The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

Guest reekspeak

See, I found it the same with season five of Buffy too, I'd have real trouble remembering a single episode in the middle of that season. Season six wasn't as bad but still, compared to the earlier years, there was definite episode bleeding.

Whatever the case, it certainly isn't something that is exclusive to Angel and that BtVS has never done.

Season 5 of Buffy is one big story arc and there are stand alone episodes that are amazing.

And with season 4 of Angel also. "Apacolypse Nowish" is my favorite episode of all time and that is a part of a story arc.

Saying that episodes in a story arc don't stand out on their own is ludacris.

There's a difference between just being part of an arc and the bleeding together. Hush is a major turning point in the Initiative arc but obviously still is very unique.

I disagree about the Darla arc. Darla is a major point in the arc, as are Reprise and Epihpany. In the former two, it's Angel revelation that does such a nice job setting up the rest of the season mini-arc in Pylea.

News on the Animated Buffy, from the usual source:

Hubba What?? BUFFY Toon Back On Track??

I am - Hercules!!

This can’t be right! But that’s what I said when I heard UPN was thinking about poaching “Buffy” from the WB! It is difficult to imagine that “Peach Buzz” got it wrong! Hi Herc,

I’ve never submitted before so I hope I do this right. Love the site. Not sure if this is old news or not.....

In the Thurs. May 20th edition of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in the "Peach Buzz" section where they talk about local celebrities, they interviewed Alyson Hannigan’s (she’s originally from Atlanta) mother Emile Posner, about an accident that happened in the audience during her performance of "When Harry Met Sally"

As a side note at the end it reads:

’Hannigan’s many "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fans, take note: According to Posner, who recently visited her daughterin London, the actress is reprising her role of Willow. While Posner was in town, Hannigan was recording some voice work for an upcoming "Buffy" animated series.’

Giles, Xander, and Snyder look absolutely terrible. Everyone else looks OK, I guess.

Show doesn't sound that promising.

I am doing the 64 tourney as we speak.

I would have done it earlier today, but I was so damn busy today. Then my computer started fucking up so I had to fix it.

If they do a Spin-off then the only two I see happening are either.

A) A Spike Spin-off since outside of Buffy and Angle he is one of the Main Characters

B) A Giles Sipn-off cause dammit I wanna find out a lot more about Giles. We never really get his full story.

Also Smile Time was just on last week here in Australia and one thing to say.

Holy Short Skirts Batman!!!!!!!!

Why does that animated series have Dawn in it when it's supposed to be from the High School years??

It was going to be based on the fake memories the monks gave them.

Me-thinks they'll ommit a few things established in Buffy (Angel's a mass murderer, Willow's a lesbian).

What are they marketing this to? Kids? Buffy fans?

Willow was with Oz during High School, so there's nothing there to change.

I wonder if they would give Anya a larger role after the events of The Wish. On the show she just disapears off and on. Same with Faith.

I really doubt this is happening and that news should be taken with a grain of salt. This isn't a new project either, those images are years old.

The big bad was the system, to see whether in the end it would corrupt him. And if the costs of Angel's decision were too high. It wasn't really the Senior Partner's; it was more of a matrix-esque set-up. Do you play along with the perks, the glamour, the glory; or do you do what's right. I don't really consider it apart of any big bad; it was more a tale of moral ambiguity and whether it could be pulled off, and in that world all the lines are blurred.

Found this on Buffy.nu, thought it was funny:

Sequel to Buffy’s "Hush ?"

From Peterdavid.net - By Peter David - 2004-05-23rd

A news item in today’s paper said that London residents are being stricken with a mysterious illness that’s rendering them mute.

Fortunately enough, both Tony Head and Allyson Hannigan are in London at the present time. I’m sure that if Sarah Michelle Geller can be talked into heading out there, the three of them should be able to attend to it in no time.

By the way, I suggest checking whedonesque.com for news over buffy.nu. Whedonesque usually gets the news first (I've seen it show up on buffy.nu days later), and it's usually more credible (remember which site started the "Angel to NBC" rumor?)

And Whedonesque has a great little Angel puppet picture for its IE icon. I've been going there for almost two years now and it continually impresses. Good comments section too.

And lastly, Snyder: buffy012.jpg

Ew. Xander and Cordy look kinda sorta like their real-life counterparts, but many of the others are way off. Giles, Joyce, and DAWN especially, those drawings don't look a damn thing like the actual actors. But I gotta admit, just having Dawn in the show at all is a ballsy idea, since her involvement means that at least some part of every episode never really happened.

I did FINALLY see Not Fade Away. My main thoughts? This was the Anti-Chosen. Seriously. It's like Joss sat down and tried to make this finale as different from Buffy's as possible. For example:

-In Chosen, the show ended happily (and kinda lamely) after the huge apocalyptic battle in the Hellmouth. In NFA, the show cut to black right before the (probably suicidal) last fight in a dingy back alley.

-Buffy was fighting a very specific, easily identifiable group of black hats: the bringers, ubervamps, and of course The First. Angel on the other hand never had his enemies hand-picked for him; he basically went out and killed anything evil he could get his hands on.

-Joss made the safe, numbers-friendly approach towards killing main characters in Chosen; only Anya and a could of anonymous slayers got killed. (Exactly how Andrew and Dawn got to be such badasses that they could fight the ubervamps was never explained.) But in NFA, he made the logical choice, killing off some major characters in a way that had the feeling of inevitable fate. Wesley and Lindsey (and probably Gunn) were so stained by their own sins or depression that pretty much everyone assumed that most of them would die.

-Buffy didn't beat the First, because of some bullshit about it not being corporeal and thus invulnerable to harm. Angel didn't beat the Wolf, the Ram, and the Hart simply because he's a common foot soldier in the war against evil, not some god or Higher Power; and Joss was just being realistic in showing him kill the middlemen instead of the top bosses.

-Buffy was just handed all the super-gadgets she needed to win the big fight: the slayer axe, Spike's medallion, etc. Team Angel had nothing more than a few ordinary nice shiny weapons (and Angel didn't even need those to beat Hamilton).

-Finally: Chosen's message seemed to be "Evil is defeated; it's over." NFA's was more like "Evil will NEVER be defeated; it's NEVER over; but we're going to at least try to kick its balls inside out before we die."

Reprise is so vital to this last season. It's the ultimate corruption getting the Vampire with a soul into the group.

"You're playing for the bad guys. Every day you sit behind your desk and you learn a little more how to accept the world the way it is. But here's the rub. Heroes don't do that. Heroes don't accept the world the way it is. They fight it. ...The world keeps sliding towards entropy and degradation. And what do you do? You sit in your big chair, and you sign your checks, just like the Senior Partners planned. The war's here, Angel." --Lindsey, Underneath

Lindsey: "The key to Wolfram and Hart: don't let them make you play their game. You gotta make them play yours."

Angel: "Thanks. I'll keep that in mind." - Dead End

Way back when, I thin kthere was a question of why Lindsay brought back Spike. Methinks he was manipulating him to kill Angel.

If Angel and Co. hadn't figured out about the whole Lindsey/Doyle thing Spike might have done it too. Lindsey almost got Spike to kill Cordy. Spike bit her because Lindsey told him she was evil.
