A better question is just how in the hell does WWE expect the fans to take to Bob Holly as some sort of "threat" to Brock Lesnar, after using him for shit for the majority of his career.

I happen to like the guy, and WANT to see him get a push, but I don't understand the logic of this sort of push, right now.

It's pure HATE that will drive Holly - fans will believe that he won't hold back on Lesnar, even if he gets eliminated early.

It's one of the few angles that you can't fuck up - seemingly because it writes itself.

Its because he's from an era of the WWE that us fans would like to forget (1995!!!! For god's sake), he is repeatedly pushed despite having little talent, and he's stiff

Oddly enough, I loved the guy during the super-heavyweights phase, but all the charisma he had back then has evaporated

and i hate his stupid-ass catchphrase

Question I remember once when I wrestler, I think either Mick Foley or Al Snow, was going to face Holly. And to mock him they came out to the old Spark Plugg music and dressed like a race car driver. Does anyone else remember this?

Being stiff isn't necessarily a bad thing. (see Hansen, Stan)

Its is when your'e a lousy wrestler and you can't back it up, which is exactly what happened to him against Lesnar - he thought he'd take advantage of the rookie, a rookie who could out wrestle him with one arm tied behind his back.

After that, he decides to be an unco-operate fuck, and gets dropped on his head as a result.

Oddly enough, they did this angle before, with Holly and Kurt Angle, and it bombed, and I expect this to bomb just as badly

Yes. It was Al Snow, on the same night he debuted Pierre.

May 2nd, 1999 episode of HEAT.

By the way, I believe the hate for Holly stems from him simply being a dick.

Thats why I hate the bastard.

- bucktooth asshole

- boring style

- generic look

- stiff worker

- been around for at least 8 or 9 years and hasnt been good enough to garner a decent push

- he is being pushed as a threat against Lesnar

I thought he had some pretty good high-flying skills when he was Sparky. I don't know if he resents the fact that he "never got a break" while all the other "Johnny come latelys" were getting placed higher on the card than he was, but I started losing respect for him when he became a jerk. I know the general consenseus is that he's a legitimate tough guy, but when he starts going into business for himself out of shear jealousy, I can see why people would be put off.

Let's make no mistake about it - unless it's against a greenhorn half his size, Holly is NOT a stiff worker. These new video packages are a freakin' riot because those saying how tough he is were doubtless strongly encouraged to do so from the Office.

What's ironic is that his "angry because of his lack of push" act has a lot to do with what's keeping him from any upward mobility.

Oh, and his 'kick my opponent in the nuts when he's hung up on the rope' thing is really stupid.

Holly's best chance at a push of any real meaning was to beat Kurt Angle after he returned from the arm injury. But they never really went with it, so whatever.

That was what I was referring to. Holly came back the night after the Survivor Series (or maybe a month before) and started a mini-program, but it never went anywhere

Ironically, if they had pulled the trigger on a couple midcard pushes instead of relying on Rock and HHH (Holly, Venis, jump to mind here) they wouldn't have been in such dire straits in early 2001 when HHH and a few others went down AND they'd have WWE grown stars now but whatever.

...because Angle was the world champion at this point.

People dug the Holly/Angle feud, but Kurt had bigger fish to fry at this point (i.e. FIVE other wrestlers in the Armageddon HITC).

I just never could stand him.

Let's see:

He's annoying

Appears to have an big attitude problem when he's lucky to have a job peroid.

Hasn't the slightest bit of talent, yet has kept a job with the world's biggest wrestling company for 10 years now.

Beat Mike Awesome in 2001 when Awesome still had a chance to get over

He will never, ever be over.

Gets Pushes while Tommy Dreamer, Ultimo Dragon and others with more talent job on the B shows.

Still has a job when more talented performers where let go (Really he should have been canned when the Godfather and the rest of the junk was)

Whenever he is on I always change the channel and sometimes never change back. He generates that X-Pac/Stephanie McMahone "go away and never come back" type of heat.

eh, in closing... I just don't like the guy.

So they come in 3 forms?

1. Bald

2. Beard

3. Tatoo

Bob Holly has none of those.

- Bald-ing, yes. Bald, no.

- Beard, no.

- Tatoo, none that are visable.

But he is still a blond and a Super Heavyweight.

Eh, hello, I think Brock has bigger fish to fry at the moment

Was that my point?

This feud won't "bomb", even though that term can't be applied to a mini-feud like this in the first place.

Lesnar simply has bigger fish to fry with Benoit and Angle.
