Guest Boo_Bradley Report post Posted November 1, 2003 High School QB Says Record Pass Tainted By Associated Press October 31, 2003, 2:59 PM EST SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A high school quarterback has asked officials to erase his record-setting pass because his coach had made a deal with the opposing team to let him complete it. Nate Haasis' Springfield Southeast High School team let Cahokia High School score a touchdown late in Saturday's game, which Cahokia won 42-20. In exchange, Cahokia made no effort to keep Haasis from completing a 37-yard pass that gave him a record. In post-game comments Saturday, both coaches acknowledged arranging the deal during a time-out. The completion gave Haasis 5,006 yards for his career, setting a new record for the Central State Eight Conference and making him one of 12 Illinois high school quarterbacks to pass for more than 5,000 yards. But in a letter to the president of the conference, Haasis asked that the pass be stricken from the record books. "While I admittedly would like to have passed the record, as I think most high school quarterbacks would, I am requesting that the Central State Eight does not include this pass in the record books," Haasis wrote. Haasis said the yardage he passed for in his career "required a lot of cooperation and hard work from my teammates. I do not wish to diminish the accomplishments that were made in the last three years." The conference is expected to approve Haasis' request at its monthly meeting Wednesday. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 Sad that the kid outclasses his coach. First thought when reading this story was that injured chick who was allowed to make a lay-up in order to set some women's NCAA scoring record. I thumbed my nose at that, and I thumb my nose at this "record"...
Lando Griffin 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 Reminded me of the teams that let the retard score a free touchdown last year.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 I was just reading this in our local paper. I had no idea this was national news. I don't think we've been represented in any national media since Buff Bagwell was arrested here (which I saw ). I know people who go to school with the dude, and the man whose record he broke, Griff Jurgens, attended Glenwood High School with me for a year. I think that's very honorable of him to turn down the tainted record.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 2, 2003 Reminded me of the teams that let the retard score a free touchdown last year. Kind of a different thing here...There was no record or anything tainted... That game, the one you are refering to I believe was a 42-0 season closer... The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 Hats off to this guy. Makes me wonder how much is going on at my school with coaches making deals and such, not to mention the seedy underbelly of all the roids and drugs.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 So why couldn't Haasis have come by the record without shenanighans?
Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 So why couldn't Haasis have come by the record without shenanighans? My guess is that it was probably the last regular season game (and they weren't going to the playoffs), since I'd figure (I know for sure in my state) that playoffs need to start next week so they can be done by Thanksgiving
