The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

Since we're starting things up tomorrow, I might as well post my thoughts on "The Trial":

Average episode, not to big on it. There are things I like, like the start of the episode with Wesley playing darts. In Sanctuary, he wasn't as good and it shows that there's going to be some development in his character. I like Angel and crew marching into the gym, what with the mirror and all and the trick camera work with him disappearing. The main story was OK, nothing major. I liked how they set up the hotel. Nothing spectacular.

Well, I just read on Buffy.nu that Eliza confirmed that Tru Calling has been canceled. Wether or not we see the six eps they had filmed for season 2 now probably depends on how good the DVD sales for season 1 are.

But fear not! Method and Red is probabky still on...

Anyone live in LA? Joss is hosting some Kerry fundraiser party and a bunch of Buffyverse actors are going to be there, including Aly, Nick, Alexis, Benz, Lenk, and some writers. Wow that is so cool. I wish I could go! I don't even like Kerry, but I'd still donate funds if it meant meeting nick brendon.

Did he really say that? Or was that a play on an election speech or something.

I need these things to be pointed out.

No, he didn't really say that. In fact it looks like my hopes for new tv were entirely crushed tonight.

He said there have been no talks for TV movies or a return of Angel.

And then there's this....

Joss done with tv

I'm gonna cry. :(

well, doesn't it say that if he gets a good enough idea he'll do another series? It's not like he'd do a series if he didn't have any ideas, so I don't see the difference

It's just a major sign that it's not going to happen. Especially anytime soon. ME is closing up shop...it's over.

I'm going to have to live with Chosen as the end forever. I can't bear to think of this. It's so depressing. I would do anything to change it. I would give up the entire Angel series and Firefly just to slightly alter Chosen so that I could be satisfied with the end. Now there is almost no chance. I don't know how I will move on.

On the bright side, I ordered the OMWF Anya figure yesterday. Now I'll have Magic Box Anya, Hells Bells Anya, Anyanka Anya, Bunny Anya and OMWF Anya. Soon my army of tiny plastic Emmas will rule the world.

Would that be part of the Joss is a jerk who hates his fans collection?

They should do a Chosen Anya figure. She could have a sword and be in the pose she was in when the ubies rushed in and she says "bunnies" for the last time. It could be a two pack with Andrew. That'd be pretty cool.

I also want bank robber Anya from Him. She could come with a removable ski mask and bags full of money.

They could also do a box set for Selfless. Present day covered in blood Anyanka, Russian Revolution Anyanka and Aud.

Buffy "Brain" Drained Courtesy on EONLINE.

Buffy Summers and her boyfriend Angel survived many a murderous enemy in their TV days.

But their tube papa, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel series creator Josh Whedon, is ending is tube career partly because of a more obnoxious demon: the continuing glut of reality shows popping up on TV's airwaves.

Whedon, who has also written big-screen projects like Toy Story and Alien: Resurrection, asked 20th Century Fox TV to let him end his multiyear deal to develop projects for the studio, Variety reports, and Whedon cites unscripted tube fare as one of his reasons.

"I have a bitter taste in my mouth with where TV has gone in the past five years," he told Variety, labeling the reality TV craze "loathsome."

Whedon, who ends his deal with Fox with more than a year left on his contract, also admits he's booking some personal time for the upcoming birth of his second child, and that, for now, he's simply run out of ideas for new shows.

"I spent a lot of time trying to think what my next series would be," Whedon said. "I couldn't think of anything. When that happens, it generally means something is just not working. I didn't feel like I could come up with anything that the networks would want."

Fox honcho Dana Walden, who agreed to let Whedon prematurely end his deal, said, "Hopefully, sooner rather than later, he'll have an inspired TV idea that he can't help himself from doing. We're just glad that when he decides to do TV again, it will be with us."

The scribe, who will continue to operate his Mutant Enemy TV production company sans staff, is choosing to focus on his movie career instead. Whedon has brushed off rumors that he will replace Bryan Singer as director of the upcoming X-Men 3, but Serenity, his big-screen adaptation of his own short-lived, 2002-03 Fox sci-fi drama Firefly, is in post-production and set for a spring 2005 release.

The news of his TV departure probably does mean a big dose of disappointment for fans of the Buffy universe, however. An animated Buffy series is still in development for next year, but several Buffy and Angel made-for-TV movie projects, which were rumored to focus on the supporting cast members instead of the leads, will most likely languish in fan fiction fantasies while Whedon banishes himself from TV land.

