Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 Onyx defeated Hotstuff Hernandez in the main event of NWA Wildside's Fright Night 2003 event, in the Cage of Horrors (cage filled with weapons of destruction). All else that I know results-wise is that Rainman defeated AJ Styles (I think clean) and Jeremy V. and Brandon P. retained their Wildside Tag Team Titles over Todd Sexton & Masada. Unfortunately, Azrael apparantly got hurt on a spot where he fell right on top of his head. I'm sure Larry Goodman's report tomorrow will go more in-depth. Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted October 26, 2003 From the CZWFans board (thanks Tom) Bulldog Raines and Tank beat Mike Pittman and Nemesis ---Al Getz came out and said he's not bringing out the Dobbins tonight so he fed them Pittman and Nemesis, squash match basically. ONYX beat "The One Man Mafia" Mikal Adrian ---This was much better than what I expected it to be, very fun lil match. Jeremy V and Brandon P beat Todd Sexton and Masada to retain the Wildside Tag Team titles. ---Sexton has found his role. Him and Masada make a great tag team. I think this is the rebirth of the tag team division. Slim J beat Murder One in a 2 out of 3 falls match. ---It was the classic big man vs little man, Murder One's best singles match. Man, the girls are really getting into Slim. It was nuts. Ray Gordy beat Seth DeLay to retain the Wildside Junior Heavyweight title. ---I kept hearing how Delay has been putting on great matches in the last few weeks, wow, they were right, this was a great match. Tracy Brooks beat ODB (One Dirty Bitch) ---Not a bad women's match. Could be the start of something with Daizee Haze as well. Rainman beat AJ Styles to become the #1 contender to the NWA World Heavyweight title. ---This is the biggest win in Rainman's career. He had a lot to prove and I think he honestly did a great job. This should be a starmaking performance. But somehow someway the match with Jarrett probably won't happen and that's sad. Azrael and Slash beat Altar Boy Luke and Gabriel ---This was a good tag match. Slash belongs in Wildside. I yell out to him "Where's JC Ice" (Slash used to be known as Wolfie-D). He replied "In jail". Our section starts laughing, then he turns around and says "I'm not kidding." This looks to be a real brutal feud and it's really a great feud. ONYX beat Shawn "Hotstuff" Hernandez to win the Wildside Heavyweight Title ---ONYX is a guy who has always almost gotten there but never did. Well tonight he finally got there. Guest Markingout Report post Posted October 27, 2003 Wow,Rainman goes over clean. Sounded like a good show from Wildside like usual. (Y) Jerrelle Clark hell yes. My local homie How is Azrael
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted October 27, 2003 Here's the detailed report, courtesy Larry Goodman. NWA Wildside’s Fright Night ’03 was a fantastic show from top to bottom. Few would have believed the company could come through with a show that ranked among their best ever, without the scheduled NWA World Heavyweight Title match or Cage of Horrors Match, and not one drop of bloodshed at a Fright Night. A stoked SRO crowd of 180, the largest house in the NWA Arena since March, brought back the great atmosphere that has been missing from the recent TV tapings. This was a beautifully paced show. Everything about right in length with a total time of just under three hours The show opened with a 10 bell salute honoring Mike Hegstrand. NWA President, Bill Behrens introduced the Wildside announce team of Steven Prazak and Dan “The Dragon” Wilson. It’s easy for one to take them for granted when you have the opportunity to be entertained by their commentary on a weekly basis, as I do. They’re as good as any announcing team in wrestling. Behrens addressed the situation with the newly crowned NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett. Behrens said that Jarrett cheated and got a cheap win over Styles on Wednesday night at NWA-TNA. Behrens noted that it was Wildside official, Andrew Thomas that counted the pinfall. Behrens referenced a meeting in Nashville, involving Jeff and Jerry Jarrett, Behrens, Rick Michaels and Andrew Thomas, where Jarrett’s contractual obligation to defend the title at Fright Night was discussed. Jarrett appeared on the video screen with his response. Jarrett said Styles dropped “right to the bottom of the barrel” with his loss on Wednesday night and would have to prove himself to “The Board.” Jarrett said Styles would have to go through Rainman to get to him. “I’m not coming to Georgia Saturday, and that’s a promise.” The fans broke out a HUGE “F#ck you, Jarrett” chant. Attorney Jeff G. Bailey