hung out at the tent where Zakk Wydle was signing autographs, that guy kicks so much ass. Tried shaking hands with him, but too much security.

As for the main stage, Chevelle sucked like always. Disturbed was awesome like always. Manson was interesting, Im not a big fan of his music but his live show was sweet. Korn was probably the best of the night, first time seein them and before ozzfest, I wasnt really much of a korn fan, but after seeing them live, I want to get all their CDs, they were pretty darn good.

As for Ozzy, I believe this should be his last year as he only played an hour and 15 minutes, short set compared to last years but still decent. Zakk's 15 minute guitar solo was awesome with the complete national anthem to conclude it.

Overall, Much better show than last years, but not the best concert Ive been too.

My friend Emily went. Saw Shadows Fall. Loved them. ANOTHER CONVERT, FRIENDS!

And Steviekick, I'm suing you for gimmick infringement. Shadows Fall reccomending and pimping is MY deal. That's, like, an unwritten rule at TSM.

As well as the songs Stevie rec'd, I'll add some more:

"The Art Of Balance"

"A Fire In Babylon"

"Casting Shade" (like NOTHING you'd expect from the band)

"Somber Angel"

"Purity"

"Revel In My Loss"

"Serenity"

"Welcome To The Machine" (yes, a Pink Floyd cover, metal'd up, but yet still sounding just as good, if not better, than the original)

Ozzy doesn't really play much during the Ozzfest tours, but when you see him outside the Fest its a different story, around 2 hours of Ozzy.

...when you should know that The Art Of Balance is their third LP? :D

I know, I just really don't ever think about Somber Eyes To The Sky anymore. I like Brian's vocals over Phillip's. I consider it to be Shad's forgotten album, kinda like KiSS' Carnival of Souls...it exists outside of the band's regular continuity. Kind of like someone not wanting to admit that their first break in show business was as the kid with the stomach ache in the opening joke of an episode of "Boy Meets World" in its third season.

I like Somber a lot, but it did not have a lot of relistenability to it. To me it's just a good album by a small band. They did not impress me yet. Deep down, I guess I just don't count Shadows Fall of being a worthy band until Of One Blood. I fell in love with their first real label release. I guess I'm a bad fan.

The same goes for KsE...I have their first selftitled album, but it just kind of sat there for a while. I heard Alive or Just Breathing and was amazed by it. It caused me to go back to the first one, listen to it, and say "damn...they've gotten really good now."

Well, I can actually agree with you on the reasons for not really counting Somber. Besides, all but two of the tracks that were really good (leaving "Purity" and "Lead Me Home" for some reason) were on Of One Blood anyways ("Revel In My Loss" and "To Ashes" being the ones that immediately jump to mind, with also "Fleshold" and, I think, "Montauk" on Somber as well).

Brian's clean vocals are incredibly better than Mr. LaBonte's were. But Phillip owns Mr. Fair when it comes to growls/screams. Which is somewhat sad, since most of The Art Of Balance is Brian screaming (with only "Welcome To The Machine" and "The Art Of Balance" having him not scream).

Guest Agent of Oblivion
"Welcome To The Machine" (yes, a Pink Floyd cover, metal'd up, but yet still sounding just as good, if not better, than the original)

Oh come ON, it doesn't even touch the original. It completely and utterly loses that contrast between the acoustic and electronic elements in the song and replaces them with boring guitar chugs. The mid-tempo beat naturally accompanies this, and the desperation and tension isn't there in the vocals.

While I think the band is decent, and agree that they are in fact going to be huge, that track is nothing compared to the Floyd version.

On Pink Floyd covers, I like Kittie's cover of "Run Like Hell"

Regarding Ozzfest. Get there EARLY. I arrived the same time I did in 2000, yet in 2000 it got me front of the line space and this time at the same time, I was in the back of the line around the block.

Killswitch Engage opened up.

I am not sure how the lineup works cause the Program we got had Killswitch, Shadows Fall, VoVoid, Nothing Face, Cradle of Filth as the final Stage 2 acts, yet all of them were the FIRST BANDS to perform SANZ Cradle of Filth(who headlined)

To me, CoF stole the show. They was an incredible amount of people that obviously only came to ozzfest to see CoF. They put on an Excellent stage show which I thought was the best of the night, followed by Manson's stage show. Makes we want to see CoF when they headline, although they probably couldn't fit all that theatrics stuff into a club venue.

WAAF was talking about how utterly bad Ozzy was, talking about how he should seriously retire before he really makes a fool out of himself.

Then I thought to myself..."The Osbournes"

Too Late...
