I just grew up with her and she'll always have a special place in my heart, no matter how hard I try to disown her. Madonna is definitely out of touch, and her CD sales show it, but she'll always be a huge box office attraction as a live performer, simply because she is one of the biggest stars of the past 25 years in all of entertainment. First she stars in some GAP commercial with Missy Elliot, and then "kisses" Britney & Christina. Wow, more fake lesbianism for the sake of shock value, using a gimmick/stunt that really hasn't shocked anyone in over ten years. I think Madonna should just go home and admit that she had a great run and she defined a culture of females thru the 80's and early 90's, but she is no longer the driving force of 18-25 year olds anymore. I don't mind her making music, as it is usually pretty decent stuff, but I don't need her making one appearence a year in which she blatantly tries to do something, "shocking" in order to win back over the teen-early twenty somethings crowd. And she's getting credit for making videos that get banned, which is funny since the songs for those videos completly suck. Her music to me is still pretty good, and I think she has had areas of making worse music than she currently is now. For example, I don't really like the music from True Blue to Causing A Commotion, but then she went and did Like A Prayer and was better than she had been beforehand. I don't think her music currently is as bad as it was then, and I do hope she can lift herself again, just for at least one more great album. But I like her being around as only she, U2, George Michael, Bon Jovi and Kylie Minogue have been charting consistently since the 80s off the top of my head and I hope they can all last as long as possible because I still enjoy their stuff (except Michael and Bon Jovi are starting to drag). So, in closing, praise Madonna. She is the biggest selling star internationally of the 80s, and it's not like the music scene is that great right now.
