Hey just noticed That Boreanaz guested on MWC once. The ep where the bundys go to the movies on Kellys bday and she shees her boyfriend with another guy, the other guy was Dave. Cant believe I just noticed that. The funny part was how al beat the crap out of angel lol then again he was much skinneier and young lookign then. anyhow cool note.

Well since that thread is almost dead, I figured I would post at least one last time in here. It's been a long strange ride. Actually I didn't start posting in here till I got a PC in March 2004 (I Originally posted in TSM on the pcs at my college, explaining why I dissapeared after december 2002), near the end of season 5. Posting in here and discussing the show even somewhat helped me through a tough time when my beloved uncle passed away shortly after I started to post in this thread.

 

It's been fun getting to know all of you through our discussions, and I am glad that we still may talk through other threads. And If I can't post that wargames story in here, I promise to make a new thread.

We've had this discussion before, but I've been thinking about it a lot lately and I think it's suitable.

 

Situation: You want to introduce someone to Angel, which episode do you show to hook them?

 

I think the BEST pick would be "Are you now or have you ever been?" from Season 2. It is a great stand-alone episode, which is important when you hook someone, and gets across the unique-nature of the show. Most importantly, it has the twist ending of Angel letting them all die. I think twists are a great way of getting someone interested, because it actualizes their investment in the show - when you are surprised by something, it means that you are paying enough attention to be surprised. Firefly had 2 particular twists that hooked me on the show - when Mal told Simon Kaylee was dead, and when the fed was shot. When you are introduced to a world, and you see that the world can change and isn't what you always think, and it essentially manipulates you, you get put on your toes and your eyes start to open - it's an active show watching experience, rather than a passive one.

 

So the Rudo Challenge is as such - can you find a better episode to hook someone to Angel??

not sure if it'd be a good one, since it's kinda late in 2nd season and gives stuff away, but the one where Angel locks the W&M lawyers in the room with Dru and Darla. I'll explain more later.

Thanks RUDO!!!!! I agree on that episdoe. If I had to pick a different one, I would pick the episode where Angel becomes human, only to decide to erase the day, so he can continue to fight for good. I think it sums up who the character of Angel is.

The episodes in question are "I will remember you" and "Reunion". There is no fucking way "Reunion" would be wasted as an introductory episode. That's an episode you earn. The Buffy episode would be good for a Buffy fan who has never watched Angel, but for anyone else I question how they would be effected by the circumstances.

I want to say "Five by Five" but I feel you need more investment in the Faith storyline.

 

I caught "First Date" yesterday and when they're in the graveyard at the start, the camera shows a picture of Snyder's grave.

 

I wanted to close this thing up on the one year anniversary, but this thing never really dies.

ok rudo, how about the one where Angel becomes a bodyguard for the tv actress. It has some good comedy moments, plus shows a glimpse at Angelus, which is a crucial point to know about if you want to get into the show.

That is a pretty decent ep for an intro, helps explain all of the issues surrounding Angel from an outsider's point of view.

 

I think I posted this before, but my first Angel ep was "Are You Now..." and it's an excellent hour of television. You don't need to know anything about Angel himself, and the storyline was really well done, with some nice twists (what's her face blaming Angel, Angel getting hung, Angel letting everyone die). Very satisfying hour of television, no hokey stuff (very important!). Really good standalone episode.

Honestly . the first episode of angel that I watched all the way through was the season 5 premiere. Having seen Buffy before helped, since that one is not agreat entry for a non-fan.

Hey in Parade Magazine today someone asked about what the guy who played Connor (he is 26 btw) was up to and they answered that he has been doing some theater acting and Broadway. Also mentioned that he will be in the upcoming film "Alpha Dog".

I hate how the Angel episode "She" has the awesome dancing scene with Wes and Angel but then the rest is REALLY boring.

 

The first half of Buffy season 4 is the best of the Buffyverse. Pangs, Something Blue, Hush, Doomed and A New Man is the greatest series of episodes. Then it kinda falls apart. The Initiative stuff is boring, I've never cared much for Faith, Oz's return wasn't needed, and Where the Wild Things Are just sucks. Adam was cool but it just wasn't enough. I also don't like Restless as the finale. It's an ok episode on it's own, but Primeval really should have ended it.

 

Doyle needed to be on the show longer.

His exit was so good, why'd he have to come back? He comes back and then leaves almost the same way. Tara's relationship was established enough already without needing Willow to have to choose.
