EXPANSION PROPOSAL:

Thanks to Zed (realitycheck), I've come up with this easier to swallow proposal that leaves only Baltimore as a sore thumb in the Central.

East-West Conference

EAST

New York

Philadelphia

Boston

(Expansion) -- Montreal Freedom Fries

CENTRAL

Chicago

Baltimore

Denver

(Expansion) -- Oklahoma

WEST

Phoenix

Los Angeles

Seattle

Las Vegas

North-South Conference

NORTH

Vancouver

Detroit

Columbus

New Jersey

CENTRAL

Houston

Memphis

Indianapolis

(Expansion) -- Kansas City

SOUTH

Atlanta

Charlotte

Jacksonville

(Expansion) -- New Orleans Crunk Machine

If we're all in agreement with this, we can go ahead with the expansion for the 2014 season, once I get some team names and stuff.

And unless we have any better ideas, Montreal, New Orleans, Kansas City and Oklahoma are the final expansion locations.

SFBL Postseason 2013

PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM VS SEATTLE FRASIERS

EAST-WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

GAME 1 - In a very high-scoring affair, Philadelphia piled on the runs early, scoring 12 runs in the first five innings! Seattle tried to rally with a 7-run bottom of the 9th, but the defecit was simply too much as Philadelphia took Game 1 15-11!

Both teams collected 14 hits. R.J. Frost went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI, scoring twice with a 3-run homerun in the 8th inning and a double in the 9th inning. David Hunter went 0-for-5, striking out four times in the leadoff position.

GAME 2 - The scoring was toned down slightly, but the result was the same as Philadelphia once again picked up a victory by four runs, scoring three in the top of the 9th to pad their lead and win 9-5!

Hunter was 0-for-3 once again, but Frost picked up his 2nd homerun of the postseason with a solo shot in the 2nd inning.

GAME 3 - Seattle finally got its revenge, scoring six runs in the top of the 9th and absolutely demolishing Philadelphia 12-3 in Game 3, bringing them back one game in the best-of-7 series! Manny Donato was a homerun away from the cycle for Seattle, but Gary Sites' 3-run homerun in the top of the 7th inning blew open the game for the Frasiers, as Sites is credited for contributing the most to his team, earning Player of the Game honors!

David Hunter picked up his first two hits of the postseason, going 2-for-5 and scoring once with one walk, improving his postseason batting average to .154. R.J. Frost went 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in one run, drawing a walk as his batting average moves to .417.

GAME 4 - Philadelphia rallied late, but Seattle held on to even the best-of-7 series at two games a piece with an 8-7 Game 4 victory. Manny Donato earned Player of the Game for a 3-run homerun in the top of the 4th, going 3-for-5 on the day with 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. R.J. Frost's postseason batting average improved to .438, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI, a walk, and a strikeout. Hunter once again was underwhelming, going 1-for-5 with one run scored and being caught stealing as his batting average moved to .167.

GAME 5 - Seattle finally got some momentum rolling, shutting down Philadelphia early, late, completely, moving up 3-games-to-2 in the series with a 5-0 shutout of the Freedom.

Frost's batting average moved to .350 with a 0-for-4 performance, scoring once on his only walk and striking out once. David Hunter went 1-for-4, drawing a walk and striking out once.

GAME 6 - The series returned to home and the Frasiers fans were getting rowdy, as a 4-spot in the top of the 8th inning from the Freedom is simply not enough, Seattle winning 8-5 and winning the series four games to two, advancing to the SFBL Championship! Frost collected his third homerun of the postseason, his only hit of the game as he went 1-for-4, striking out once. Hunter went 2-for-5 with an RBI (his first RBI of the season).

MEMPHIS EELS VS COLUMBUS PRIDE

NORTH-SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

GAME 1 - Memphis piled on the runs late, winning 7-2 in game 1 with 5 runs in the last three innings.

Robert Henderson went 2-for-3, scoring once and walking once.

GAME 2 - The Memphis pitching continues to hold Columbus' offense to a low score, winning 4-1.

Henderson went 1-for-4, striking out once.

GAME 3 - Big Red got a big 2-run homerun in the top of the 8th to make the score 4-3, but Memphis added on an insurance run and picked up the Game 3 victory 5-3.

