PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 Suppose you were the owner of some building or complex area and you wanted to hold a wrestling show, how much would it cost to get a promotion to come to your building and perform? Depends on the size and location of the venue and the promotion really.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Report post Posted October 15, 2003 Well, how about a small promotion. Hmm.....how small? Well, at least smaller than CZW and ROH. You may think those are pretty big, compared to others, so imagine CZW as being WWE Attitude Era compared to this promotion.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 Most wrestling shows pay rent to the building owners, not the other way around.
Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Well, I know Racks paid CZW to run there, and the show a couple weeks ago at the car dealership CZW was paid to run, so you never know. I'm guessing a flat sum to the fed and the owner of the venue gets the gate and concessions or something.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I would imagine so since the fed would most likely want the guaranteed money instead.
Guest Shane Legend Report post Posted October 16, 2003 man, why cant I have this problem - I'm having a bitch of a time finding a venue for my shows!
Jingus 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 That's rarely how it works, though. That kind of show is called a "bought show", and is a highly coveted but seldom occuring thing in wrestling, at least 'round these parts. I've worked a couple hundred shows now, and only four or five have been bought shows. The vast majority of the time, the wrestling company pays the building owner, and then the promotion keeps the gate money. Concessions is different in every building, sometimes the building gets it, sometimes the promotion.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 In that case, wouldn't his best bet be to get the word out to any nearby promotions that he's willing to rent this place out for less then he should? Like, if a fair price on the building is, say, $300 a night (I have no idea what the rates are anything like) and he says "wrestling shows can rent for $150", don't you think that'd help him out? Guest RickyB Report post Posted October 16, 2003 All depends really. You COULD get a promotion (very small... pretty much JUST above backyard) to do a show for you for nothing, just as long as you sorted out all the expenses for the show then you could easy do it. Only problem with this is that you won't be sure whether all the Wrestlers are trained. But you usually get that with small indys neways. Good Look
Guest bigdunn20 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 There are also bar shows, which generally give the building to the promotion for free, but keep bar and food revenue. Sadly, sold shows aren't around much anymore. In the year 2000, Ken Patera ran 45 shows in MN and WI, and all of them were sold. Nowadays, except for very few casinos and fairs, no one LIKES wrestling, let alone is willing to put up $3,000-$5,000 to buy a show.
