EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Cleveland @ Toronto Terry Mulholland vs. Roy Halladay. Roy Halladay gets one more shot at 22 wins, and a club record. Atlanta @ Philadelphia Mike Hampton vs. Amaury Telemaco. The Braves seek home field advantage. They're up by two wins over the Giants. Pittsburgh @ Chicago Cubs Josh Fogg vs. Mark Prior. Ryan Vogelsong vs. Matt Clement. Let's try this again. The Cubs are a half game up on the Astros. A sweep, and they go into Sunday at least a game up. A Cubs sweep combined with an Astros loss, and you can pop the cork. Milwaukee @ Houston Wes Obermueller vs. Ron Villone. Yes, the Astros are pitching Ron Villone. The Cubs have to be salivating at this one. Still, if Shawn Estes can do it..... Los Angeles @ San Francisco Edwin Jackson vs. Jerome Williams. Masao Kida vs. Dustin Hermanson. Giants competing for home field advantage. Of course with Dustin Hermanson on the mound, I don't think the Giants are putting much stock in home field advantage. Minnesota @ Detroit Brad Radke vs. Gary Knotts. 119 and counting. St. Louis @ Arizona Sterling Hitchcock vs. Chris Capuano. Since I'm cheating a little bit on the timing of these posts, I don't know who won Friday's game yet. As of this writing, the D'backs are up 2 after 7. If the Cards lost, then forget about this game. But if they won, then the Cardinals live another day. Even if they survived, they still need Houston and Chicago to lose every game. Games that don't matter Texas @ Anaheim NY Mets @ Florida Montreal @ Cincinnati Colorado @ San Diego Chicago White Sox @ Kansas City Boston @ Tampa Bay Oakland @ Seattle Baltimore @ NY Yankees
Guest Bobby Cox is God Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 I hope Mullholland wins, not because I hate Halladay but I have loved him since I was a little kid. Why? God knows, but he's always been one of my favorites.
JangoFett4Hire Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Whoa. When did Harmanson go to SF, and when did Hitchcock go to St Louis?
KingPK Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Games that don't matter Boston @ Tampa Bay Well......the race for the AL batting title continues. Of course, I'll bet that neither Meuller or Ramirez will get many at-bats over the next two days.
The Czech Republic Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Cubs are about to win one and Houston's about to lose one...
Guest Bobby Cox is God Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Well the Giants lost so the Braves have home field. Wee hoo, kill the fags baby. And as of right now the Tigers are losing 8-0.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Detroit may win this game.. It was 8-1 and then they scored 7 runs in the 7th and 8th, and they have a runner on second and one out in the bottom of the 9th..
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 28, 2003 Author Report Posted September 28, 2003 And the Tigers have WON!
MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 (edited) TIGERS WIN! TIGERS WIN! TIGERS WIN! Alex Sanchez scored from 3rd on a wild pitch Edited September 28, 2003 by MarvinisaLunatic
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 28, 2003 Author Report Posted September 28, 2003 Walked, stole second, stole third, scored on wild pitch. Talk about winning a game by yourself. The Tigers just need to win tomorrow to avoid tying the loss record. It should be noted that they will NOT beat the '62 Mets record for worst win pct.
CanadianChris Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 What a bunch of losers. Can't even lose enough to put themselves in the record books. They blew it.
The Czech Republic Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 What a bunch of losers. Can't even lose enough to put themselves in the record books. They blew it. I know right? At some point you'd think they'd just stop caring and let themselves be the worst team ever.
Vern Gagne Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Are they still playing that makeup game Monday? Between the Giants and Mets.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 28, 2003 Author Report Posted September 28, 2003 No they aren't. San Francisco will concede home field advantage to avoid playing the game, and the commissioner's office has concured. Makes sense, as the Giants would have to fly cross county for one game before flying back to start the Marlins series the very next day.
the pinjockey Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Couple notes from the Phillies game: I found it unbelievably fitting that it rained during the introduction of the All-Vet Team today. Also, kids today, are retarded. This one kid was yelling "You Pussy". I would have had the shit smacked out of me if I said that when I was 12. And Pat Burrell, is doomed next year if he gets off to a slow start. As are Jimmy Rollins and Bobby Abreu.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 28, 2003 Author Report Posted September 28, 2003 I'm not going to write a full baseball preview for tomorrow. The only meaningful games are the Atlanta and San Francisco games, and even that's only if the Giants win game 2 tonight. Tomorrow, I suggest watching your favorite non-playoff team for the last time this season. Also, the very last game in Veterans' Stadium history is tomorrow. See the last game of a dying relic before it is mercifully destroyed.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 28, 2003 Author Report Posted September 28, 2003 Is Bobby Abreu having a bad season? He's doing perfectly well from my vantage point. Jimmy Rollins is a special case. First off, he contributes a great deal with the glove. And for another thing, he's stilll better now than Larry Bowa ever was. Pat Burrell is going to have to hit, because there's no way the Phillies are getting rid of his contract.
the pinjockey Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 I think people (myself included) are just tired of Rollins style of thinking his warning track power makes him a power hitter. Abreu only got a smattering of boos, but I think the underlying theme with him is underachiever. I have accepted he is a .300/25/100/25 guy so it doesn't bother me. The kid who sat next to me today hated him. When Abreu was announced as the All-Vet RF he went nuts. I tried to explain to him that he is in the top 10 all time games played in the Vet and has played well, but he was having none of it.
the max Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 I wonder if we're getting the Phillies game down here. I know we have the Marlins game, which I'll be watching, but I think we have a west coast game on later in the afternoon.

These people need to piss off and realize that they should be happy with what they have. Abreu walks 100 times a year. The only other players with streaks that long now are Jason Giambi and Jim Thome. He puts up a .400 OBP every year. He hits for power. He steals bases. The man does everything well, and yet the Phillie fans want more. According to Win Shares, he's the 7th most valuable player in the National League. What more do the fans want?

The second coming of Mike Schmidt. Oh, wait, they booed Schmidt, too.
