Betty Houle 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 There's no way they could do it unless the new trilogy was way in the future because most of the original cast look really old now. Will it be based on the books? Like the "Heir to the Empire" and those books? Those were some pretty sweet books and I could see making a movie from them. Especially since they explained the absence of Obi Wan's ghost in the beginning of one of those books. Those books suck (although not as bad as the Dark Horse comic Dark Empire or whatever it was called. Complete garbage).
Neil-o-Mac 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 I really don't see this happening as... 1: The original story ideas Lucas had for Episodes 7-9 were condensed into ROTJ. IIRC, the original plan was to extend the story over the last three episodes, having Luke fall to the Dark Side and having Leia become the one that saves the day. Well, something to that effect anyway, my memory of what I read on the subject is a bit foggy. 2: The Star Wars movies are ultimately about Anakin Skywalker's fall from grace and redemption by his son. I'd love to see some sort of live action or animated adaptation of the Thrawn Trilogy or the Rogue Squadron books, but I doubt we'll see Episodes 7, 8 and 9 for the reasons above. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted October 24, 2003 Unless episode three kicks some serious ass, I don't see the point of a third trilogy. By the time it would get made, the generation of movie goers is going to be more familiar with the second trilogy as opposed to the first. And those people certainly aren't going to be flocking to the theaters in droves for more Star Wars. Because NONE of them are flocking to see episodes 1-3... Yeah, thats what I'm thinking. How can anyone say that interest is dying down? Just look at the last two movies' box office and sales numbers. Not very many other features even come close. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 OK,can someone explain this Thrawn Triology to those who DON'T read the books? Basically the last remaining Grand Admiral of the Empire starts a war against the new reforming republic. He's an alien with blue skin and he's very evil but also a friggin genius. Anyways he begins a fight using old Empire ships and soldiers and begins cloning soldiers. This leads us into Mara Jade who was actually the "hand of the emperor" and her vendetta to kill Luke Skywalker...even though they end up getting married later. And some other stuff happens that I can't remember because I read the books in the 7th grade and I'm a sophmore in college now. Someone else can feel in the details. But that's the basics. Blue Bacchus 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 If there is Sequel Trilogy then the Expanded Universe (Books, Comics, Video Games) will be shot or just quietly forgotten. There's too much shit out there for Lucas or Speilberg or any other writer to try to play around with the Original Characters. While the New Jedi Order series is great and so are certain Bantam Double Day books (Thrawn Duology and Trilogy, X-Wing Novels) they would have to be cut. George has always said that it's HIS universe and he'll play with it as he sees fit. Hence why Boba's Origins were changed.

Holy Hell, that sounds HORRIBLE. There are far worse SW books than the Thrawn novels...The Crystal Star, Darksaber, Children of the Jedi, anything by Kevin J. Anderson. All IMO, of course. YMMV.
