Hart Family and the Dungeon

Recommended Posts

Since the passing of Stu Hart and all the talk about the Hart family and the Dungeon/Stampede Wrestling who were the 'big' name guys that were trained in the dungeon/stampede wrestling?

I know a few like Benoit, The Hart Brothers, Storm but I don't really know the rest of the story.

Has the Dungeon had any failures?

Like guys who just never really amounted to much of anything?

Of course there were failures, but the very nature of failures says that we won't know about the worst of them. They were a training center for Stampede, as I recall, and not a place where wrestlers were necessarily hand-picked for greatness.

I know Kawada worked in Canada for a while with Tom Zenk, but I'm not sure whether that was in Stampede or somewhere further east.

I was going to start a thread for this question, but now this thread is running, I'll just whack it in here.

Now that Stu's left us, has Bret every expressed any desire to take over the dungeon?? I know he can't work as such but surely he could train. I know I'd like to see a Bret protege burst onto the scene, it would certainly be a viable avenue for him to return in a manager capacity.

All these replies and no one has mentioned one of the better technical wrestlers to ever come out of the dungeon: Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.

Can Bret even physically pull a training career off?

Let's look at his Clientale and his arch nemesis Clientale...

Once again Bret loses to Shawn...

That's the question I'm putting forward Choken, if Bret could train in the same fashion that Stu trained that would be pretty wicked. OK, here's an idea, Bret waits a year or two, then re-establishes The Dungeon. He oversees training and Dungeon Alumni Chris Benoit, Lance Storm & Chris Jericho do the physical stuff. Now that would be a training school.

i'm just saying if Test is a product of Bret's Training...Bret should stick to writing for the newspaper...

Doesn't make up for Test...They'll have to create two jerichos to make up for test.

Dynamite (or Davey) never trained in the Dungeon. A lot of the guys on these lists never did. They just worked the Stampede territory. There's a difference. In fact the whole mythos of Stampede being an outpost of great workers begins and ends with Dynamite coming over from England to work for Stu. The famous Hart wrestling style wouldn't be what it is without Dynamite's influence.

Dynamite first started training in the snake pit and with Ted Betley but did training in the dungeon afterwards as well. And yes, Dynamite did influence everything in Stampede. There's no dobut about that. It's scary when you look back and see how much influence he's had. Just 1 example- Look at Wrestlemania X and the two famous matches of Bret vs Owen (filled with Dynamite's moves) and Michaels vs Razor. Both finishes are moves Dynamite popularised way back in time. (Michaels may have added a new twist by getting his foot caught up in the ropes but Dynamite had already done the fall off the ladder nuts first onto the ropes bit)
