SummerSlam 2003

Recommended Posts

Guest JericholicEdgeHead

I know there are several threads on different SummerSlam matches but I thought I would do one as a preview to the what is supposed to be on of the 4 biggest PPV's of the year, and the line-up to me seems to be one of the worst SummerSlam's ever.

The current card for Summerslam:

- Elimination Chamber for the World Title: Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Nash vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Bill Goldberg. ---WOW unless Jericho and Michaels does some great stuff together this looks like one big train wreck.

- Kane vs. Rob Van Dam.-----Kane will win in a glorified squash with a probable Shane run-in

- Eric Bischoff vs. Shane McMahon.---Why is this match on a PPV again??? So over half of both rosters don't get on this PPV but TWO non-wrestlers do??

Smackdown:

- WWE Champion Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar.----- The only match I am looking forward to. But I'm sure Vince will make sure he gets involved.

- U.S. Champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit vs. Rhyno vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri. ------ Should be good, but 4-way matches can become a trainwreck in a hurry, but seeing who is involved it should be one of the best matches on the show.

- Undertaker vs. A-Train.-----Yuck

- Matt Hardy vs. Zach Gowen.-----I'm happy Matt gets on a PPV but I am getting tired of Zach Gowen pretty quick. If Zach goes over here then WWE has more problems than I thought.

Let's just hope they don't add Stephanie vs. Sable II or a Test vs. Steiner match.

And is the I-C, Cruiserweight or either tag-titles going to be defended?? Only a week left and the build-up for this lackluster show has been horrible. For me this has to be one of the worst SummerSlams in history. I'm not even sure if I will order this one.

Well its looking like the Filthy Animals will go for third time lucky on the SD side, The Dudleys will beat the Frenchies on the RAW side, and Christian might get a match with someone like Hurricane (hopefully).

They should throw the Dudleys/French guys match on Heat.

Chrisitan will just have to be S.O.L. since Booker's injury forced a quick change.

There is no way Shelton Benjamin and that guy he carries in the team should miss SummerSlam. (Yes I know his name)

Heh Elimination match

Just 2003's answer to the chamber of Horrors...Maybe Abby will do a Waddle in and electricute himself ..

If Kane doesn't go over then the push makes no sense...if Rob goes over...with Shane's help then that only pushes a Shane vs Kane match at the next Raw PPV

Bischy vs McMahon...Old WCW vs new WCW..or well Newer older WCW....

Kurt vs Brock best match on the card

The 4way second best match

Taker vs A Train.... expect a Taker squashing of Big and Harry.

Gowen will get a Fluke win...

There will be Steph vs Sable II and it will be for the gen manager job

the Raw Steiner Test match im beating Stacy gonna go heel and turn on Steiner....Which case Steiner and test go at it again at the PPV and he Steiner recylines Stacy

I'm thinking it looks pretty good, in my oddly different than everybody else here way. I mean, c'mon, RVD/Kane will get some good time....Brock and Angle.....Tajiri and Eddy and Benoit and Rhyno...and the Chamber? Hell, i was intrigued by HIAC with Nash and Trips...I'm definetley intruiged by this, hell, anyone who's not has lost their inner mark. I expect some cool spots from Zach, Train and Taker going above my low expectations (in the same low kind of way Test/Taker did last year), and a cool Shane spot. And then a women's match, a decent World Tag Match....and hopefully something IC...Cruiserweight...or WWE Tag....throw in a turmoil or something, hell.

Don't expect Matt Hardy vs. Gowen at SSlam because it ain't gonna happen.

This is the REAL SUMMERSLAM CARD:

Elimination Chamber for World Heavyweight Title

Brock vs. Angle for WWE Title

RVD vs. Kane

Shane vs. Bischoff with Stone Cold as ref

Dudleys vs. La Resistance for Tag Titles in a FLAG MATCH

Undertaker vs. A-Train

Kidman & Rey vs. TWGTT for tag titles in a 2/3 falls match

Eddy vs. Benoit vs. Rhyno vs. Tajiri in a 4-way for U.S. Title

Christian vs. Goldust for the I.C. Title

Shane Vs. Bischoff - This shouldn't even be on the card, fuck you WWE!

Matt Hardy vs. Zach Gowen - Matt better go over.

*wouldn't mind seeing Christian Vs. Hurricane for the IC title

While most of the matches will probably be utter crap. There's still the potential for 3 **** matches on that card. And if Kane/RVD and the Elimination Chamber can just manage to stay in the watchable to average range you could be looking at a very solid PPV.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kane/RVD was good. RVD had some really entertaining matches with UT months and months ago, and Kane is basically a younger, more mobile version of UT.

Haven't we really had great SummerSlam's since 1996?

'97 wasn't THAT crash hot, but Owen/Austin & Hitman/Taker was the shit for me, I loved every second.

It's saddening that for SEVEN years they have put on a decent show and now they're gonna piss it all away with *THAT* sorry excuse for a wrestling card.

However, they might suprise us just yet and get God to perform a modern day miracle, other than that - get out your disappointed faces because you're going to need them.

Let's see:

Survivor Series: The majority of the time it's sucked in the past few years, up until last year. WWE's also done away with the traditional 8-man elimination Survivor Series matches too since 1998, when the WWE title tournament was held.

Royal Rumble: Started out good in 2000, but declined every year, and this year's was no doubt the worst Royal Rumble PPV I've seen in a while, except for Benoit vs. Angle.

Wrestlemania: Hit-or-miss every year, you would think it would do a lot better considering it's the biggest show of the year, but of course, the McMahons know how to fuck up a good thing.

King of the Ring: It's dead now, but I can't really remember a GOOD King of the Ring at all(shit like Rikishi and Val Venis advancing while Benoit and Guerrero get eliminated early in 2000, Mabel becoming the 1995 King of the Ring, etc.), except maybe for a few matches.

