It's Better This Way

Recommended Posts

I know everyone, including myself is kinda feeling a letdown with the bad news with Hogan, but I think it will be for the best. When Dutch Mantell turned IWA into the success that it is today, he did it from the ground, without worldwide press. If last week was any idea of what we will be getting, it means that TNA's product will be much, much better within two months.

If they become succesful with their own talent, without a big name like Hulk Hogan, then they will have a solid base and not have to worry about one guy drawing all of the people. If Hogan had come in and got them one buyrate, but then people didn't think much of a Hogan-centered show, it would have been a *huge* waste of money. This way, they are still on weekly PPV, and if the show gets real good, there is enough exposure so that they will pick up steam on its own merits.

If there's one thing I've learned as a fan, it's that the big "single shot" show that's supposed to instantaneously earn you boatloads of viewers never works. How many times did WCW and Russo try a big "restart", only to have it stall out and fail a month later. TNA's success, Hogan or not, is going to be based on coherent storylines, good payoffs, and characters fans can get into. Hogan's presence would have most likely just made them focus less on character development of others. This way, TNA will have to build stars, and everyone knows building stars is the key to long-term success. It's gonna be harder now without an artificial boost, but it's not impossible.

The only benefit to this is they can set up a venue for it well in advance now and setup more long term booking going towards the event. That is only if Russo doesn't come back like he probably will since Hogan isn't coming in soon.

Yeah this is not good, it makes TNA look really bad having to cancel their big event hype and promise of Hogan even if it wasn't their fault. Plus Russo will now remain booker in some capacity. As mentioned this is only good to give them more time (although I suspect Hogan will heal up nice and tighty just by say...March 14?)