marched into the ring. Nobody walks quite the way Bailey walks. Bailey ripped on Behrens for not delivering on the promised title match after only one week on the job. Bailey accused Behrens of blaming Jarrett for his own incompetence. Bailey said Behrens was impotent. Bailey said Rainman was in the same position Styles was in two years ago, when Styles had Steve Martin grooming him for stardom. Bailey vowed that Rainman would beat Styles to become the number one contender, and then Behrens would have to deliver Double J for the title. Bailey claimed that Iceberg was done (forcing cancellation of the Cage of Horrors Match vs. Hotstuff Hernandez). Said that Iceberg was hospitalized all week and would never show his face again. Behrens said Styles was going to kick Rainman’s ass. Behrens admitted that he was not able to deliver Jarrett for Fright Night but implied that he would at a later date. Behrens announced that the winner of the Mikal Adryan/Onyx match would face Hotstuff Hernandez for the Wildside Heavyweight Title in the main event. Looks like the tease of a Jarrett appearance at Fright Night was a work from the get go, and a great one at that. In any case, they made Jarrett out to be the biggest dick in Wildside history. Fans were left salivating at the prospect of seeing AJ beat Jarrett’s ass on their home turf. The fans rudely greeted the arrival of Al Getz. Getz said that Tank talked last week for the first time in two and a half years and it was all lies and crap. Getz threatened to shut Tank’s mouth himself. Getz credited the Dobbins with running a list of teams out of Wildside. “You want The Dobbins? You can’t handle The Dobbins.” Getz called out Nemesis and Mike Pittman instead. (1) Tank & Bulldog Raines beat Nemesis & Mike Pittman (with Al Getz) in 4:10. Pittman was a late replacement for Shadow Jackson. Tank and Raines came out in matching “Lick My Balls” t-shirts. Hey, it works in Cornelia. Tank no sold stiff kicks to the back by Nemesis. The scrubs got a little heat on Raines. Tank took Nemesis out with a cobra clutch suplex. Tank and Raines popped the crowd with a vicious Powerbreaker. Tank locked on the STF and Pittman tapped. It served its purpose. Crowd liked it. Tank got off a line about Getz having to close the pawn shop down an hour early. Tank said they wanted the Dobbins Sisters. Behrens said you’ve got them in a bunkhouse match next week. (2) Onyx beat Mikal Adryan in 5:35 to earn a shot at the Wildside Heavyweight Title in the main event. They worked the perfect match for this spot on the card. Adryan hid out by the announcer’s booth to set up a blindside attack. Hot brawl outside the ring. This was similar to the one they did at a TV taping that bombed because of a dead crowd. Not a problem on this night. Hard whips into the railing both ways. At 3:35, Adryan blocked a suplex and suplexed Onyx on the floor. Adryan rammed Onyx crotch first into the ringpost. Onyx pulled the veteran move by nailing Adryan as he tried to get in the ring. Adryan hit a Yakuza kick to set up his finisher. Adryan went for the Assisted Suicide, but Onyx countered with a roll up for the pin. (3) Jeremy V & Brandon P beat The Texas Death Club (Todd Sexton & Masada) to retain the NWA Wildside Tag Team Titles (11:18). This started slowly but built to an ultrafine finishing sequence. P seemed a bit off in the early going. The energy picked up when V landed on his feet on Masada’s monkey flip attempt and they slapped the piss out of each other. V hit a double bulldog on TDC that gave the champs a brief advantage. TDC did a double reverse suplex/double kip up spot to start some major heat on V. TDC’s offense looked great here, and V was the perfect guy to take it. They did the Yoshie & Tanahashi stereo clotheslines and stiff kicks. Beautiful northern lights with a bridge by Masada. At 8:20, V hit a german suplex on Masada that left both men down. Double tags. P hit a double clothesline from the top rope. The champs doubled on Sexton. The crowd popped for a Road Warriors tribute spot, as V & P did the Doomsday Device on Sexton. Rock and Roll Express double dropkick on Masada. Uh oh, P got crotched on the top rope. Masada violated P by dropping him on his neck with the Masadamizer. Sexton took P’s head off with a superkick. TDC set up for their doubleteam finisher and it looked like curtains for P. Sexton saved wih a missile dropkick on Sexton and P surprised Masada with a victory roll for the three count. (4) Slim J beat Murder One two of out of three falls (total time 12:12). A satisfying conclusion to their program. J landed badly on hiptoss and started selling his knee; a nice way to play off the knee injury that took J