EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 I want to start a fan group called "Placido's Polancos." My bro ask me what a Polanco was. I told him a Polanco is a slick middle infielder. I think it works.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 . All the Braves hate, unless you are a Yankees fan, is pure jealousy. Even if you're a Yankee fan, why hate the Braves? They're not direct competition in the AL, there's no long and storied rivalry, and The Yanks have beaten them in the WS eight straight games. No real reason to hate.
Guest Bobby Cox is God Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 IF the Yankee fans hate the Braves, it's not because they are jealous, that's all I was saying.
treble Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 As a Jays fan, what reason would I have to be jealous of the Braves? Toronto beat them in the '92 Series, and have won 1 more championship than they have since their run started, despite not making the playoffs since '93.
Vern Gagne Posted September 9, 2003 Author Report Posted September 9, 2003 Damn Twins can't get a clutch hit tonight.
the pinjockey Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I think going with a Polanco group might be overkill. He already has had two IIRC. Placido's Domingos and Lake Placido. And those guys who set up the field were great. I doubt management would let them become regulars, though, it is probably a little too dangerous for their liking.
Guest Bobby Cox is God Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 If you are even trying to tell me that the Blue Jays are a more successful franchise in the 1990's because they have one more championship then you need to study up on baseball. 162 games > 11 wins or back when the Jays won it 8.
the pinjockey Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Who said the Blue Jays were the more successful franchise in the 90s? There is a difference between saying you aren't jealous of another team and saying my team was more successful.
the pinjockey Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Lets see who doesn't have a fan group. Everyday: Utley Rollins Abreu Bench: Punto Perez Ledee Michaels Those are the only everyday players who don't have one yet, that I can think of. Most of the bench guys don't. All of the starting pitchers have them, even Telamaco.

treble Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Yeah, I'm not going to say that the Jays are the more successful franchise over the past 10-15 years, I was just saying that they've provided me with 2 championships, while the Braves have only won 1, so I have no reason to envy Atlanta's fans. Oh, and my new goal for the Blue Jays the rest of the way is to finish better than whoever wins the Central. Only 5 back of Chicago with all their games left against Tampa, Baltimore, Detroit, and Cleveland. Halladay has a good shot at 23 wins, too.
the pinjockey Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I did go to a couple of games where they had a sign for the Jose Mesa Fan Club, and no one was sitting in the area. I liked that one.
Rob E Dangerously Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I did go to a couple of games where they had a sign for the Jose Mesa Fan Club, and no one was sitting in the area. I liked that one. I bet "Mesa's guys with cool facial hair" wouldn't be a catchy group title? How about the "Slap him again Tony" group for Mesa? (Referring to an incident with Mesa and Tony Pena in Cleveland)
the pinjockey Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Mesa's Mopers might work. Referring to the fact after every bad outing he just hangs his head pathetically walking back to the dugout. Of course the crowd cheering every time the manager steps out of the dugout to pull you probably won't do much for your confidence.
Guest Choken One Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 What about the reds? Do they have fan clubs... I know Boone had Boonie's Buddies.

Referring to the fact after every bad outing he just hangs his head pathetically walking back to the dugout. Of course the crowd cheering every time the manager steps out of the dugout to pull you probably won't do much for your confidence. the incident with Pena and Mesa went like this The Indians were playing the Yankees one day in '95 when Pena thought closer Jose Mesa had shifted into cruise control. So he marched out to the mound for a conference and whacked Mesa upside the head with his glove. "As a catcher, I tried to learn each guy's personality, and Jose Mesa was one of the guys who needed someone to come in and push him, tell him, 'C'mon, let's go'," Pena says. "That's one thing I found out as a catcher. Each guy is different. "Some guys, you have to babysit. Some guys, you have to scream at."

the pinjockey Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Wouldn't burning Vizquel effigies be a support of Mesa? We can't have any of that.
Rob E Dangerously Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Wouldn't burning Vizquel effigies be a support of Mesa? We can't have any of that. Just hold up a sign daying "Joe Table" As for Cincy fan clubs The Dane-ish Branyan's .200/40 club The House of Pena
Vern Gagne Posted September 9, 2003 Author Report Posted September 9, 2003 The Twins have little fan clubs like the Hawk's Nest. But they don't bring a huge nest and all wear bird wings. Gardies Gardners-everyone wears overall and dresses like a gardner.
Rob E Dangerously Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Gardies Gardners-everyone wears overall and dresses like a gardner. Then again, Gardenhire sorta looks like Scott Steiner Vern, show up with a 'Gardy's freaks and peeps' fan club
Spaceman Spiff Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 And those guys who set up the field were great. I doubt management would let them become regulars, though, it is probably a little too dangerous for their liking. I really liked when someone (I forget who) hit a homerun, and the fan representing him was climbing up, over, and down the seats in order to "run" the bases. Mesa had "Mesa's Faces" earlier in the season. Bunch of people w/ fake goatees.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Well, the Phillies laid down a beatdown of epic proportion against the Braves. The Marlins won as well, so the wild card is still tied.
the pinjockey Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 So can we put it at even odds now that the Phils will score two runs or less tomorrow. Not that it matters, Padilla owns the Braves. Just got my tickets for the next to last game at the Vet today. Time to hit ebay for last game tickets. Al, do you think 40-50 dollars is reasonable for a 600-700 level ticket to that game?
treble Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 What I want the playoffs to look like, based on the situation right now: AL - Red Sox, White Sox, A's, Mariners NL - Braves, Cubs, Giants, Dodgers I don't really care who wins out of that pool, although I think a White Sox/Cubs World Series would be quite awesome.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Just got my tickets for the next to last game at the Vet today. Fucking shithole of a stadium.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I don't really care who wins out of that pool, although I think a White Sox/Cubs World Series would be quite awesome. Why. People complained about all NY, all Chicago litterally has no appeal to anyone outside Illinois.
the pinjockey Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Just got my tickets for the next to last game at the Vet today. Fucking shithole of a stadium. And it is our shithole.
the pinjockey Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 And a Cubs/White Sox world series would be better than NY/NY, because at least both teams are teams you wouldn't mind seeing win. The subway series I was hoping they would find a way for both teams to lose.
treble Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 People don't hate Chicago like they do New York, though (well, the Yankees in particular). Plus, you'd have all that excitement in Chicago that one of those teams is FINALLY going to win something. It would have an element that the Subway Series didn't have.
