Note that even with today's expected loss, Nintendo still expects to post a net profit of 60 billion yen ($540 million) for the year ending March 2004. And that means the Big N is still doing fine. So Mario, Link, and my precious precious Pikachu aren't going the way of Sega anytime soon.

So, it's not all bad. Though to be honest, it's probably the GBA pulling in most, if not all, of those profits.

I thin it's real impressive that they had never been in the red before now.

It doesn't matter, it's just one of those things.

They better hope the PSP doesn't cut into their GBA profits though...

Then they'll either go the way of Sega or have a reality check and see that they can't rely on the kids' market forever?

Seeing as Yamauchi's no longer in the company, the scale isn't completely tipped to the left. Not completely... *sigh*.

I can't imagine why anyone would think this is good news, Nintendo is the only company who actually built their reputation on great games and great games alone. Sony and Microsoft are just media conglomerates who muscled their way in.

On one hand...I agree with you 100%

BUT

As a game fan...Nintendo is easily the least gamerfriendly to me. They won't do Online, they lose their third party support and their first party games (while I still think they are great) just don't come out quick enough leaving HUGE voids in my Gamecube playing/purchasing plan.

I have a GBA too...so I support the Big N...

But XBox has 90% of the future releases that excite me.

They might have lost money but compared with how much Microsoft is losing on the X Box..

I still dont get the whole online thing either.

X Box has the best online setup, but you need a broadband connection. Many people don't have broadband. Sony has both regular modem and broadband connections but fewer online games. And the Gamecube has both adapters as well (broadband and modem) but they might as well not even bothered releasing them.

And since they dropped GC prices to $99, sales have quadrupled.

It's probably worth pointing out that while Nintendo have lost a little money, that's nothing compared to the lossesd Microsoft is making, and Sony as a whole is losing money hand over fist - last year it was so bad that their stock plummetted to its lowest value in thirty years and all the investors got piss scared.

So it's all relative. And you can guarantee that, having already incurred a loss, you can kiss goodbye to any hope of seeing Nintendo online (which, in actuality, is a good thing).