out of last week’s tag match. M-1 won the first fall in just 1:45. M-1 tried to end it with the Zoolander, but J slithered into a Gibson roll type deal to even the match at 2:40. M-1 resorted to a nutshot and beat the bejesus out of J, who was selling like a muthah. Slim responded to the crowd’s chants by firing up. M-1 ripped J’s shirt off and blistered him with chops. M-1 went back to the knee. He hit a kneebreaker from the second rope and went for a submission. Crowd was way into this. J collapsed on a whip into the corner. M-1 said it wasn’t his fault that J couldn’t stand up. J made like a miniature windmill as he wailed away on the comeback. J hit the Sliced Bread 420 for a near fall. J missed with a moonsault and M-1 decapitated him with the Blazin’ Lariat. M-1 hit a vicious powerbomb. M-1 went for the powerbomb again, but J escaped and cradled M-1 on the way down for the pin. Great pop for the finish. The postmatch was a little shocking, as M-showed respect by slapping hands with J. (5) Ray Gordy (with Salvatore Rinauro) beat Seth Delay to retain the NWA Wildside Junior Title (10:12). I was hoping this would be the two out of three falls match. It had by far the most heat of any of their four matches. Technically, it may have been a tad below some of the others. Really friggin’ good regardless. Delay seized control and Gordy bailed to confer with Rinauro. Gordy got control on the mat with a hammerlock while digging a knee into Delay’s head. Delay shot for a double leg and took Gordy down. At 3:25, Gordy hit a spinning fisherman suplex and began to dominate. Delay hit leapfrog sunset flip and followed with a picture perfect dropkick for a near fall. Gordy came right back with an enzuigiri and german suplex with a bridge. Delay hit his run up the ropes huracanrana. Both men down. Gordy escaped from Delay’s cradle DDT, but got caught with a nip up huracanrana. Rinauro interfered to tease the finish of their last singles match, but Delay countered Gordy’s pumphandle facebuster with the cradle DDT. Rinauro put Gordy’s foot on the ropes to save. Delay hit a sweet tope con hilo on Rinauro. Tracy Brooks joined Rinauro at ringside. Delay did the Kool Krusher for another near fall. Delay hit another cradle DDT and Rinauro pulled ref Mike Posey out. Gordy then hit the pumphandle facebuster for the pin. Intermission. The first half was rated way ahead of expectations by the hardcore fans I talked with at the break. (6) Tracy Brooks beat ODB (Old Dirty B#tch) in 4:55. One Dykey Beast is more like it. A disturbingly freaky look. That chick’s hormones are majorly out of whack. Brooks’ busty schoolgirl gimmick is another story altogether. At the risk of damning it with faint praise, this still may have been the best women’s match in Wildside history. Brooks rubbed referee Speedy Nelson’s head into her ample cleavage. Speedy was in a daze. He was also in no hurry to move onto the next spot. Brooks hit a lefty clothesline. Both down on a double facebuster. ODB sat on the top buckle and rammed Brooks’ head into the turnbuckle right between her legs for a nasty visual. ODB missed coming off the top and Brooks got a roll up pin. (7) Rainman (with Jeff G. Bailey) beat A. J. Styles in 20:55. Great match. This was everything fans had hoped for and more. Styles’ entrance was all about the aura of a star. I’ve read comments about Styles’ lack of charisma. He had charisma to burn on this night. Styles ruled on the mat as expected. Styles snapped off a dropkick that was gold. World class gold. Styles then executed one of the most electrifying moves I’ve ever witnessed. With Rainman on the floor, Styles exploded with a two foot leap over the top rope to a standing position on the floor, chopping Rainman on the way down. That reads so lame compared to live experience. It was like a “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” move, except those dudes had wires attached to their bodies. Buy the damn tape. Styles sat Rainman in a chair and did a senton splash over the guardrail. At 4:30, Rainman hit the Dark City Bomb to turn the momentum. Rainman did a variation of the Spinesplitta. Styles busted out a bicycle kick. Flying kneedrop for two. Styles applied the Muta lock. Back and forth now, as Rainman used a sitout slam for a near fall. Styles hit a spinebuster that David Young would have been proud of. Styles hit a pumphandle backbreaker for a two count. Styles did the chest moonsault, but Rainman ducked the clothesline and sent Styles over the top with a dropkick. Rainman punished Styles on the outside. Styles caught Rainman with a hot shot. Classic Styles here with the vertical suplex/hangman neckbreaker and the brainbuster for near falls. A furious exchange…simultaneous kicks to the head left both men on the canvas. Rainman dropped Styles on his head, but Styles was in the ropes. Styles popped the crowd with the quebrada into the reverse DDT. Rainman blocked a tornado DDT. Rainman hit the Spinesplitta for a near fall. Bailey got bumped off the apron on a german suplex. Styles followed with a facebuster for a killer false finish. Bailey tripped up Styles and Rainman hit a powerbomb. Styles tried for the Clash. No. Bailey up on the apron again. Bailey shoved Styles into Rainman’s Dark City Street Cutter. 