BRUTAL SHIT

Recommended Posts

Guest Random Hero

Today I was totally in the mood for some full-on brutal metal, something to make my ears bleed, no melody or anything just a devastating assault on my ear drums.

However I had nothing of the sort.

So what is THE most brutal band around? You don't neccesarily have to like them. I just wanna know so next time I'm in such a mood I'll have something.

Random Hero, please, please, please, PLEASE tell me that you got that joke and just went along with it.

Oh, and...um...shit. I don't listen to any brutal metal, really. The most brutal I get is Stormtroopers of Death, but they're probably nothing compared to some of the shit that guys like Agent listen to.

So your best bet is to wait for him or Nevermortal or someone to show up.

To beat Agent to the chase, Nile.

Check out some Murder Squad, too. Decent brutal band, with enough riff changes in their works to keep it from being boring.

I don't listen to "BRUTAL" music too much, because most of it sounds the same to me. It's usually just blast beats with Drop-D or Drop-C (in some cases Drop-A) guitars and bass while some jackass growls about something that you can't understand. There are a few bands that can do it nice and brutal while being technically proficient (Nile comes to mind, although I only own their first LP, which is a heaping pile of excrement), but most suck at it excruciatingly bad.

See, the beautiful thing about brutal grind bands is that the songs download quickly, so you can decide if it's good or not. Short music can be a good thing.

Try some Gorguts on for size. It's all pretty much the same idea, and none of it's really over 15 seconds long, that I've heard anyway.

"Ceramic Godproduct" by Agoraphobic Nosebleed is really abraisive and fast, but not really heavy so much.

Mortician is heavy, but not really abraisive and fast so much. "Chainsaw Dismemberment" has a really good sample at the beginning that drops right into this chug riff tuned to G flat, or some such madness.

Nile tracks:

"Smashing the Antiu"

"Howling of The Jinn"

"Black Seeds of Vengeance"

"The Blessed Dead"

"Unas, Slayer of the Gods" (my favorite brutal death song ever, at the moment)

Morbid Angel:

"He Who Sleeps"

"Summoning Redemption"

"God of Emptiness"

"Blessed are the Sick"

"To the Victor the Spoils"

"Place of Many Deaths"

Nasum:

"Inhale/Exhale"

"Corrosion"

Dying fucking Fetus

"Vengeance Unleashed"

"Praise the Lord"

"Pissing in the Mainstream"

"Schematics" (Good "my first brutal death" type song. It eases you in for about thirty seconds.)

Also, absolutely anything you can find by Suffocation, or Cryptopsy is guaranteed to rule.

I don't really listen to a lot of amelodic "brutal" metal, but here's my selection for some good death/black stuff

Morbid Angel (like AoO said, and it's where the "Angel" comes from my name)

Obituary

In Flames (haven't heard anything after Clayman, but everything before is golden)

Opeth

Death

If Satanism isn't an issue (for the rare Xtian metal fan):

Deicide

Dimmu Borgir

Emperor

If you can't get past the growling, listen to Acid Bath. They don't growl at all, and literally anyone with an interest in anything heavy should like these guys.

I got the Celine Dion joke.

Cheers for the recommendations guys, I'll try and download as many of them as I can.

If you would like something different from the growl infused death brutality, you can always go with the scream filled black metal slicing.

Marduk - Panzer Division Marduk

Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter and Sons Of Northern Darkness(YOU NEED THESE)

Goatwhore - Any of these guys work will serve you well for a mix of death, grind, black

Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas(Essentially perfection within the realm of the 'first wave' of black metal. Chainsaw guitar riffs and vocals that sound like a monk being tortured)

Death recommendations:

Suffocation - I've only heard one of their albums (Pierced From Within), and it kicked my ass and made me it's bitch.

Antaeus - Cut Yourself And Worship Satan(Super raw and blackened)

Onward soldier, you'll be scaring Christians and old people soon.

what I don't recommendis Napalm Death and Morbid Angel...too much heavy doses from both bands isn't normal.

I also recommend Alexisonfire though, pretty good band though

I can't believe I no-sold these guys earlier

Sepultura

Say what you will about Roots up to the present, but the four albums from Schizophrenia to Chaos AD are quite good

Don't forget to enter the aeon of Zyklon, one of the most brutal bands to come out of Norway in a loooong time.

Strapping Young Lad isn't brutal, but its heavier than three motherfucks. Townsend's voice and his riffs are like hot chainsaws cutting your through lifebutter. METAL-ooooooooh.....

I'm not feeling Devin Townshend. I haven't pinpointed what it is exactly, but I don't like SYL at all, really, and haven't really bothered with his solo stuff yet.

I DO however like the bands he works with, like Lamb of God, for example.

Napalm Death is, well..Napalm Death. Are we death? Are we thrash? Are we grind? Who knows. The point is, they're so unbelievably unfocused that everything just blends together into a tepid metal stew that isn't exactly offensive, but far, FAR from good.

The deities, however, were not favorable to Devin's hair

He's going to eat your fucking soul for that one.

I'll see your Devin Townsend

And I'll raise you...

The s/t album is a classic

OUTC and SOTL should also be in any DM fan's collection

Though I admit the more recent stuff has been less than stellar
