GI JOE: Spy Troops

Recommended Posts

Cartoon Network ran the one hour long GI JOE: Spy Troops movie last night and I was pretty impressed.

It was all CGI but it was done well and the fights between Storm Shadow and Snake Eye owned and made Snake Eye to be a badass. All the characters where their and they stayed true to the form except Destro looked a little more juiced.

I watched for a few minutes, but I couldn't get past the CGI. I know it looks better from a technical standpoint, but I just would hate to be a kid today. Maybe it's just the nostalgia in me, but the cartoons from "my day" were ya know, cartoons and while they weren't quality all the time, they still had that charm that these new CGI shows just don't offer.

Kids today get the short end of the stcik. While we had quality animated shows like G.I. Joe or Transformers, kids todday get Powerpuff Girls or Samurai Jack (sp?).

Samurai Jack is one of the greatest shows TV has had in a long, long time. I wouldn't really call it a "kid's show". Because kids haven't been around long enough on the planet I don't think they could truly appreciate the greatness of this show.

Kids today have good shows. You just have to look for them.

I taped it, but haven't watched it yet. I saw the first five minutes or so, and frankly, I'm not sure what to think. The CGI's okay, but I don't know if I like the storyline (all five minutes I saw of it) or the voice acting. Maybe once I see the complete product I'll have a more positive view.

One minor gripe - Beachhead is NOT an enthusiastic fun-loving guy. Beachhead is a tough-as-nails, could-be-the-son-of-R-Lee-Ermey drill sergeant who will gladly kick your teeth down your throat for the slightest hint of insubordination.

Oh, and Samurai Jack rules all.
