King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Over here in good old Blighty, all the music critics seem to be raving about The Darkness. Some claim it's part of a rock revolution back over here. If you haven't heard of them, The Darkness play an 80's style rock...think AC/DC. They have Kerrang awards, and are tipped for a Mercury Music Prize. But are they well known over in America yet? And are they any good in your opinion. I was brought up with the old rock like Queen, AC/DC and The Rolling Stones by my dad, so I like them. But then again, they started up in the same county I live in, so I'm a little bias. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2003 I think that maybe I've read about them, but that's about it. I'm yet to hear them.
Guest Doyo Report post Posted September 30, 2003 I hadn't heard of them, but a quick check at amazon.com reveals that they currently have the 383rd best selling cd on there, which is pretty good for something that is not on the radio or mtv. Their album came out here in the usa on September 16, 2003. Allmusic.com gives their album 4 stars. I'll go see if I can download some. This cover looks like something from the 70s:
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 30, 2003 That's a horrible album cover. Is that a naked chick guiding a spaceship to land? Yes, yes it is. I've never heard them and am not forming an opinion until I hear something, but that cover is dumb.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2003 It's dumb party music basically. Like if Andrew WK decided to form a Queen tribute band. For those looking to download, the singles are: I Believe In A Thing Called Love, Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman and Growing On Me. Worth a listen, but don't take it too seriously... Guest Dave O'Neill, Journalist Report post Posted September 30, 2003 Well, I'm near enought to the UK to say that I absolutely hate them. And they need a dentist...stat
Guest Doyo Report post Posted October 1, 2003 music sounded good, but the vocals made me laugh out loud. freddy mercury he isn't.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 They are an absolutely tremendous live experience, and yeah, I don't like to admit it now that everybody and his mother has the album, but yeah, I enjoy it.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 They rock, and wearing a Darkness t-shirt helped me pull on Monday.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 2, 2003 If it wasn't for the awful terrible vocals they could be good. It's like listening to a tone deaf power metal singer. I hate all high pitched screeching vocals, even those considered to be good.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 Actually, he's a great singer. When they covered 'Street Spirit' (yep) at Glastonbury everyone was just dreading him murdering the chorus, but when he hit that note and held it, fuck.
Guest BAR Report post Posted October 3, 2003 My friends are into them big. One of them even got the singers plectrum at the gig they did here a few weeks ago. Not my cup of tea though.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 3, 2003 He's actually a good singer? Wow...well then it's too bad he decided to sound like shit on the CD.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 Not seeing that really. If you watch a live performance or see one of their videos, it becomes harder to hate them, trust me.
Guest Doyo Report post Posted October 7, 2003 Turned on the radio earlier and immediately heard "BWAALALAAAAA... GUITARRR!" and it was one of their songs. I must say it was good to hear a guitar solo on "alternative" radio.
