Guest JMA Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Personally, I'm tired of Lawler wrestling (even it is just a few times a year). He needs to retire from active competition. I know the fans love him in Memphis, but that doesn't make it okay for him to dominate or get a win over active wrestlers. He needs to know when to hang up the boots. Gorilla and Ventura did.

Jesse only got out due to his lung problems. He was happily sucking in the ring as late as '85. Lawler shouldn't work anymore --- but I'd kill for him to teach at least ONE WWE guy how to throw a friggin' worked punch that looked good. -=Mike
Guest JMA Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Lawler shouldn't work anymore --- but I'd kill for him to teach at least ONE WWE guy how to throw a friggin' worked punch that looked good. He could always become a trainer.

He could always become a trainer. I'm not sure I'd want him to teach anything BUT how to throw a punch. I get the feeling that if the biz was as "smart" when he was a huge draw as it is now, he'd have been CRUCIFIED. -=Mike --- how many titles did Lawler hold in Memphis? 100?
Guest Coffey Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Back in the 70's early 80's, Jerry Lawler was the fucking shit. The piledriver was no joke back then. Andy Kaufman jobbed out to that bitch, and he was the intergender champion!!
ChrisMWaters Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I'm not sure I'd want him to teach anything BUT how to throw a punch. Well, if they didn't have a ban on the move, I could see him teaching others how to do the piledriver properly.

Nevermortal Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I'd like to see Jerry Lawler booking some WWE shows. I like the Memphis wrestling I've seen, even if some of the stuff is goofy.
Lil' Bitch Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I'd rather have Lawler stop commentating rather than stop wrestling...
Guest wrestlingbs Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I'd like to see Lawler not defend JR every time a heel badmouthes the guy. JR: That certified jackass! We should do something! Lawler: I'm not doin' shit. Solve your own damn problems.
Art Sandusky Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Man, I thought this was a news story until I saw the "please" in the subtitle of the thread. Damn you, JMA.

Guest Trivia247 Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Its not like Lawler was any stellar wrestler to begin with... his was always a Basic Oldschool Mat style with alot of Good ol fashion Memphis Heelery... which was what made Lawler good as a wrestler, he was more character than he was physical.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Back in the 70's early 80's, Jerry Lawler was the fucking shit. The piledriver was no joke back then. Andy Kaufman jobbed out to that bitch, and he was the intergender champion!! OF course you'd have to mention that.

Guest Boo_Bradley Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Lawler won the USWA title 36 times alone I believe between 1988 and 1997
Guest Coffey Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Its not like Lawler was any stellar wrestler to begin with... he was always a Basic Oldschool Mat style with alot of Good ol fashion Memphis Heelery... He was old school. That's when he wrestled. He didn't wrestle the old school style...he wrestled how the style was at the time.

I didn't say it was old school then...if it was old school then well then no one would be wearing boots.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Koko B. Ware is a former multy time USWA Champ, showing how good you haver to be to hold it.
The Czech Republic Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Dare I say I'd rather have Lawler wrestle than commentate. If he just played an old-school heel, that might be entertaining. I liked the cocky jerk Jerry Lawler, not the "JR's buddy" Lawler we have now.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I don't find LAwler THAT bad, its just his reputation for womens matches that makes him look like crap. When did Lawler go from asshole commentator to J.R's sidekick?
The Czech Republic Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 When did Lawler go from asshole commentator to J.R's sidekick? It was a gradual progression from 1997 to 2001, then when he came back in November 01 he was just a happy mugging fella.
Guest Coffey Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I don't dislike Lawler in the ring when he's playing a babyface that has to take a beating. "Bah Gawd! He's an old man!" When he wins is when there is a problem. You know he has to fight Coach tonight because he's no longer the #1 contender. He lost to Christian last week and that must have knocked him back down to #2.
Guest Trivia247 Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 hell when he tried playing Heel commentator outside of wrestling in the WWF he sounded to whiny..... whenever a face makes the pin.. 1... no 2... Noo 3.. NOOOOO!!!!!
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Lawler did PBP outside of WWE? Hmm....(remembers nothing)
Spaceman Spiff Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Lawler shouldn't work anymore --- but I'd kill for him to teach at least ONE WWE guy how to throw a friggin' worked punch that looked good. -=Mike Chuck Palumbo throws a good punch. Probably the best in the WWE currently.
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Koko B. Ware is a former multy time USWA Champ, showing how good you haver to be to hold it. Is it koko's fault he was Black and genetics made him small so the rich white promoters saw fit to use him as enhancement talent instead of being pushed? Besides Koko had history in Memphis, he was a upper card Heel as a PYT in the early 80's there *cue Wrestling Deacon*
Guest The Real Nosferatu Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Oh....just wondering cause he won the title in 1993-94, after his god awful High Energy gimmick.
