EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Since all the other A's/Sox threads are filled with petty bickering and name calling, I figured I'd open a new thread for my thoughts. -First off, I don't think the A's losing streak is anything more than bad luck. They keep losing in game 5, and its always close. They just don't get the breaks. -The A's will be back. Hudson, Mulder, Zito, and Harden are as good a front four as anyone else's in the game. -Some of the back and forth between teams gets ridiculous sometimes. Don't worry about the other team so much. Yeah, I'm refering to the A's more, but the Sox are guilty of their share. -How's this for an ALCS prediction? Sox in 7, beating Roger Clemens in his retirement game, in Yankee Stadium. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Didn't the A's blow the same 2 games to 0 lead LAST YEAR? That's not bad luck...That's bad baseball. They've blown chances to win the first series for like...4 years now
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Two years ago, they didn't go up 2-0 on the Twins.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 No...but they did have a chance to end the series...and lost.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Yes Four Years now, all in the ALDS (00, 01 TO Yankees and last year to Minn and this year to Boston) I believe three of those they went up 2-0 only to fall. So far aside from the Yankees/Twins series, it's been great dramatic baseball and it's certaintly been emotional for anyone who knows the history of the sox or the Cubs or the underdogness of Florida... The A's/Sox was something of magic and I strongly believe it'll be remembered for years to come, and the scary thing is? Yanks/Sox or Cubs/Sox or CubsYanks will be more likely even MORE dramatic... Scary shit folks...
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Oh this has been the best first round I can remember. And with the unlikely Cubs/Marlins in the NL and the bloodfeud between Yanks/Sox in the AL... It's only getting better. I just hope the Series isn't Yanks/Marlins...because even if the Marlins win and the series is great...I think it'll be missing something if one of the two hardluck teams isn't going for the gold. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think any series can top that one. They were just evenly matched to start.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 8, 2003 If there wasn't any doubt...Bos/Oakland just might be a hot new blood fued...
Cartman 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 If there wasn't any doubt...Bos/Oakland just might be a hot new blood fued... Yea except because of the retard unbalanced schedule they play each other like 6 to 9 times or so a year. AND Tejada may not be there next year...and Miggy seems to be King Crybaby of the team. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 So far aside from the Yankees/Twins series, I apologize for the Twins performance. It's too bad they couldn't make it somewhat of a series.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 For those worried about the A's losing Miguel Tejada, I'd like to point out that Bobby Crosby hit .308 in AAA, with 22 home runs, 24 steals, and 63 walks.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 If that's in the hitter friendly Pacific Coast league than the numbers are somewhat deceiving.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Yes its a hitter friendly league, but 20/20 with plate patience is good no matter where you play.
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted October 8, 2003 The A's actually got up to a 2-1 lead last year, the Twins won game 1.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 I think the A's need to look into expanding their offense more. Sacrifice bunt more often, don't be afraid to steal, or hit and run.
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Billy Beane feels that shows that you are just scared to see what the outcome would be.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Attention MLB gurus: Where would Tejada (sp?) go? I keep hearing Oakland won't re-sign him, which I believe. However, a lot of big-money teams already have All-Star shortstops. Just curious if any teams have already expressed interest in him yet...
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted October 8, 2003 KKK........some rumors have mentioned LA.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 I've heard Anaheim. He's a playoff choker anyways.
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Eh, there's no such thing as a clutch hitter. Unless you're Jack Clark.

Bored 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Yes Four Years now, all in the ALDS (00, 01 TO Yankees and last year to Minn and this year to Boston) I believe three of those they went up 2-0 only to fall. Two of them were. In 2000 they forced Game 5 with a win Game 4 to tie the series. This year and 2001 were the 2-0 failures and last year they lost the first game, won two, and then lost two. I think Al is right with bad luck. Think about it the team's last World Series win was overshadowed by an earthquake so didn't really get to celebrate that one. They are definently still a winning team next year and the year after that with the Big Three still around but unless Steve Schott (A's owner) finally stops worrying about making a profit only and at least gives the A's an average payroll (fat chance) they aren't going to be getting any better. treble 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Baltimore's going to try and spend a lot this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a run at Tejada or Guerrero.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 I'd love for the Phillies to go after Guererro, but I don't know if they could make it work financially.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Tejada will be best served to go to the National to get away from the Arod/Jeter/Nomar triangle... L.A? Likely but Chicago could for once spend some money...
treble 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Why, they already have a perfectly good one in Alex Gonzalez and they're farther along than Tejada took the A's. I know Gonzalez doesn't stack up to Tejada offensively, but he's one of the better defensive shortstops out there.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 I'd love for the Phillies to go after Guererro, but I don't know if they could make it work financially. It could work financially, but it wouldn't make any sense. The Phillies have $12 million tied at each of the corner outfield spots.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 How about speculating on where free agents might go? I believe Mike Lowell is a free agent, isn't he? Also Vlad, Sheffield, Tejada, Keith Foulke, Bartolo Colon, Andy Pettitte, and Kevin Millwood.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 Well, I'd do it because Vlad >>> Abreu. Gives you insurance in case (heaven forbid) Burrell can't pull it together. If he does, then you've got Burrell, Thome, Vlad in the 3-4-5 spot (not necessarily in that order), freeing up Abreu as trade bait. Get Vlad, a starter, and a closer, and there's no way they miss the playoffs.
