The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

Well done Brian, you had the 3000th post. Just for giving me a link to the shirt, you deserve it. However, that isn't the same shirt, but thanks though.

EW had an article about Joss and what he is doing next. I'd scan the article, but I already cut up the magazine and put the picture on my wall.

I hate Illyria. Her shtick is old and boring and not at all funny. I am pissed they killed off Fred for this story, especially since it's not going to have proper resolution. It's such a waste of Wes too.

Only a week till season 6 comes out. I'm REALLY hyped.

There are no suitable words in any language that describes my hate for you, Anyanka.

So I have to make one up.

An entire language.

Along with culture, customs, and a few religions.

Just so this word can accurately and effectively portray my true feelings toward you.

... this may take a while.

*off to create society*

*tries*

*gets bored after a few seconds*

Ah fuck it.

You suck.

Ass.

ASS!

It's like the worst thing you could possibly suck.

Yeah, you just got rudOWNED. Now dismiss Season 6 as the shittiest of all seasons and proclaim Illyria as one of the greatest characters ever created and ABUZULLION times better than anything that came out of that horrendous, disasterous, ass-backwards, deserving-of-infinite-ridicule, and, quite frankly, ASS SUCKINGLY BAD season known as Season 6... or as RRR calls it, Season Sucks (ass).

Ehh, Season Six was ok.

It's around 20 hours til the last Angel and it still hasn't sunk in. Yeah, it was just a show, but to sum it up nicely, man what a show.

Bets as to who's going to die (I haven't read the spoilers):

Harmony

Gunn

Wes

and Angel becomes human. Dammit, I'm an optimist.

Listen, Season Sucks sucked. Hence the name. I wish I could change the name, but I can't. So there you go. Now we all just have to deal with it and hope that -in time- the wounds from such a bad season will heal... perhaps with zany, drunk-with-maJiK, Willow witch power.

Basically, it broke down everything established in Season 5 - my favourite season. Plus they had drunk-with-maJiK Willow, and I was never a fan of witchy willow, so you can imagine how annoyed I was when she got a lot of the focus that season. Buffy - the hero - was becoming unglued, and I -as a codependant viewer- needs to cheer on someone strong. Xander and Anya, a couple which RULED in season 5, broke up and Anya got less fun and more whiney. Spike wasn't nearly as good as he was in Season 5, and Dawn just plain sucked. Tara wasn't even approaching how good she was before (Season 5 was a peak season for her and one of the best acting jobs -imo- in the shows entire run) and they (spoiler)killed her off(spoiler). The troika were fun but shit, they posed no threat during any of the season, PLUS, it lacked the strung-togetherness that Season 5 had. On top of all that, the singular episode quality wasn't close to being as good as Season 5 or even Season 4... and HELLO, Buffy going insane??? Shit, they fucking stole that from DS9.

Illyria rules all!!!

Tisk tisk, RRR. Season 6 was a good season, not the best since season 5 and 3 were better, but it was still good. Why?

First off, they tried something new with the series. They were growing up, no more college stuff and it went a bit darker. Buffy was just so damn depressed I loved every minute of it. Even though Buffy was lonely all of the time, she was still happy somewhat. But in season 6, she was torn out of heaven, her "father" left her, Willow was addicted to crack, Xander and Anya broke up, Riley had a new bitch, she was fucking Spike and I mean FUCKING Spike, which was against everything she believed in, Tara dies and Willow goes all crazy. Seeing our hero sad as shit was great because I love drama like that.

Then we had Willow, the good girl, become a crack...er...magic addict. In season 2, hell even season 5, would you have thought that Willow would have gone crazy after her lover was killed and tried to end the world? Noooooooooo, which makes it fuckin sweet.

We had Giles leave, which makes perfect sense for everything going crazy. He was the one who kept everything together and when he was gone, shit hit the fan. Then bam, he comes back and things come back together again.

Dawn was annoying, I'll give you that, but she was SUPPOSED to be annoying. I am sure the writers were trying to make her as annoying as possible. When a 15 year old mom just died, who gets no attention from anyone, is always by herself, whose sister is fuckin a vampire with a chip in his head and is always gets taken hostage, is going to be a little shit.