Henderson went 3-for-4, scoring once and bringing in two runners, his batting average at .545.

GAME 4 - Columbus avoided the sweep with a 6-3 victory. Henderson went 2-for-2, scoring once and driving in two once again with a solo homerun in the 4th inning, stealing a base as his batting average falls to only .533.

GAME 5 - It took 12 innings, but Columbus once again pulled closer to Memphis with a 3-1 victory in 12 innings over the Eels.

Peter Kostka picked up the save for the Pride, pitching one full inning and allowing only one hit and walking one man.

Big Red went 1-for-4, scoring once, walking once, and striking out once as his average falls to .474.

GAME 6 - Memphis finally put a stop to Columbus' rally, getting a 6-3 victory to win the championship series and advance to the Big Game!

Robert Henderson went 2-for-5 with one RBI, as Columbus' season came to a close.

MEMPHIS EELS VS SEATTLE FRASIERS

2013 SFBL CHAMPIONSHIP

GAME 1 - Seattle makes a dramatic comeback in Game 1, as Carlos Napoles slaps a walk-off two run homerun in the bottom of the ninth, winning the game 6-5.

Frost went 1-for-3, scoring once, and David Hunter went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

GAME 2 - Memphis evened the series 1-1 in equally dramatic fashion, scoring the game-winning run in the top of the 9th on an Esequiel Acosta RBI single.

Frost went 1-for-5, scoring once and driving in two as he scored his 10th RBI of the season with his 4th homerun of the postseason, a 2 run bomb in the 8th inning.

David Hunter went 0-for-4, 1 walk.

GAME 3 - Seattle embarassed the Eels, winning handily 7-0. Frost picked up another three RBI with a three-run homerun off Bocephus Longenbach in the 5th inning, improving his postseason numbers to five homeruns and 14 RBI.

David Hunter went 3-for-5, stealing is first base of the season and scoring two runs with one strikeout.

GAME 4 - Memphis struck back hard with a 13-1 blowout of the Frasiers, holding the Frasiers to only five hits. Frost went 1-for-4, scoring once, David Hunter going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

GAME 5 - Memphis pushed Seattle to the brink of elimination with a 4-3 win, barely holding off Seattle. R.J. Frost and David Hunter both went 1-for-4, with Hunter scoring once and drawing one walk.

Andrew Versace hit a solo homerun in the top of the 9th to make the score 4-3, but couldn't capitalize with David Hunter on first as the tying run and one out, going down in Game 5

GAME 6 - Seattle piled on the drama with a 4-1 victory over the Eels, holding Memphis to one run in the top of the first inning.

David Hunter had the best game of the postseason (for him), going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in. R.J. Frost's batting average fell to .306 with an 0-for-4 day, staying on five homeruns and 14 runs batted in in the postseason.

GAME 7 - Seattle ran out of steam against Claudio Galaviz, losing 5-2 and losing the SFBL Championship to the Eels. R.J. Frost went 1-for-4 in the final game, and Hunter went 0-for-4 as the Memphis pitching staff finally got to the Frasiers when the Eels needed the defense.

April 2014

Awards/SFBL Players In The News:

Shiro Suzuki (PHO) will miss full season

PHOENIX - Phoenix's third baseman Shiro Suzuki suffered a season ending injury when he was struck by a pitch from Las Vegas' John Furmage. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Doctors examined him after the game diagnosed a broken wrist which will require surgery.

Detroit's Logan Caldwell has great day, hits three longballs

VANCOUVER - Detroit beat Vancouver 12-7, but that was not the real story of the game. Logan Caldwell was, as he went deep three times. A pitch from Galvin Blea in the 1st inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 340 feet from home plate in left field. His 2nd shot, a three-run homerun off Galvin Blea in the 5th inning, cleared the fence in left field. A 441 foot drive to left-center marked his 3rd bomb, a GRAND SLAM off Gregory Barker in the 9th inning. Logan went 4 for 6, doubling once, with FOUR runs scored and driving in 8 runs. So far this season he is batting .345 with 3 homers and 15 RBI.

