Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2004 I don't have loyalty because neither team has given me a reason. My first team traded me away practically in my first season. Memphis hasn't given me a reason to want to stay till this season (and we don't make the playoffs, I don't blame myself for leaving). And I was kiding about the team comparisons. I just want myself to get some playoff exposure.
Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 2, 2004 The Elimination Number (More Useless Shit From Evo) Copied from MLB.com's standings, the elimination number is the combined number of wins from the first place team and losses from the trailing team to eliminate the trailing team from playoff contention. East Team W L GB E# Baltimore 74 57 -- -- Boston 74 57 -- -- New York 65 66 9 23 Philadelphia 65 66 9 23 New Jersey 59 72 15 17 West Team W L GB E# Denver 74 57 -- -- Las Vegas 66 65 8 24 Phoenix 64 67 10 22 Seattle 64 67 10 22 Los Angeles 50 81 24 8 North Team W L GB E# Columbus 72 57 -- -- Detroit 66 65 6 26 Indianapolis 63 68 9 23 Chicago 57 74 15 17 Vancouver 53 78 19 13 South Team W L GB E# Jacksonville 77 54 -- -- Atlanta 76 55 1 31 Memphis 76 55 1 31 Charlotte 65 66 12 20 Houston 50 81 27 5 The standings are a little jumbled (copied from Excel), so allow me to explain. Houston has the best chance of being eliminated from the playoffs, as Jacksonville either has to win five games, Houston has to lose five games, or a combination of both needs to occur from them to be eliminated. Theoretically, next in line would be Los Angeles, needing only 8 wins by the Douchebags or 8 losses from the Glory Holes to eliminate THEM. Yeah, it doesn't really mean much, just giving me an idea of what teams are truly, truly awful and which are kind hanging around and are still somewhat in contention. Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 2, 2004 If only the wildcard mattered. With September done and only a few games in October remaining, how close is it? Well, Denver and Columbus have wrapped things up and clinched their divisions. However, in the East and South, it's different: East Team W L PCT GB Boston 91 67 .576 - Baltimore 89 69 .563 2.0 South Team W L PCT GB Jacksonville 93 65 .589 - Memphis 92 66 .582 1.0 Atlanta 91 67 .576 2.0 The story of the year is this. Memphis is on a ten game winning streak and are now poised to strike at Jacksonville. Jacksonville is on a 4 game winning streak themselves, though. Atlanta is in a minor slump with a 2-game losing streak, but three victories here could mean all the difference.

Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 2, 2004 October 1st - October 4th, 2012 Key Matchups Baltimore Crime Spree at Philadelphia Freedom - Charlie Matthews and the Freedom will be attempting to stop Boston's bid at a miracle season with a victory here to keep themselves close in the standings. New York Bums at Boston Tea Baggers - Meanwhile, Boston will be hoping for a Baltimore loss that will guarantee a one-game playoff if they can defeat the Bums, which is a very likely feat. Vancouver Vasectomy at Atlanta Hanoi Janes - Huge, huge, huge. Well-known loser Tito Aquino goes up against 15-12 Eric LeBeau, who is pitching the biggest game of his career--if Atlanta loses and Jacksonville wins, the pressure will be on Atlanta to win all of their games and hope that Jacksonville falters. Columbus Pride at Memphis Eels - The North Division Champions travel down to Memphis for what is sure to be a clash of the titans as these two teams lock horns. ACE Claudio Galaviz is on the mound for Memphis with a 25-3 record, while Felix Rodas--who's no chump himself--will face off against Galaviz for the Pride. Chicago Transit Authority vs. Jacksonville Jackoffs -- Daniel Estill, old fogey extraordinaire and George Alongi, phenom, face off here in one of three matinee games today. So, what's the order of play today? Jacksonville/Chicago - 1:05 PM EST Columbus/Memphis - 1:05 PM EST Baltimore/Philadelphia - 4:05 PM EST Vancouver/Atlanta - 7:05 PM EST New York/Boston - 7:05 PM EST So, if Atlanta has a chance to stay in the race, they'll know long before they throw the first pitch in Atlanta. Once Boston takes the field, they'll likely have an idea if they can lock up a playoff spot or not. These five games will be played in order (ignoring the other meaningless games of Los Angeles/Las Vegas, Phoenix/Seattle, Denver/New Jersey, Indianapolis/Houston, and Charlotte/Detroit for now), and I will give little blurbs on each of them. Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Chicago Transit Authority at Jacksonville Jackoffs Daniel Estill may be thirty-six years old, but the man can still pitch a mean game. And after five and a half innings, the Transit Authority had finally cracked 28 year old George Alongi for two runs. Meanwhile, the Jackoffs had only cracked one hit off Estill. The RBI single from Nathan Smith and the sacrifice RBI groundout from Roy Aliff gave Chicago the lead that they hoped would stay strong. Alongi left in the top of the 7th as it was clear that the game would not be turned around while Alongi was on the mound. Vernon Duran came on and didn't falter until the top of the 8th. Then Vernon made a no-no. After allowing an RBI single from Bill Betts to make the score 3-0, Samuel Sainz hit a sacrifice fly to score Betts, leaving runners on first and second with two outs. Vernon Duran was finished, but Raul Carrera was only beginning. With that, he gave up a 3-run homerun to Reuben Sanders, silencing the Jacksonville fans with one swipe of the bat and giving Chicago an amazing 7-0 lead against the stellar pitching staff of Jacksonville. Vernon Duran had allowed the baserunners on, but Carrera had given up the homerun. It was a team effort to blow it wide open for Chicago. A wild pitch from Daniel Estill in the bottom of the 9th scored Winston Ghandi, and was enough to finally convince the coach that it was time to get rid of Estill. And with that, Richard Quinonez went to the mound with two outs and promptly got Cletus McClain to strike out swinging, ending the game with an exclamation point! CHICAGO 7, JACKSONVILLE 1 Standings as of 4:23 PM EST South Team GB Jacksonville -- Memphis 0.5 Atlanta 1.5 Columbus Pride at Memphis Eels - Memphis now had a chance to win their 11th game in a row and tie Jacksonville for the division lead. But they had no idea going onto the field that this was the case. And despite being down 2-0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, when the score of 2-0 Chicago displayed on the big screen in Grand Ole Park, the Memphis fans went nuts and got behind their team. Columbus added another run in the top of the 7th, but the seventh inning stretch (sung by country superstar Lacey Jewell, daughter of famed country star Buddy Jewell) and the score of 7-0 Chicago ignited a fire under the Eels as they struck for two runs on Robert Guarino's two-run homerun into the seats. Three more runs in the top of the eighth couldn't dampen spirits, as Memphis fans continued to have faith in their team, and besides, they would still only be one game behind if Memphis lost tonight. But they were thinking "W". And as "Chicago 7, Jacksonville 1. Final" displayed on the JumboTron, Memphis fans knew the time to strike the iron was hot, hot, hot. But who would stop Memphis from partying because of a tie with Jacksonville in the standings of the South Division? Peter Kostka. Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 2, 2004 Baltimore Crime Spree at Philadelphia Freedom - After faltering and losing their lead in the East Division, Baltimore now has a chance to come back. Philadelphia made sure that there would be no chance of a comeback. A 6-run inning put Philadelphia up and Baltimore down for good, as Philadelphia rolled to victory 12-6 over the Crime Spree, ensuring Boston at least a one-game playoff against the Crime Spree with a victory tonight. Jed Goude drove in 3 and Jeffrey Trommetter added three more as Philadelphia embarrassed the Crime Spree at the Stadium of Independence. PHILADELPHIA 12, BALTIMORE 6 New York Bums at Boston Tea Baggers -- They had it. They really had it. With a 4-2 lead after three innings, Henry Devleeschouwer hit a 2-run homerun to tie the game in the top of the 6th and then singled home a run to give New York a 5-2 lead. Boston struck back and had the lead again in the bottom of the 8th, with the score 6-5. Top of the 9th, Boston was three outs away from ensuring at least a one-game playoff for the East Division title. Yeah, Henry Devleeschouwer did it again. A double to the gap in right scored two runs and put New York up 7-6, and Boston was frozen in the bottom of the 9th. NEW YORK 7, BOSTON 6 Standings at the end of Monday, October 1st: East Team GB Boston -- Baltimore 2 Vancouver Vasectomy at Atlanta Hanoi Janes It's that time again. Time for the Atlanta fans to wonder if their hearts will be broken once again or if it is finally time for redemption. For at least one more day, Atlanta fans would be thinking redemption. Behind the strength of two doubles from Jose Santillo and a homerun by Steve Hatfield, not to mention an 8 1/3 inning gem from Eric LeBeau, Atlanta scored a huge 3-0 victory over the Vancouver Vasectomy, inching within one game of the defending SFBL Champion Jacksonville Jackoffs in the South and entering a tie with the Memphis Eels for second place. Eric LeBeau only gave up four hits in his 113 pitch performance, striking out 8 in eight and one-third innings and earning the player of the game award after Rolf Dreikugeln finished the last two-thirds of the game. Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2004 Sweet phancy (That's how the cool kids spell it) Moses, Atlanta really needs to win this thing. I mean, since 2003, Atlanta has come in second at least six times (I say at least six because for 2006, Duran didn't post the South division standings) and behind Jacksonville (This includes when we came in 3rd and such) six times (I know that Jacksonville won the South in 06. Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 3, 2004 Boston Tea Baggers at Baltimore Crime Spree Boston had the chance to clinch their first East Division title in three years, all they had to do was win a game in the wild Penitentary, with a solid starter in Amos McKenney (12-9, 4.66 ERA). Yes, Miguel Moldonado was on the mound for Boston, but would he be able to come through when Boston needed him the most? Frank Vierra busted open the game in the top of the 5th after four innings of a straight-up pitcher's duel, singling down the left field line to score Anderson Goers from third and making the score 1-0 in the favor of the Tea Baggers. In the bottom of the 6th, Zoilo Castillo opened up on Miguel Moldonado, hitting a sacrifice fly to bring home Jayson Hudock (who advanced to third after a wild pitch from Moldonado earlier in the at-bat), tying up the game at 1-1 through six full innings. Moldonado and McKenney both closed the doors after that, innings passing and ticking away. Finally, in the bottom of the eighth, Zoilo Castillo did it again. After Luis Moreno was able to steal second, Castillo laced a double to the gap in left-center, scoring Moreno easily as Baltimore moved up 2-1, igniting the sellout Crime Spree fans into a frenzy. Moldonado remained in the game and got out of the eighth inning, but was currently being credited with the loss...unless the Tea Baggers could fight back. And fight back they did. After Raimundo Robledo went down swinging, Thomas Lipps hit one of the biggest homeruns of his career, hitting a solo homerun to deep left center, landing 404 feet later to tie the game at 2-all. Two batters later, Amos McKenney was on his way out with a no-decision, and Manuel Hernandez took it from there, getting Anderson Goers to line out to the third baseman to end the top half of the ninth inning. Miguel Moldonado left the mound in the bottom of the 9th after getting Brant Wrankmore, but was replaced by Nicolas Almaraz who took the game into extra innings. In the top of the 10th, an old friend came back to torture Baltimore. Frank Vierra came up big again, blooping a single to left that sent Joe Colopy rounding third and heading for home. Zoilo Castillo, looking to become a hero for the third time over today, threw a bullet to home plate, but the bullet was just a little late and the slide was beautiful as Colopy scored the go-ahead run for the Tea Baggers, putting them up 3-2. In the bottom half of the inning, Warren Lewis hit the mound with the hopes of converting his 40th save. And with that, he hit his zone, mowing down the Crime Spree 1-2-3 as the Baltimore crowd almost had their own prison riot with Boston's victory. As Warren Lewis was swamped on the mound, the choking of the Baltimore Crime Spree had been completed. A lost lead, and when it came right down to it, Boston had it and Baltimore didn't. Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 3, 2004 Memphis Eels at Columbus Pride In what could be a preview of the North-South Conference Championship, Memphis faced off against Columbus again. However, if Memphis wanted to threaten a tie with Jacksonville, they would have to win it at Applewhite Field. Danny Breaux--on the mound for Columbus--was an easy enough challenge, but could Bocefus Longenbach stand up to the offense of Columbus, led by Robert Henderson and Neall Isaacson? Esequiel Acosta quickly broke things open with a leadoff triple in the top of the 1st for Memphis, and Dante Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to right-center, scoring Acosta easily for the first run of the game. Memphis 1, Columbus 0. Breaux continued to show that he was anything but a solid pitcher as Dante Rodriguez singled home another RBI in the form of William Saulsbury, and Robert Guarino followed with a single to centerfield, scoring Esequiel Acosta to make the score 3-0 Memphis. Bocefus Longenbach finally cracked in the bottom of the 4th, giving up a sacrifice grounder to the shortstop that scored Robert Henderson, making the score 3-1. A blooper to short right-center scored Neall Isaacson from third as Memphis lead was shortened to 1, Columbus scoring two runs in the bottom of the 4th to get themselves back in the game. Danny Breaux's last stand came in the top of the 6th, with the bases loaded and Fernando Ornelas at the plate. Ornelas laced a single to center, easily scoring Robert Guarino and Sergio Santana--who beat the throw home from Keith Batke--to make the score 5-2 Memphis. Jesse Holman finally came on in relief, and Manuel Acuna singled to right, scoring Oscar Ortiz and Fernando Ornelas easily as the score climbed to 7-2 Memphis, seemingly putting the game out of reach for Columbus. Keith Batke's RBI single to left field and a throwing error by the Memphis catcher scored