Meanwhile, the former Roseanne writer, whose father and grandfather were also successful sitcom TV writers, hasn't totally ruled out an eventual return to the tube.

"My career has always gone through phases of swelling and shrinking," Whedon said. "It's just a different phase, but this is hopefully not the end of my TV career. There are a lot of people I won't be working with that I will miss."

Anyone elsew going to chime in with thoughts on "The Trial"?

In the mornings on TNT, you can start taping eps at 8:00 since To Shanshu in LA is on tomorrow and Season Two starts after that.

I really hate that Bringer.

And yes, I knew about Adam and Amber. I try to follow all the gossip about the Buffyverse actors.

Emma should start dating Nicky.....even though he's married.

She was going to be at the Kerry fund raiser. Even though she is Republican, she is voting for Kerry. Too bad she missed it, I haven't seen any pics of her recently. She posted at her fan forums a couple weeks ago though.

Not Fade Away was just on... man, that ep gives me goosebumps at the end, even still.

And why is it that Joss likes to kill off my favorite characters in the series enders? First Spike, then Wesley... he probaly would have Killed off Mal on Firefly, had he had the chance.

It seemed like Spacewhore might have died. But, if Joss was going to be a dick, he would have killed off Kaylee.

The Trial...for some reason, I can't bring myself to watch it. The joust thing was just too lame.

Joss is mean and hates his fans.

At least Spike and Wes got nice, satisfying deaths.

NFA gets me hyped up everytime I watch it. Especially the end scene and the scene where they all meet to get their assisments. The look Angel and Wes share! Same with Chosen.

Rudo's On-Going "Judgement" Review:

Segment 1: Great opener. Lorne foreshadowing the entire season, Cordys horrible acting (intentional??) and then leaving without batting an eye, Wesley playing darts (~!) and big pimpin, and then all walking in and out of the gym like they were going through the motions ("He has horns" "Steriods...")

Fuck all yall haters, I loved this episode.

This episode shows how Joss' shows are different from almost everyone elses - the hero is flawed. Not just flawed, goofy and quirky. And he gets beat up, a lot. DB hobbling around is fantastic. The singing at the end is hilarious. There is a lot of different places Angel the character goes in this episode, and it's all good. It also foreshadows the entire season - Angel's confusion, Angel's self-doubt, Angel "getting back on the horse" with help from Lorne, Gunn/Wes/Cordy grouping together while Angel is gone... it just so happens this BEGINS with a pregnant woman but the main arc ENDS with Darla getting pregnant ;)

Cordy and Wes were great here, too.

HO LEE SHIT

"Are you now..." is SOOOO fucking awesome! How did I put off not watching this again? Good LORD, Tim Minear is jesus. Absolutely amazing A+ episode that was a total departure from what both shows were doing. The foreshadowing is killer ( ; ) with Angel letting the demon get all the guests like he let Darla/Dru get the lawyers. If they keep it up with the foreshadowing of Angels heel turn, Season 2 Angel might just challenge for Best Season Ever. Great camera work and visual style and music (!). It all created this unique atmosphere. I loved how Angel just ignored everything -kept to himself- and the second he reaches out and helps someone she turns on him. That whole scene (and following scene) was stellar. The scene with the old lady at the end was also really good, though they never made mention of it (or the Pregnant Lady in Judgement) again, which is another potential storyline the never followed up on that could have been great (another one was the kid with no soul).

My only problems with it, were that Angel got preachy at times, and that there was some continuity errors (Angel smoking and blowing out smoke, the photo of Angel, the elevators - did elevators work that way in the 50's?)

Paranoid Wes is where it is at.

"Are You Now" was the first episode of Angel I watched, and is incredible. Really sucks you in, and it's a great intro to the character of Angel. Very good stuff. That one I might actually re-watch in the next few days.

I believe that there were elevators that worked like that back in the 50's, though I'm not sure if hotels had stopped having the 'elevator driver' by then or not.

Wolfram and Hart had numerous photos of Angel, as did the Government, I think (did the early Initiative have photos of him in S5?). Hell, W&H also had surveliance videos of him. As for the smoking, Spike did it all of the time. IT's just one of those wierd corners that Joss backed himself into when he had Angel say "I have no breath." to Xander in 'Prophecy Girl.'

But I agree with what everyone has said- this was an excellent episode with a great story that just sucks you in. And Rudo, I never realised hom much foreshadowing was in the early eps untill you pointed it out.
