JJMc Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Not what you think. I'm not referring to the NWA/WCW "Unified" Tag Titles from '93. I was just watching Superbrawl VIII, and there was a Tag Title match between the Steiners and the Outsiders. It is announced as being for the Unifed Tag Team Title, and the Steiners come out with two sets of belts. One is the classic WCW Tag Team Title, and the other is the belts that debuted in '97 (?) which I believe was some sort of NWO angle. My question is, how could you call them "Unified" when one set of belts was just an NWO knockoff? Maybe I'm forgetting something, I honestly don't know. Can someone help me out here? Thanks-JM
Steviekick Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 My quick answer is that I remember there was a descrepancy and both teams wound up calling themselves the champs with their own belts.
Guest The Notorious CRD Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 IIRC, the Miracle Violence Connection (AKA Doc and Gordy) unified the titles by winning both sets. After that, the titles were always defended simultaneously, hence they became the Unified Tag Team titles.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Umm, JM said in the first line of his post that he wasn't referring to the 1993 titles, otherwise you'd be correct.
cawthon777 Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Might be wrong here but I think the Outsiders had their own belts made after X-Pac & Hall (X-Pac subbed for Nash) lost to the Steiners in October.
