So, MLB placed WGN into the same situation they will soon force TBS into.....shorten the number of games you show or lose the rights to cover MLB period.

Not going to happen. Ted Turner is broadcasting HIS team on HIS network. If Selig has plans for that he's going to have to pony up some real money to Ted.

Actually no, he doesn't.

Without the MLB copyright, Ted couldn't show one game on HIS network even if they are HIS team.

MLB holds all the cards when it comes to showing games.

I'm not, but when I find out that Todd WALKER might be a short...I tend to get confused.

If they don't have Gonzo then they need to move on Aurilla as he is a decent hitting shortstop who will give them at least 15 homeruns and a mid .280 batting average.

They still have Alex Gonzalez at short. Honestly, Aurilia's merely an average hitting shortstop. Jose Valentin is better, and he got no wear near the attention Aurilia gets.

He had an option actually, so he wasn't. My apologies.

I haven't had a chance to touch upon the Shawn Wooten signing. I like the deal. Wooten had an off year, but he can still hit a little. Plus, he can fill in at catcher, which is a good thing to have in a bench player.

Isn't he the guy that got gunned out from deep right field on what should have been a single?

He's a good catcher but he's slower than Cecil Fielder and Chris Hoiles combined.

Problem: You have hitting, but you need pitching

Solution: Attempt to trade away your superstar player for less value in return, and sign a past his prime, overrated hitter.

No wonder this team is losing.

I really wish Vlad would quit dicking around and sign with somebody.

And why has Ponson sat on the market untouched for so long? He must be waiting for Baltimore cause I know he really loved the city and team.

So with Vlad holding up Baltimore, Ponson may get signed to another team. Vlad is not even on the team and I already dislike him.

It's either Baltimore or Florida...you either go to Baltimore in a city starving for superstars since Cal left and stay there or you go to Florida and get traded next season. It's really not that hard.

He must be sitting next to his phone crying, "George will call, I'll be a Yankee....you'll see."

Just one problem with that...Vlad doesn't want to go to New York. He's not very comfortable in huge cities. You don't think that if Steinbrenner thought for a moment that he could sign Vlad, he'd have an offer on the table immediately?

Then what the hell does he want???

Does he want Major League baseball to create a team in Montana for him so he doesn't have to worry about the big city?

Everyone and their mom knows if he goes to Florida, they will trade him next season in a cost cutting move. And since he doesn't want "big city" life, he is left with limited to no choices.

I wish baseball hadn't wasted three or four weeks on that A-Rod bs and focused on what the hell is up with the major free agents.

Agreed. Especially since the A-Rod thing was nothing more than media hype and smoke.

Rumors (specifically WFAN) say that Sidney Ponson may sign with the Mets. Nice pickup if it's true or does happen.

Glavine, Ponson, Leiter, Traschel and Seo would be a nice looking rotation.

With A's pitching coach Rick Peterson heading to the Mets this year, he can help them reach their potential.

Yeah, really. If they sign Ponson, the rotation goes from meh to awesome.

Until the Braves come around, of course.

Expecally if it's a four game series. With Glavine cowering in the corner, I don't know if I'd really trust anyone but Leiter to do well. :P

Damn, that took a lot of thinking and writing and it didn't come out that funny.

Hey 2Gold, get a clue.

First of all, the Marlins don't want Vlad anymore, and secondly if they did, they would keep him for his whole contract.

You're sounding very ignorant on the entire topic. The Marlins have a payroll to match, and they did so this offseason. Everyone wants to focus on the loss of Lee, Pudge, Urbina, Encarnacion. Pudge was asking for too much, and still is. No team would have signed him for what he was asking for. Urbina, no matter what way you choose to look at it, was not a Marlin. He was a hired gun for the postseason. He was on the team for half a season. He did his job, and off he goes. No different than any other team that's won the championship in the past ten years. And as for Encarnacion, a man known as Miguel Cabrera made him expendable. When the World Series rolls around and you're left sitting the bench, your time has passed. And Derek Lee, while a great player, was traded for a prospect that can turn out to be a league MVP.

Now let's focus on the positives. Lowell and Castillo signed to long term deals. That's right, 3 and 4 years. They resigned a ton of players, including offering arbitration to Alex Gonzalez, A.J. Burnett and Brad Penny. They also signed Armando Benitez, while a questionable move, if he gets his confidence back he can be a valuable closer. Two years of booing in new york can rile up anyone who isn't superiorally strong mentally.

You may think it makes you cool or "smart" or something to rip on the Marlins, but when it's obvious you have no idea what the hell you're talking about, you might as well stop.

The firesale occurred two owners ago, and it's obvious that Wayne Huizenga never gave a damn about the team in the first place. The team is committed to winning, and while it doesn't have the payroll of a New York team or the Red Sox, $60 payroll is nothing to sneeze at for the market they play in.

I know the situation involving the Marlins and the ownership needs a new stadium before they could even consider the payroll of Vlad.

I'm not convinced the Marlins would have had the money to afford all the players they have coming up next season had they acquired Vlad. I hope they are able to continue to build and hopefully they can maintain the payroll like they did this season, but Vlad would have hurt them and he would have been dealt to cut his cost to keep the staff.

As for the other part, quit trying to turn it into a personal attack cause I will not respond to such as I am not below the age of 20 anymore.

Being realistic about the Marlins is not ripping them, if anything I don't even see where they would have needed Vlad with the talent they had.

It wasn't a personal attack, calling someone ignorant is anything but. It simply means not knowing and from the tone of your previous posts I thought you were speaking on the Marlins situation without knowing the facts. I've seen it done on this board too many times to count, as well as many times on ESPN (everyday during the playoffs by Dan Shanoff in the Daily Quickie).

Nothing personal, I just can't stand it when people think they are funny or cool by making payroll jokes about the Marlins when they have no idea what they are talking about.

Obviously you do know the situation and I was a bit unjustly strong in my tone, but you could probably see where I was coming from.

Seriously though, contrary to what you all think (with no evidence), I'm perfectly sane.

My main problem is that I hide my emotions. If I'm angry, you won't see it until the big explosion, complete with total temper tantrum, jumping, kicking, screaming throwing things and all that.

But yeah, I'm not insane.

Ok...you're not insane --- you're just a Yankees fan. My twin brother is a Yanks fan and he exhibits the same symptoms. I could see how insanity and being a Yankee fan could be confused with each other.

I'm not so sure. Glavine and Leiter are both 38, and Glavine stunk up the joint. He's not getting any better.
