nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Most fans have been there longer and gone through more than any of the current players, so it is "we". The players come and go, but the fans remain. The moment you are at the plate and touch the ball in a game, it is not "we". It is "they". -=Mike If it's touching the plate, shouldn't people like Byrnes not be allowed to say "we" then? Because if he had, this whole riot debate wouldn't of ever happened. UNLESS YOU'RE PLAYING, IT IS NOT "WE". -=Mike ...Not exactly rocket science here I was just busting balls with the Byrnes comment. I can discern between who's a player and who's a fan. It was just too easy of a comment to resist. I actually agree with the whole "we" thing when it comes to sports. A few months ago I had a pretty heated debate with someone on this board (ghettoman, maybe? definitely a Yankees fan) because they were talking about "their World Championships" which I thought was a farce. Hell, I even agree that the rioting was a dumbass idea. I don't even like it when people riot for World Championships, let alone winning a 1st round of a playoffs. Still, though, it's hard not to think that you're busting such balls about the 'riot' or about the usage of "we" because you're pissed that your team lost. JangoFett4Hire 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 That might well be the saddest thing I've ever read in my life. The saddest thing I've ever read was in the Love and Dating folder... some dude bitching that his girlfriend would whack the hell out of him, and asked for advice... That's infinetely sadder... at least Revere has Kelly's Roast Beef, nothing sad about that.

I'm not a big baseball fan, so it's not like I personally care. I don't like the A's, either. Guest MikeSC Report post Posted October 9, 2003 Hey Mike, how's that sweep going for you? Seeing as how I've yet to watch a moment of baseball since about June or so, couldn't tell you (and, judging by ratings, I'm hardly alone). Not a baseball fan. Ask me about football and you might have a discussion. Even worse, like most of the country, I don't care. Boston could make the World Series --- and it would STILL get crap ratings. But, odds of them making it are still REALLY slim. -=Mike
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 Ratings are up 21% this postseason, and Boston would draw huge ratings if they made the World Series.
Guest Wildbomb 4:20 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 I live in this wonderful city of Boston. After Game 5, there was *not* what anyone should call a riot. One overturned car, which was from New York with an anti-Sox bumper sticker. Two girls flashed the crowd. Whoop de doo. It was nowhere class to what happened out at ZooMass-Amherst. Tonight, there were a few of us out on Beacon Street who celebrated by hanging out, and people chanting "Let's Go Red Sox" and started singing "Dirty Water." Big deal. I am sick of hearing how certain city's sports fans are more passionate than anybody elses. BoSox fans are some of the most diehard in the country; the stretches of futility are amazing. We are one of the few groups of fans where a 90 win season is disappointing because our team still finished behind the Yankees. So when our team comes back, in the face of a media that had written our team off, the fans celebrated. Some more ruly than others, but it was a celebration. If anything, it will be the World Series that brings this city down. And oh, you heard it here first: Marlins-Red Sox series. Marlins take NLCS in 7, BoSox grab the ALCS in 5. Cartman 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 Game 5 of the Oak/Sox series drew the second highest rating in history for the Boston area. It Fell about a thousand people short of the 2001 Super Bowl! Game 5 of Sox/A's outdrew MNF this week, I believe MNF drew better than a 10. A's/Sox drew an 8 something, I think. There is no "spat" here. Boston isn't quite America, hate to burst your bubble. The rest of the country couldn't conceivably give LESS of a darn about this series. It drew a, what, 47 in Boston --- but an 8 something NATIONALLY. In simple terms, 8% of all TV's in the country were watching. That'd be like Tennessee bragging that Volunteer football games draw HUGE ratings in the state of Tennessee. Boston drew good ratings IN BOSTON? GET THE HECK OUTTA TOWN! MLB ratings are, and I'll quote you here, "blowing everything away"? News to the Nielsen company. And the networks. -=Mike
KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 Well, ratings for the Championship Series are up more than 50% from last year. Ok, ok, that may be because the teams in it aren't the Angels or the Twins, but people are getting back into baseball because of this postseason. A Sox/Cubs WS would do gangbusters, if only for the people who want to see Sox and Cubs fans voluntarily go through such torture.

A Sox/Cubs WS would do gangbusters, if only for the people who want to see Sox and Cubs fans voluntarily go through such torture. Heck, I was ROOTING for Boston v Chicago. Then, I realized that if Boston made it, the city would cease to be standing. And while rampant destruction of major northeastern cities is entertainment in its own right, that most Boston fans REVEL in it makes me wish to see them fail (yet again) in their pursuit. The ironic thing here is that I actually PREFER Boston to the Yanks. I just think both teams have jack-ass fans. -=Mike
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 As a big-time Bronco hater that was living in Colorado when they were winning Super Bowls, the only thing that made it Ok for me was watching their idiot fans riot in downtown Denver, and getting tear gassed and everything. So it's not like it's just us in the Northeast that tear their city down to celebrate. We just do it early and often.

Dollar Bill = good for 4 quarters... Oh, and since you're just a football fan, how does it feel knowing that the Pats have more championships than you?