Will Summerslam join the list of the deteriorated "Big 5"(should be Big 4 because KOTR doesn't exist anymore for now)? Possibly.

- Elimination Chamber for the World Title: Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Nash vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Bill Goldberg.

Wasn't good last time, and the wrestlers involved are much worse this time around. Not good.

- Kane vs. Rob Van Dam.

Ewwwww, this is gonna suck.

Eric Bischoff vs. Shane McMahon.

We have already seen it once, and it sucked that time. Pointless.

Smackdown:

WWE Champion Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar

OK

U.S. Champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit vs. Rhyno vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri.

OK

Undertaker vs. A-Train

Bad. Could be real bad. May pleasently surprise if they both have their working boots on. I thought Taker put Cena over, so why is it Taker which gets the PPV match?

Matt Hardy vs. Zach Gowen

Seen one Gowan match you've seen em all.

Yeah....that card looks stinky.

I don't know, UT has decided to work again and he could have a good match with Train.

The card leaves a good deal to be desired - it just comes off as flat and uninspired.

The "top" two matches from each brand are the only set that I want to see so far. So, unless Shane bumps his ass off (with no apparent reasoning, for ERIC BISCHOFF), while Taker and A-Train have their working boots on, I'd pass on ordering/watching this event. NOW, if they add any more title matches, the show would get a much-needed boost

WORLD: La Resistance© v. Dudleys

WOMEN: Molly© v. Trish v. Victoria v. Gail Kim

WWE: Haas & Benjamin© v. Rey/Kidman, 2/3 falls.

EDIT: Also thought of a "Women's Gauntlet" match, but Molly would have to be a babyface (or have Trish win the title early), to make it work with the crowd.

Regardless of whatever they give us as a card, it might just be fantastic. The guys usually do try to work harder on the big shows, and after this past SD PPV, I wont be suprised is SS is awesome as well.

WWE: Haas & Benjamin© v. Rey/Kidman, 2/3 falls.

thats what im hoping for, even if they just add these 4 in a tag match it would rock...it would make 3 sure good matches, and i like A-trains work for a big guy, and UT can work decently good too so i expect this to be ok

Pffft negativity schmegativity. This card looks really good to me.

Chamber was fun last year, a good entertaining match. Can't argue with that.

Kane-RVD will be fun too. It's been built way too long not to be.

EZE-Shane- WHY?

Angle-Lesnar- MOTN

4 Way- MOTN #2

Taker/A-Train- I'm enjoying the A-Train push for some reason, this will be a watchable big man match.

Hardy-Gowen- I mark for both, should be a fun match.

I <3 this card.

- Elimination Chamber for the World Title: Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Nash vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Bill Goldberg.

Obviously going to be a "trainwreck" in terms of having a cohesive, psychology-filled, workrate through the roof wrestling match, but I think it could be quite entertaining, and am genuinely excited to see the outcome.

- Kane vs. Rob Van Dam.

I don't see why this is going to be "awful" (except for the camera work on the Tombstone at the end, can you at least make it LOOK like RVD's head hits the mat? Jesus,) but I'm kind of excited for it. I hope Shane takes some sort of sick bump during his run-in if it takes place, and I think Kame comes out on top.

- Eric Bischoff vs. Shane McMahon

Will probably be awful because of Bischoff being in it, but who knows, Shane could do some entertaining crazy shit to make it interesting. If Austin is the ref, that will provide for some classic comedy moments, guaranteed. I say Shane comes out on top depending on where this match is on the card. If it's above RVD/Kane (don't put it past them, he IS a McMahon, after all) then Shane loses with a Kane run-in. If not, Shane wins with Austin's help.

Smackdown:

- WWE Champion Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar.

Yes, Vince will get involved. Yes, Vince also got involved in Rock/Austin WMX7, correct? Just checking. Lesnar comes out on top.

- U.S. Champion Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit vs. Rhyno vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri.

Benoit catches Eddie in a crossface and he taps out and loses the belt. Expecting a pretty good match, but nothing amazing.

- Undertaker vs. A-Train.

Still hate the Undertaker after beating Cena at Vengeance, but it was Vince's fault, not his. Vince loves A-Train too, it seems, so I'm expecting an A-Train win after some botched Stephanie interference. Unless there's a Steph / Sable match, then she won't interfere, and in that case, Taker wins.

- Matt Hardy vs. Zach Gowen.

More Hardy is a good thing, and I'm actually getting MORE into Gowen now than I was at first. He's slowly winning me over as a legit wrestler. But I think Matt wins, and it sets up a speech that will convince Zach to become a MFer. And Hardy hasn't been on the mic in ages it seems, so we need more of that with a new MFer.

- Dudleyz vs. La Resistance.

A title change would be good because the belts seem worthless around La Res, but the Dudleyz aren't a big improvement. Hopefully La Res wins, and get upset by Jindrak/Cade on a RAW episode, and then hopefully La Res are fired. Or at least a complete character change is in order.

And what about Cena and the Smackdown Tag Titles? PLEASE get them on the card in some fashion. Even if it's just another Rey/Kidman vs. TWGTT match, I'm definitely up for that. Cena not being on this card is a crime, however.

^ You're crazy. It will suck(with the exception of two matches).

Wow! You're intelligent!

As for this being the Summerslam to piss things away....yeah, no. Break everything down and that is COMPLETLEY wrong.

Orton can handle his own in the match, and if Flair gets involved some how, I think it can be entertaining.

The obvious deadweights in this match are Nash and Goldberg

I hope La Resistance continue to hold the belts. They should put over a new, young, babyface tag-team like Jindrak and Cade.

I quite like Las Resistance anyway, even if I am the only one.
