MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Heads up in case anyone wants to catch it. Of course, the DVD set is out the following week, so some people might not care. Also, a lot of places that sell DVDs have special preview discs of Season 2 that also have a rebate form on them ($10 for both 1 and 2 and $5 for either 1 or 2).. the max 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I plan to buy the set when it comes out. I already have the whole season on 5 tapes and I have to work on Labor Day.
Mole 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Hmm..I'll watch it. I never got into 24, and I plan to for season 3. I watched half of season 1 on DVD, but never got around to see the other half.
the max 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Did you rent the rest of Season 1 on DVD, mole? Both are great, but they have their strong sides. Season 1 was written MUCH better than season 2, IMO. Far more personal with Jack and his family, which made it better to watch. Season 2 had more of a shocking story to it, which added something, but the personability of Jack was gone. Since he was colder and more distant, it was hard to rationalize with him on a lot of stuff that he did. You know he's the good guy, but you're left with a "WHAT THE FUCK!?" a few times. I prefer Season 1 over Season 2, and hold up the first half of Season 1 to almost any first season of any show ever made and say that it's just as good or better. Mole 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Nope, I never watched the rest of it. I will get around to it sometime. When, I don't know.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Season 2 had its points, but it wasnt as good as Season 1. I have my hopes high for season 3 from what I've read.
JasonX 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Season 2 had its points, but it wasnt as good as Season 1. I have my hopes high for season 3 from what I've read. Season 2 was better than Season 1 because it's story was more real-to-life and had more believable shock twist and turns than the first season did...
the max 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2003 That was all Season 2 had over Season 1 though. Season 1 was written better (besides amnesia) and had the better ending. Season 2 had the more realistic story, but the ending sucked (IMO) and it just seemed to wrap into a nice sparkley little bow, unlike Season 1's ending, which was far more realistic and true to life. The Dames 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2003 I prefer Season 1 over Season 2, and hold up the first half of Season 1 to almost any first season of any show ever made and say that it's just as good or better. I agree with this statement wholeheartedly, Max. I pimped the first season of 24 as much as possible, especially when it was released on DVD. The feeling that I had Tuesdays at 9p.m. during it's initial airing was one that I doubt will be duplicated in quite some time as I literally rushed home to panically sit in front of the television, wondering what would happen next. Not only did I believe that Season 1 was more personal because of Jack's personal situation with his family (which was stronger than his vendetta against the Drazens in the latter half), but because of the secondary characters. The relationship between Jack and Nina with their history and his friction with Tony because of her made for good television as it intertwined with the rest of the storyline. The Tony & Michelle relationship didn't add any real tension or at the very least contribute to the storyline at all. They went the obvious route with Kim, making her the damsel in distress again, but added an annoying child to the mix, which is the ultimate plot device. The only time I felt that 24: Season Two really concentrated on a character that we cared about that truly altered the story was the sub plot with George Mason. the max 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2003 Exactly. While I really liked what they did with Mason, the rest of the secondary characters at CTU were basically washed out with strong performances by Donnie Keshawarz (Yusef Auda) and a great performance by Gregg Henry as Jonathan Wallace. packwingfn 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2003 Watchin the 24 Marathon Gotta love the first episode where Jack blows the guy's head off and asks for the hacksaw with Mason (RIP) saying "Are you out of your mind" Gotta love the beard too
fazzle 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2003 "I'm gonna need a hacksaw" is still the best line of the season. Unfortunately, Kate actually DOES exist, and it wasn't just a bad dream. DIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIE!
Guest Choken One Report post Posted September 1, 2003 fuck that... The cops marathon ruled all.
the max 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2003 "I'm gonna need a hacksaw" is one of the comedic lines of the season, but Jack's soliloque to Nina on the plane is my favorite. "The Sunday before you killed my wife... Teri and I went to the boardwalk in Venice just watching all the rollerbladers and musicians. Laughing at the crazy people. Spending time together. And Teri sees this sno-cone stand. She giggles like a kid. She takes off running, she wants to get in line, she wants one. I remember I was watching her, I was just... I couldn't help myself. When I look up at her she's talking to this old lady in line behind her and the two of them are laughing, and I'm thinking to myself, how the hell does she do that? How does she strike up a conversation with an absolute stranger? And they just start laughing! Like they'd been friends forever. That's a GIFT. I remember thinking, God, I wish I could do that. But I can't. That was Teri. My wife. That's what you took from this world, Nina. That's what you took from me, and my daughter. *pause* I just wanted you to know that." packwingfn 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2003 Yah that was a great line....real sad too. This is a great episode, the one on now, I remember shedding a tear at the end. Not as bad as the hour that Nuke blew up tho
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2003 I thought we had spoiler tags for a reason? I've still yet to watch 24 Season 2 and don't plan on seeing anything till I get it on DVD, but you guys should really use spoiler tags if you're gonna discuss just about anything, as most elements of both seasons shouldn't be revealed to those who haven't seen it. Jeez. I know it's a season 2 thread, but I didn't think there was a need to be talking about the details of the storylines without the use of spoiler tags. At least give some warning about spoilers if you're not gonna use the tags.
fazzle 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2003 Gawd, the ending scene of that episode is still really powerful Spoiler (Highlight to Read): But nowhere NEAR as powerful as it was the first time. They ended up ruining it by having the bombing meaning NOTHING. With the exception of randomly working phones depending on what the plot needed, the bomb had no effect in the long run. Instead they turned it into a cheap shock tactic. And to that I say blah.
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted September 2, 2003 Put spoiler warnings of course, but if someone could do a recap of season 2, I'd appreciate it, I was working most of today and I didn't get to catch it much on FOX (I'll have to rent some DVD's I guess)
the max 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2003 Season 2 summary Spoiler (Highlight to Read): A terrorist organisation is hired by a group of oil-crats to detonate a nuclear weapon on US soil in order to cause the US to go to war with the Middle East, thus raising oil prices, and nearly quadrupling their worth. They forge a sound file of a leader of said Terrorist organisation with the three Middle Eastern countries' leaders. Jack Bauer, meanwhile, has been dealing with the death of his wife, his daughter wanting nothing to do with him, and has been away from work for a year and a half. He is called in to CTU to establish contact with a leader of the terrorist organisation (Joseph Wald), with the promise that his daughter will be taken a safe distance from LA. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2003 Season 3 hasnt had the insane hype that season 2 had, yet anyway. Season 2 did have better ratings than season 1, but mostly because of American Idol.. Im hoping that the toned down the hype factor so that it wont be such a big disapointment as last year ultimately was (although it was good, but not as good as the first season was..) fazzle 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2003 Season 3 needs a concentrated evil. Even it's not Nina(which it better be) it would help out alot. Season 1 had Gaines and the Drazens, that's it. Season 2 had a new villian every 2 weeks, and half of them ended up helping Jack out.
