Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Kurt Angle has huge fan support... doesn't make him a draw. Jeff Hardy had a lot of fans... did that make him a draw. The same goes for others aswell, Jericho, Booker T... SPANKY. If The Rock, Austin and Foley can't draw at the moment then RVD sure as hell can't. Like i said if given the chance to become a draw or in other words if RVD is being booked properly just like Kane is now then i would guarantee you that he would make money for WWE. Rock,Austin and Foley are not draws anymore because they already had a chance to shine in the spotlight, out with the old and in with the new. And please don't put Jeff Hardy on this list because ugly fat chicks were his only fans and the WWE had plans for him to draw but he threw his chances away for weed. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 RVD can't draw money now...no one will question that. The thing of it is they blew their window to create a new main eventer that was fresh, over, and on fire at the end of 2001. Opportunities like that hardly EVER come along. And they passed. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 RVD's push died that night at Unforgiven last year...
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Here's proof that people are still paying to watch RVD: RVD comes out to a nice OVATION. The match itself was pretty slow. RVD got his usual spots in. I honestly do not have high hopes for this match at SummerSlam as the crowd did not appear to be into it. Some chanted RVD, but that was about it. RVD tried to get out of the cage a couple times, but to no avail. Kane wins the match via chokeslam. Post match: RVD slaps hands and plays to the crowd. Most Heat: Y2J Bischoff Orton Loudest Pops RVD Dudley Boys Overall, Good show. I had a good time. Credit:wrestling observer.com The fans wanted to see RVD win , but as always Vince lets down the fans, if RVD was booked like a Brock Lesnar, he would be drawing big buyrates and ratings. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 There actually was an attempted murder on January 7th of last year when without explanation he went from feuding with Jericho over the Undisputed title to curtain jercking against Test...then last 2 minutes in the Rumble...then wen't directionless for 2 months.... But it took all the way until that match at Unforgiven last year to finally kill his heat.
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 You can't prove anybody could be a draw. People have shit on stuff that should have gotten over with ease while supposrting guys(Goldberg, RVD, Ultimate Warrior) that shouldn't have gotten over to the degree that they did. Heyman said once "What works works," and Meltzer said if you don't push somebody when the fans want them the won't get behind it to the same degree.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 That's the Brock vs. RVD theory. RVD super over...not pushed. Brock not over...Super Push. Took Brock a while to get over. He won the title at SummerSlam and that day he got h eat for the first time. Wrong kind of heat...but at least they reacted.

Actually there was an explanation. On January 3rd- BEFORE Triple H came back- Rock became #1 contender for the title and the Y2J v. RVD feud was over. Stop trying to act like his feud ended and he was curtain jerking because of some Triple H conspiracy- because there ISN'T one.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Did I say there was? I seem to recall...and you quoted this so maybe you can help me...citing the date that he began curtain jerking.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I gave a summary of the RVD v. Jericho feud. It wasn't really much to begin with. I think they made the right move in switching to Rock v. Jericho- but they dropped the ball with RVD in the Rumble
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Well...we couldn't have him upstaging anyone since the decision was made to bury him. Remember the RAW the night after the Rumble? He was jerking the curtain in a six man and blew the roof off the place. Later in the show HHH came out to confront Jericho and talk about how it was them at Mania if Jericho could hold onto the belt... and the crowd didn't care. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 When the WWE is getting 2000/3000 fans at house shows, NO ONE is drawing! And that includes KANE-related house shows.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 The truly goofy aspect of this Kane/RVD feud to me is that it actually COULD draw money if it was booked with any level of competency. Let's face it, one of the sure fire angles that always gets over is a tag team splitting and feuding. Especially guys who are over as singles wrestlers in their own right. You have one guy who is a homicidal maniac, the other is a chilled out stoner. After said maniac tries to kill the lead announcer and does other acts of heinosity, stoner finally realizes that he's got to turn vicious for the first time or else he's dead meat. Instead we get all this extraneous crap with Shane, Linda, Bischoff.....I mean, have they forgotten that this is basically a "tag team breakup" feud?
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted August 18, 2003 RVD can't draw money now...no one will question that. The thing of it is they blew their window to create a new main eventer that was fresh, over, and on fire at the end of 2001. Opportunities like that hardly EVER come along. And they passed. Au contraire, they've had a bunch of those opportunities in the last few years. 1. Jericho was more over when he first came in than RVD was when he first showed up. 2. They've had multiple chances to try and cement Angle as top guy and blown it, most noticeably during the HHH-Steph triangle. 3. Benoit, when he first came in and was feuding with The Rock, amazingly enough he was getting enough of a reaction to be pushed to the top tier even with Shane doing his talking. 4. RVD, of course. 5. Booker. Just before this WrestleMania they had another, perhaps final, chance. And Vince blew that too. Suckaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! So they've had their chances, now they're rapidly running out of warm bodies and they'll never get opportunities like they had with Jericho and RVD again because the attendance is dwindling and the buy rates are starting to get really funny and there's just not enough people watching any more. Other than that, Vince has no worries.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I'll give you everyone but Booker. Other than catchphrase, spinaroonie and enterance I never heard crowd heat for his actual matches. But yes, they've blown alot.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I'll admit Booker is iffy, but I think with him it's because you're starting to see the effects of less people in the arenas to give him a big reaction and precious few people left in the company for him to get a reaction against. When Triple-Heatsink is your last chance at getting over for good, well, you're beyond screwed.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 But you see, he wasn't pushed as equal When they did Angle/Lesnar/Gowen vs. Show/TWGTT, and Gowen wasn't portrayed from the beginning as an obvious handicap for the faces, I took it to mean he was their equal. I don't know whever you just proved my point by implying he HAS to be a handicap, or not. I'll take it as not as you probably mean Gowen the midcarder not Gowen the one legged kid. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Some of those people they've blown more than once. Let me ask you this... What's Benoit been up to on PPV since that standing O at the Rumble? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA The lesson is: Don't get over.