Caldwell (DET) wins P.O.W. award

The North-South's best player of the week was Detroit's Logan Caldwell, who wins the award for the 7th time in his career. Caldwell helped his team with an average of .480 and 21 RBI in 25 at bats. Logan has gone 18 for 48 (.375) this season, hitting 7 taters and driving in 28 runs. He has scored 13 runs on his own. He's 1st in the North-South in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!

Henderson (VAN) wins Batter of the Month

The Batter of the Month Award in the North-South goes to Vancouver's Robert Henderson this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive performance in his league. He hit .490 with 27 RBI and slugged .745 in 102 at bats.

The pitchers aren't making much noise yet, but Rolf seems onto another good start as closer for Boston.

1) The Berzerker (4-1 (9 SV), 3.04 ERA, 1.84 ERC)

2) Peter Kostka (1-1 (1 SV), 1.98 ERA, 2.42 ERC)

Notes: The season marches on, and if it were to end today, Memphis, Baltimore, and Chicago would be the only three teams without TSM representation in the playoffs.

LeBeau has made 11 starts and has received a decision in every one, but this obviously isn't a good thing for him. Meanwhile, Vancouver keeps trucking, holding off Columbus--barely.

Awards/SFBL Players In The News:

Vancouver's Henderson wins Player of the Week Award

Robert Henderson from Vancouver wins his 10th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the North-South. He hit .522 with 4 RBI and slugged .870 in 23 at bats. He has hit 22 bombs while batting .424 this season. His 117 hits and 17 walks add up to a .456 on-base percentage. He's 1st in the North-South in batting, 4th in homeruns and 9th in runs batted in!

Marvin Jenkins shuts out Los Angeles on 2 hits

NEW YORK - Good things can happen when you throw strikes. And Marvin Jenkins did so today, in a 2-hit shutout against Los Angeles. Jenkins (8-5) struck out 4 and walked 4, throwing 66 of 118 pitches for strikes. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' New York centerfield Stephen Tampke stroked 3 hits in 4 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Jenkins. New York scored 4 runs on 11 hits.

Henderson wins Batter of the Month

Vancouver's leftfielder Robert Henderson had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the North-South Batter of the Month. He had an on base percentage of .465 and hit .425, while driving in 14 runs. Henderson has hit 25 longballs this year while batting .417. He adds 12 doubles, along with 79 runs scored. He's 1st in the North-South in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 10th in RBI!

Notes: Another month with no injuries allow some people to flourish, especially Robert Henderson, who is looking at a career season as he remains over .400, and will likely stay that way going through the All-Star Break.

Besides that, Caldwell has cooled down considerably, James is heating up at the plate, and Marvin Jenkins is looking to have a great year with a 9-5 start in the first half, leading the TSM pitchers.

Way to go James.

I say that the Jokers season rest in his hands. Watch him go down to injury now that I've said that.

And my God. What's the record for RBIs? I mean he is just killing in that department, it's freaking scary. Then again, James being a power hitter is scary. Especially considering how much of an improvement he's going through.

2) Peter Kostka (4-3 (5 SV), 2.86 ERA, 2.75 ERC)

Notes: Duran's season is over, Henderson's amazing season continues as it's completely realistic that he could stay above .400 by the end of the year. Marvin Jenkins is doing pretty well for himself to boot, but it's certainly not Rocket Wrist-worthy. Besides from that, it's simply a march to the playoffs now.

CONTRACT EXTENSIONS

Detroit : Logan Caldwell has been signed to a contract extension, $4,693,000 per year, for 4 years.

David Hunter and Charlie Matthews have been left unsigned as of yet.

I demand my team makes a trade for David Hunter.

I just have a "feeling" about that happening. Besides, we could always use a good hitter.

And is it just me or is everyone other than myself who is from the original crew, peaking out? I mean, a lot of guys (again from day one) seem in declines or sub-performances this year.

Marvin just wants to make the playoffs again. The last time he pitched in the playoffs, he got shelled.

And those are pretty decent numbers.

the original guys are all 28-29 now so it makes sense they'd be entering the dreaded down phase.

 Uh... Then why am I on the upswing?

This will be my best year to date. So how is that?

...and no, I'm not Barry Bonds. I contest that it is all about taking my vitamins, saying my prayers and just smacking a lot of homers.