1..2..3. Rainman shook hands with Styles in the postmatch. Tremendous applause for Styles on his way out. (8) Altar Boy Luke & Gabriel beat Slash & Azrael (with Jeff G. Bailey) in 10:18. Lots of wicked moves in this match. 4 way action at the start. Gabriel looked great in his first match back. He was really putting it to Azrael. Gabriel hit a springboard double stomp to Azrael’s back. Luke and Gabriel did a stereo ninja spot. Match turned on a dime when Azrael flipped Gabriel off his shoulders and punted him in the face as he fell to the mat. Gabriel took heat. Slash dropped Gabriel on his neck out of a press slam. Slash taunted Luke in his Tennessee twang with “##### Catholic boy” and “did a priest get aholt of you boy?” Gabriel scored a visual fall behind the ref’s back Azrael did that spectacular new suplex/uranage thingy that always gets a pop. Gabriel hit a powerbomb counter. Hot tag. Luke cleaned house. Gabriel hit a DVD and Luke followed with the Halo, but Bailey saved with a Bruno Malle loafer to the head of Luke. Slash hit the Whirlybird on Luke and Gabriel saved. Gabriel dropped Azrael on his head with a burning hammer for an awesome near fall. Azrael was hurt legit. Finish saw Azrael crotched on the top. Luke hit a top rope huracanrana and Gabriel followed with the Unholy Roller for the pin. Slash and Azrael attacked Luke & Gabriel in the postmatch. Gabriel was duct taped to the ropes. Slash was ready to slice Luke open with his sword when Bailey said allow me. Bailey pulled out a stun gun and repeatedly zapped Luke. Delay, V, and P finally made the save. Luke was hauled to the back frothing like a mad dog. (9) Onyx beat Hotstuff Hernandez (with Jeff G. Bailey) in 10:50. This match rocked. This crowd rocked. With Iceberg on the shelf, Onyx was an exquisite choice to replace him. Onyx shines against big men and this match was no exception. There’s nobody else in wrestling at Onyx’s height that could stand toe to toe with Hernandez and make it Iook credible, but with his freakish physique and strength, it works. Hernandez also looked great, as he has trimmed down to 275. Wilson did tremendous championship style introductions for the match. Onyx no sold shoulder tackles by Hernandez and EXPLODED with a shoulder tackle that was off the hook. Hernandez heeled. Hernandez gave Onyx and overhead suplex by his neck. Onyx countered out of a camel clutch with an electric chair drop for a near fall. Hernandez charged into a powerslam for another near fall. Hernandez hit a spinning powerbomb. Onyx got crotched on the top rope and Hernandez knocked him to the floor with a twisting missile dropkick. Hernandez hit an over the top tope that was the shiznit. He looked like a freakin’ missile. Back inside, Onyx hit an Angry Man slam and the champion was in trouble. Props to Hernandez. He’s come a helluva a long way with his selling. Hernandez speared Onyx. Hernandez launched Onyx to an insane height with the Mega Bomb. Hernandez said one more time. MEGA BOMB NUMBER TWO. Onyx kicked out(!) Iceberg came to ringside wearing a neckbrace. Hernandez climbed up on the ropes to confront him. Onyx used the distraction to regain his bearings and hit the Blackout DDT for the win. Iceberg presented Onyx with the belt. All of the faces came to the ring to congratulate Onyx. It was an emotional victory for a man that has been with the promotion since its infancy and never captured the heavyweight prize until now. NOTES: In addition to the Bunkhouse Brawl, next’s week TV Taping has Onyx vs.Adryan in a title match, Gordy vs. Slim J in a title match, and Jerrelle Clark from NWA Florida vs. Seth Delay…Matt Sydal returns to Wildside on 11/15 along with Ryan Ash…Frankie Capone and Kevin Matthews will also be coming in for TV…Onyx is booked for Tuesdays’ Smackdown taping at Gwinnett Center…Caprice Coleman is booked for Monday’s RAW in Fayetteville…Upcoming TNA Explosion appearances: 11/12 Caprice Coleman, 11/19 Hernandez and Fast Eddie, 12/3 Onyx…Iceberg suffered a stinger during the “Gauntlet for The Gold” at last week’s television taping. He will be out for a week at least.
