Hello all,

I know I never sign on here anymore but if I had more net access I would! Anyway Im starting my new band, Suspended Zen, and two weeks into it here is a progress report.

Its just me(vocals) and my guitarist so far but my guitarists dad has a studio so we plan to record in the very near future. So far weve written two songs(one very heavy metal, the other is metallica/Sanitarium-ish) and have started work on several other, some mellower songs.

Ill try to let ya'll know when I get any recording done or any progress made. And Ill post some lyrics as well when I get the chance.

Thanks fer readin.

The name is terrible. Just an observation.

Hey, I was just giving an unbiased opinion, and I'm not your mother.

Do your lyrics deal with zen at all? How about suspending anything? Is there an eastern influence? If so, then by all means, continue forth with the name you have, if not, maybe find one that suits the music you're playing a bit better.

If you're reacting like that to someone commenting honestly about the name, how are you going to take it when someone criticises the music?

In addition, if you're planning on doing something mainstream, think of something short and catchy that will sound cool on the radio, like "AC/DC" or "Megadeth."

Nah, that's already a punk band, I think.

How about Snuffbox?

There's plenty of bands and songs with box in the name, like. Candlebox, Box of Frogs, Alice in Chains "Man in the Box"..the list goes on.

And Snuff, like killing. It's a kill-box, that's got metal all over it. Especially something more mid-tempo and mainstreamish.

My first band was called Snuffbox, but Ive retired that thing entirely.

While the songs currently being written will (hopefully) be melodic/catchy, Im not too concerned with the mainstream sound. I have access to the free studio so I feel that I can kinda call my own shots, write and record what I want.

Yes, some but not all, of the lyrics do relate to some spirituality but not preachy ala Creed. Its rather abstract and and there are Eastern influences, literary influences, political, counterculture life, and social commentative influences and meanings to the lyrics.

The name kinda means 'a struggled search for a Zen that may or may not arrive'. Not necessarilly all spiritual, but also the angst, happiness, journey, and philosophy of life.

And I DO appreciate the feedback/criticism. Thank you.