Best of all, you had Xander and Anya's relationship. Did anyone who watched "Hell's Bells" actually think they would get married? Especially in the Buffyverse? Even though I love Anya, I could never marry a girl who isn't the smartest girl on the block, probably just a tad bit smarter than the retard down the street. Their relationship symbolizes the whole season perfectly.

Then you have Spike. The vampire who "loves" a VAMPIRE SLAYER, but only gets to fuck her. He wasn't anywhere as cool as season 4/5 Spike, but he couldn't be the same. They had to change his character a little bit and it fit the mood of the season; dark. We got to know Spike better than we ever did. Spike wanted the same relationship that he and Dru had with Buffy. There was no way Buffy would do that, but she got pretty damn close because Spike is the man.

Plus we had "Bargaining Pt 1 & 2," "Once More, With Feeling," "Tabula Rasa," "Smashed," "Wrecked," "Hell's Bells," "Seeing Red," "Villians," "Two to Go" and "Grave." Those all are atleast B+ episodes and when half of the season is that good I see a pretty damn good season.

Season 5 and 3 are better, but when we get something much different I like it. Same reason I like season 4 of Angel; because it was something a lot different from the others.

Willow's addiction is a great story with sooo much build. The kind of build that's actually shown on screen.

Buffy's depression and relationship with Spike is awkward and disturbing, but I think it's fascinating. I really like how much of a price her coming back was. I wish they had went into that more.

Anya/Xander are awesome in season 6. The result of the wedding makes me sad, but in a good, not hate Joss way.

Tara is lame. I like her death.

The trio are the greatest super villains ever. They are just hilarious and a joy to watch. Warren and Andrew are cuties too.

The eps are strung together in a good way. I hate how season 7 of Buffy and Angel seasons like bleed together. Season 6 does a good job of telling it's story and getting across it's theme while still feeling like it's actually different eps.

Single ep quality isn't as good as 4, but what is?

Normal Again does suck.

I think you're the one who's crazy. There's clearly something wrong with someone who doesn't like season 6.

Guest Brian

I'm watching Season Two, Guise will be Guise, and this does a really good job of setting up two big themes of the season. This master guy who's with Angel, brings up that Angel's vampire-self is a gift, and that ties into Darla wanting to return from her human state. The second is the talk of holding back, that the demon would kill him. This is along the lines of the Pylea mini-story.

I love it even more since they have been building it up since season 2.

Lets not go over board here. They were no where near as good as Angelus, the Mayor or Faith.

Single ep quality isn't as good as 4, but what is?

Once again, don't go overboard here. Easy, season 5 is better than both of them.

I never ever understood the love for season 4. It never did a thing for me like 5, 3, 6 and 2 did. Why do you like 4 so much?

Spike, Anya, Riley and Tara join the cast.

The Intiative is cool and gives the season it's own flavor.

Adam is a great heel. I wish he was in it more.

Some classic stand alone eps, like Something Blue and Hush.

Pangs is the funniest ep ever.

Anya in a bunny suit.

Good main theme(college and the scoobies falling apart) that has a nice conclusion.

A lot of good stories, like Giles feeling uselss, Willow's gayness, Xander/Anya start. It's the beginning of the post-highschool era, which I like better than 1-3.

Really, the only thing I DON'T like is that there's not enough Anya and no Warren and Andrew at all.

I don't remember "Pangs" being a funny episode. I'm sure it had it's funny moments, but "Something Blue" was much funnier.

Pangs is hilarious. If you don't remember it being a funny ep you don't remember it!

Buffy's obsession with the dinner is so awesome.

Spike yes, Anya yes, Tara yes, Riley HELL FUCKIN NO.

The Intiative is cool and gives the season it's own flavor.

Yeah that was interesting, but I don't like how they just appeared out of nowhere. Were they there before? Or did this BIG gov't operation come out of left field during the summer? That is something that bugs me BIG TIME about season 4.

Adam is a great heel. I wish he was in it more.

He was great. However, I was he was in it more which is one of the problems with the season. He was introduced in episode 13 and was only in 7 episodes after that. If my memory serves me correct, we only learn of his plan in "New Moon Rising." I wish we knew a lot more about him, which is one of the faults of the season.

Pangs is the funniest ep ever.