Elias Mijares and John Duffner to make the score 7-4 Memphis, as the lead began to fall apart. Bocefus remained in the game, however, a show of faith from the Memphis dugout. Fernando Ornelas did it again in the top of the 8th, hitting a solo homerun to deep left field to make the score 8-4 Memphis, as Columbus would have to claw back harder. Michael Fleming hit a 2-run homerun to deep left-center, scoring him and Salvator Matos and bringing the score to 8-6, as it seemed that Columbus wanted to take this right up to the end, not giving up despite this game meaning something only to Memphis. After an unsuccessful top of the ninth, Memphis took the field with hope that they could put a plug on Columbus and keep them from scoring anymore runs, let alone three that would end the game, and perhaps their season. Robert Henderson grounded out to begin the inning, and Chris Addington hit a big strikeout, fanning Neall Isaacson. With Salvatore Matos as the last remaining hope for Columbus, he smoked a grounder to the shortstop. Acosta had to dive to get it, and the throw from Acosta was...ON TIME! MEMPHIS 8, COLUMBUS 6 Team GB Jacksonville -- Memphis .5 Atlanta 1 Atlanta Hanoi Janes at Vancouver Vasectomy As Memphis played in Columbus, Atlanta traveled all the way the Vancouver to play the Vasectomy, halfway across North America. Stuart Bell was on the mound for Atlanta as they hoped to enter a tie with Jacksonville, having no idea that Memphis would be doing the same thing in three hours. However, Vancouver jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, and though the Hanoi Janes tied the game in the top of the 6th, Robert Mendell untied it for good with a 2-run homerun down the left field line, effectively ending any chance of Atlanta winning an outright division title, now needing a tie with Jacksonville. Donovan Habedank's single to short right-center scored Mikah Zirkwitz in the top of the 7th, putting Jacksonville up for good 5-4. Eugene Widrick added two more homeruns, bringing his total up to 38 as he drove in three runs, earning player of the game for his performance. Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 4, 2004 Charlotte Harlots at Memphis Eels Modesto Lamb was looking to be the spoiler for Memphis' amazing 2012 season tonight as the Harlots came to the Grand Ole Park, looking to stop a hot Memphis team. Syl Gomez lost control early on the mound for Memphis. After giving up two straight walks to start the game, Carl Phillips advanced Joseph Corbin to third with a sacrifice grounder, and Everette Orr sacrificed Corbin home to make the score 1-0 and to put Orr on first. Waverly Whaley then took Syl Gomez yard to make the score 3-0. After Allen Allen grounded out to the shortstop to score Eric Clark and make the score 4-0, Syl Gomez was replaced in the next inning by Carlos Gonsalves, ending a very disappointing outing for Gomez. Gonsalves himself was not invincible, however, as Everette Orr took him deep to right field for a 2-out solo homerun to make the score 5-0. With Modesto Lamb maintaining a no-hitter through four innings at that time, Oscar Ortiz finally broke up the no-hit bid with a single. Ortiz would later score on a Fernando Ornelas single, and Ornelas would score on a sacrifice grounder. Charlotte 5, Memphis 2 with only four more innings to play. Charlotte did not relent, scoring three runs in the top of the 6th as Eric Clark, Travis Kulick, and Allen Allen all crossed the plate for the Harlots as the score was suddenly 8-2, and things were getting out of hand for the Eels to turn things around. The Memphis pitching continued to bleed as Eric Clark hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home Everette Orr to make the score 9-2 as Memphis was coming through with big sacrifice plays to rack up the total, scoring 9 runs on 9 hits. Modesto Lamb was still running strong in the bottom of the 9th as Memphis faced an impossible 7-run deficit, knowing that their season would be in the hands of the Jacksonville Jackoffs if they did not come through. Only 92 pitches young, Lamb forced Robert Guarino to ground out weakly to second base for out #1. Sergio Santana was given a free pass to first base, but Oscar Ortiz flied out to Joseph Boutang for out number two as Sergio Santana was stuck at second. Memphis' control of their destiny rested in the bat of Fernando Ornelas, and on a 1-0 pitch, Ornelas took a swing and skied a can of corn to right-center, the Eels fans in shock and disappointment as Boutang was once again there to make the catch and win the game for Charlotte by a landslide of 9-2. The Charlotte offense had an incredible and unlikely performance at the plate, and Modesto Lamb was as unstoppable as ever. CHARLOTTE 9, MEMPHIS 2 Team GB Jacksonville -- Memphis 1.5 Atlanta 2 Now, in prime time, Jacksonville would have a chance to wrap up the South Division a day early with a victory over long time rivals the Atlanta Hanoi Janes.
