The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

You can DL the episodes here, however, I recommend watching "Serenity" (the first episode) and then buying the Box Set (cause you WILL buy it after watching Serenity - I'd rank that episode with any of the top Buffy or Angel shows). You could DL all the episodes here, but shit... support the sport...er... show.

Giles gets as much, if not more credit then Xander, because he did spike the magic that Willow absorbed. Though Xander's showed a ton of guts taking on Willow, especially assuming he didn't know what Giles had done.

My God could the picture be any darker on these episodes? I can't tell what I'm seeing.

The DVD's are visually dark (as they lighted it from the inside out rather than from the outside in), but IMO it's perfect for the tone - you don't miss anything in them. I can't imagine how it would show up on the computer screen; the blooper reel was really dark, but certainly tolerable.

...

PRETTY GOOD?!

I thought Serenity was too slow. The first few eps of Firefly are way too slow paced. I really got into the show like halfway through.

I looooooooooved Serenity. I think it was the perfect first episode which introduced the characters and universe in just the right way. Plus it had some hilarious moments and fun twists ("that man is psychotic"). Now that I think of it, the first few episodes could be seen as "slow", but Firefly was aaaaaaall about taking its time.

Disk 3 had Four of the best episodes on it, so I imagine your enjoyment would pick up by then :)

Of course, this discussion could be saved for another thread.... you know... that lil thread thats hanging around on page 2... ;)

I'm both excited and dreading it. Complaining about it will be fun too. Since I am done with complaining about WWE I now just have new Buffy/Angel to hate on.

I won't consider it all over for good until all the DVDs come out though. I also have Angel sesaon 4 to watch.

I'm not watching it JUST to complain. I am obsessed. I have to see it. It's not just a TV show, I can't just stop watching it. The Buffyverse is a huge part of my life, and even though it pisses me of lately I still like to watch it.

Complaining about it is fun too. It's hard to explain, but I guess venting on things I don't like makes me feel better. I'm emotionally invested in the characters so much I have to rant to someone when something happens I don't like.

Also, the show is still good overall. I just get caught up in the negative a lot. Like even though I want to strangle Joss over season 7 I still liked some of it. Andrew is awesome!

season 5 (up until ep 12 at least) is great. It's a lot less down and angsty than the previous 3, but more episodic. Seems to be kindof a tradoff thing there

More Slayer Collection DVDs are on their way to the UK, they obviously know what weak minded people we are. Anywho, volumes will include Cordelia, Dawn, Giles and Xander. I actually have a problem thinking of four episodes for each character than have them in a major role, so it'll be interesting to see what they pick.

For those complaining about the Circle of the Black Thorn, here's something I found off of persephonemoon's Livejournal which pretty much sums up everything perfectly:

I get that the Circle of the Black Thorn is an asspull. I know that ME, in all likelihood, only came up with the idea within the past few months. And even if they've had this planned since the beginning of the season, revealing, like this, in the second-to-last episode, that there's a cabal of really powerful demons that Our Heroes must fight, the key to finding them is a scary looking circle symbol, and one of their major obstacles will be a superstrong ex-Firefly cast member...oh, and it's about power.

Not only is it an asspull, it's the exact same asspull we went through last season with the end of Buffy.

So why don't I hate it?

By all rights, the sudden reveal of a Sooper Seekrit demon club should really piss me off, coming, as it has, out of nowhere.

It's entirely possible that I'm being too forgiving because I can't bear the thought of not loving this show until the bitter end. It's also possible that I'm pre-emptively forgiving them on the basis of what I know about next week. But even after just reading Power Play, I didn't feel I'd been jerked around. It all made perfect sense to me.

Of course the Senior Partners have agents on this plane. And of course there's a way for Angel to locate them, and get invited to be a Stonecutter from within W&H -- isn't that why they put him there? Isn't getting Angel into the Circle of the Black Thorn what W&H's been working for ever since they found out about him? (On a meta level, obviously, no. But on a retcon level, it fits together like clockwork.)

They don't want him dead, they want him dark. What better way to ensure that he's on their side during the Apocalypse than to have him creating it for them? My gut says that Angel is the first W&H higher-up to join the Circle since Holland Manners, who all the other current members seem to recall so fondly. (Nobody's reminiscing about Linwood, notice. But I'm sure Lilah's initiation was only a matter of time.)

I figure the law firm is there to protect its most important asset, the group that manifests itself as the right hand of Wolfram and Hart in this dimension. The power in this dimension is in the Black Thorn; the law firm serves to protect it. Did I make any sense?

Yup, Joss is a cruel bastard.

And I love him for it.

On a side note, Angel was wearing a Wolfram and Hart T-Shirt while playing raquet ball. I really want that shirt.
