BlackFlagg 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2003 Creature Corner reports that Brad Keene and Chris Skinner, the writers of Mike (THE CONVENT) Mendez’s next film GRAVE DANCERS, are also penning a new version of the 1980 slasher film PROM NIGHT. The original starred Jamie Lee Curtis as one of a group of high-school students stalked by a masked killer avenging the death of a young girl years before, and Leslie Nielsen in probably his last straight role as her father the principal. Reportedly, the remake, to be produced by Original Films (how’s that for irony?) will deviate substantially from the previous film’s storyline.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 31, 2003 remakes like this don't bother me. The original isn't a classic and could probably be improved upon.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2003 Exactly. I'm no fan of the "horror" genre (at least not the stuff passed as horror in the last couple of decades), but a lot of the movies being remade are pretty crappy, so them being remade isn't the biggest travesty, although it is pretty stupid, since more times than not, they're likely to be as bad or worse than the original. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 1, 2003 Most of the latest horror remakes released or in production have been of the good movies. We've yet to see any remakes of middle of the road or bad horror films make it out of the rumor stages.

To be fair though, the entire Prom Night series (there are at least 4 PN movies IIRC) are all totally different films ranging from slasher films to the imfamous Supernatural Possession-themed Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lue.... kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 I guess my only problem with stuff like this is how hard can it be to make an original work that is in the "Prom Night" genre?...
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 2, 2003 It's not hard at all...all these revenge horror films are basically the same. I really have no clue why they'd bother doing a Prom Night remake. It's not like it's a major franchise name in horror.

Actually it is, though only in reguards to the original. It's part of the Holy Trinity of slasher movies Jamie Lee Curtis did early in her career before she became a major league Hollywood actress.
