Sports Heels

Going back to the Nascar wrestling comparisions, how about Ryan Newman as Chris Benoit.

Neither is really flashy, both can hang with the top guys, and both can be seen as viable championship contenders.

And I have to agree about Busch.  Even my grandma said she wanted to punch him.

Not quite...

Newman is young so he is more of a Paul London or Spanky if you will...

For a Benoit comparison...Bobby Labonte is the appros one...

Always *RIGHT* there...gets a fluke forgotten title run but dropped down the card for others...

How about this one.

Kyle Petty=Kevin Nash.

They both have long hair (obvious), both made a name for themselves being the cool rebel. Both have held down talented drivers (John Andretti in Petty's case) and both should obviously retire as they are nowhere near their former glory, and both don't seem to put in the effort to be a championship contender.

Damn...Pretty good one man.

Who would you compare Mysterio to be?

Nascar doesn't have short latinos...

Man I write a comparably long post about the inherent heel-ness of the Devils and it gets no-sold for NASCAR.

I think motorsports is the biggest heel in the grand scheme of things...they're bumping hockey out of the equation as the Fourth Sport.

I can't add anything very eloquent besides I DO hate the Devils.

Does Mark Martin count as a Bob Backlund type too, in how much he sugar-coated how mad he was at Sauter on Saturday night?

Despite Hockey being a better sport to watch and play than Baseball, and NFL Football.

Kinda like the Hart Foundation of '97, a lot of sports heel-face alignments shift with geography.

Terrell Owens certainly isn't a heel around here, that's for sure. Sort of the cocky face, like Shawn Michaels. Elsewhere, probably. I imagine it was much the same way with Michael Irvin. I know damn sure I hated the bastard while he was playing, I'm sure Cowboy fans felt quite different.

And I sure don't consider Barry Bonds a heel. If anything, he's more analogous to Steve Austin, a megaover superface who just so overwhelms people so consistently and repeatedly that I figure a lot of people are getting tired of watching it (though, as a Giants fan, I'm not). Kick Wham Homerun, anybody? And come on, the harsh attitude towards interviewers, come on, that doesn't smack of every "tough guy" face going today?

Warren Sapp reminds me of Ahmed Johnson: Mostly cheered as a face by the fans (WHY????), but is reckless and hurts "the boys" while in action.

Art Modell's a heel.

Al Davis, too.

Romanowski. You try to say "yeah, he's an s.o.b. but he's OUR s.o.b." when these guys are on your team, but taking a guy out is just...ugh. You know, back in the day he used to take shots at Jerry Rice in practice too (49ers, late 80's - early 90's) but I never heard about that until recently. Guy plain pisses me off.

I'd nominate Wayne Huizenga, too, for dismantling the Marlins as soon as they won.

Jeremy Shockey = La Resistance type heel. Cheap heat, lots of air time, little actually accomplished thus far.

Pete Rose, perhaps, just for being such a confrontational antagonistic uncomprimising asshole. But in that case, he's also kinda a tragic figure, because it's working against him now (though it probably helped him be the great player that he was).

The Devils. For their "main-event style."

Martina Hingis was a decent enough heel, though short lived. And nobody but me will think to mention her, so...

She's The Rock: trash-talking jerk, but good, and you gotta love her anyway.

The REAL heels of the women's circuit are the Williamseseses! Duh!

Here's one..

The Toronto Media and its marks.

They still think they are the best, when really they aren't (except for football and baseball)

Since the departures of Milt Dunnell and Jim Proudfoot, there is not one single good sports writer in Toronto. Only guy I might except would be Eric Duhatschek, but he writes for The Globe And Mail, which is a national paper.

And yes, the Devils are THE heel team in the NHL. As for individual heels, I would single out Pat Quinn, Marty McSorley, Darcy Tucker, Eric Lindros and evil ref Kerry Fraser. Hall of Fame heel: Ulf Samuelsson.

And of course, Bob Clarke. I mean, who can forget this classic:

I've heard Marty McSorley is a really nice guy off the ice. And 80s Oilers can do no wrong in my eyes.

Yes, the Devils are the biggest heel team in the NHL, no doubt. When they scored that game-winner in game 7 against the Senators, "FUCK YOU!" rang out acorss the neighborhood.

I said Marty McSorley, when I was actually thinking of current cheap-shot king Bryan Marchment.

Griffey, when he was on top of the world, was like The Rock.

Other baseball heels you've got John Rocker, Roberto Alomar, Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez and Barry Bonds. I also hate Luis Gonzalez, but that isn't because he's a heel.

How is A-Rod a heel? Taking more money doesn't make you a heel. He's never caused any problems and has always handled himself well on and off the field.

Didn't he say he would take a trade if it would "Help the Rangers?"

Sounds like he's trying to get out of doing the job there.

I wouldn't call A-Rod a heel. I won't begrudge anyone taking the money, but he should have just said "Who can turn down a quarter billion?" instead of the typical this team has a good future shit. (They didn't when he signed, they do now)

And I don't blame him for wanting out, because how was he supposed to know they would follow up his signing by spending 15 mil a year on fucking Chan Ho Park. That signing set them back years.

Man, Damien Cox is a pretty good writer, and I think he hates the Leafs more than you do.

Actually, I think deep down he likes them and wants them to win, but just hates the way they're being run. He's like a jilted fan with the volume turned way up.

And isn't Duhatschek from Calgary, anyway?

Damien Cox is a great writer, does voice his opinions well, and is knows what needs to take place in the organization.

If Pat Quinn had Damien as an advisor, I think Toronto would be a serious threat, or a champion by now.

Peopl might call John Rocker a heel, but he's just misunderstood. Nice guy if you can talk to him for a couple of minutes.

A reporter asked him a question, and he gave an answer. Its not like he's running to every newspaper outlet begging for a trade.

I disagree with Barry Bonds as well. Most people who know him say he's a good guy. Its just idiot reporters who get on his case because he's not their kind of guy. Bonds plays as good as anyone in baseball, and he's never gotten in trouble with the law.

For baseball, the ultimate sports heel was always Albert Belle.

He's apparently also not the nicest guy with fans or team mates.

I can deal with being a prick to the press and almost understand his team mate logic, but if he really is an ass to fans, that's unacceptable.