Woah, you sure about that one? From the top of my head, funnier than "Tabula Rasa," "The Zeppo," "A New Man," "Triangle," hell even "Superstar?" Nope, can't agree with you on that one.

A lot of good stories, like Giles feeling uselss, Willow's gayness, Xander/Anya start. It's the beginning of the post-highschool era, which I like better than 1-3.

All great stories, but better than a rogue slayer, Giles loosing his job, Wes the watcher, the Mayor's plan, and Angel/Buffy falling out?

Or Dawn as the key, Joyce dieing, Buffy becoming a mom, Buffy's new training, Anya working at the Magic Shop, Tara loosing her mind, Glory/Ben, Spike "falling in love" with Buffy, and Buffy killing herself to save the world? I think not.

Anya in a bunny suit.

That was sweet, but one episode with Anya in a bunny suit doesn't make a season great.

Good main theme(college and the scoobies falling apart) that has a nice conclusion.

Yes, that was really good.

The eps are strung together in a good way. I hate how season 7 of Buffy and Angel seasons like bleed together.

Wait, wasn't season 4 the same way?

Don't worry Anya, we have the same love for season 6.

I like Riley a lot. He's such a nice guy. The Buffy/Riley story is good. The end is especially awesome, though it's not in season 4.

I assume The Intiative is new. They would have known about the Slayer if they had been there for a while, plus Adam wasn't finished till halfway.

Triangle and A New Man are indeed funny, but Pangs is just too good. I just watched Triangle and Pangs the other day and A New Man is the next ep I'm at in season 4(I'm going through it currently)....good times.

I don't find any of those season 3 stories to be THAT good. Except maybe Wes. I love Wes. Especially nerdy old school Wes. He's adorable.

A lot of that season 5 stuff(like Buffy as a single parent, Spike/Buffy) doesn't really come to a climax until season 6. But yeah, nothing tops Buffy's second death in The Gift. That ep is my favorite ever.

And yes, the Bunny suit does in fact make the entire season good.

Pangs is the episode where Angel is secretly in town and Buffy wants to have a peaceful Thanksgiving right? It's been awhile since I've seen it.

Yes.

The end where Xander accidently slips about Angel is classic!

Riley's mere presence brings down season four and he didn't get interesting with some level of depth until season five. I also disliked The Initiative and Adam; The Initiative just seemed out of place and Adam struck me as a season one-ish throwaway monster, even if some of his motives were cool.

I never understood why everyone hates Riley. He comes off as so likable to me. I really root for Buffy getting with him.

The Initiative does seem out of place....but in a good way. I'm glad it only lasted for one year though.

What makes Adam good to me is his voice. In fact he looks kinda dumb. The makeup and get up is just too goofy looking. But his voice more than makes up for it. He just sounds so cool.

What's up with him having a floppy disc drive though? Walsh must have been way out of date.

Oh, and no, season 4's eps do not bleed together like season 7. Maybe with the exception of the very end, with New Moon Rising, Yoko Factor and Primeval. But that's reasonable. Once FE is fully introduced in season 7 it's ALL FE, ALL THE TIME. They do nothing but have like 70 SITs chilling out in the Summers house while everyone talks about how they're all going to die and how it's a WAR~! When I think of season 7 I just think of this one big lump of TV, like one big story. It's like a 22 hour movie. There is no difference between "Get it Done" and "End of Days". It's all the same thing. But that's not the case with Buffy season 4, or most Buffy seasons.

Guise will be Guise

I fucking *LOVE* that episode!

"You were in Virginia?"

"That's beside the point!"

"Why is Wesley wearing my coat?"

Magnus: That's why I hired him. He's a eunuch.

Cordy: You slept with her?

Angel: A eunuch?

Wesley: Things happen... two young people, danger.

Virginia: What are you talking about?

Magnus: She was a virgin before you got here.

Virginia: I was not a virgin.

Magnus: What?

Wesley: Oh thank goodness.

Gunn: I could have told you she wasn't no virgin.

Angel: Not a eunuch.

Cordy: One day as Angel... one day and he's getting some.

Magnus: What, how could you? I kept you away from all men.

Angel: The curse isn't even all that clear!

Spike tied up is just hilarious. Especially when they're shooting at him.

"Hey. Watch the heart."

And Spike talking about conquering is golden.
