Jobber of the Week

FF12 revealed (broadband-sized picture inside)

Recommended Posts

Bringing "this game is ghey" to the next level:

01.jpg

So we got the woman on the left, who looks just like the last woman

The usual "queer eye" reject on the right, which looks like Square raided Konami's Suikoden art or something.

Fruity man has a lizard man behind him for some reason.

Short shorts girl is surrounded by images of knights with pointy things, well that's kind of cool, and men riding chocobos. Again.

And finally, we top it off with a logo which is actually bigger than the game title itself.

I officially think it's time for me to simply give up following Final Fantasy.

Um... Jobber. Get some facts straight.

"Shorts Girl" is a combination rip off of Garnet and Yuna.

"Queer Eye" is a rip off of Zidane and Tidus.

Men riding chocobos is a bad thing...? How?

And don't give up on FF. I'm about to try out FFXI. I'll let you know on what I find. Might not be half bad. Besides, I won't bitch about this game till I've gotten a chance to play it. Like any other game lately. Then again, like most RPGs lately, I've been utterly disappointed with them. So we'll see what happens.

...gotta admit, I like "Queer Eye"'s pants.

Yup, smart idea to base your opinion on a few images, and it's OMG BIG LOGO~! Such insightful analysis.

Personally, i'm looking forward to this as it's the first true FF game in a few years. The backgrounds look fantastic and im glad to see their focusing on a futuristic setting. Sure , the characters have a striking resemblance to Tidus and Yuna, but preliminary images always change , i'm sure they will be tweaked. The main reason I bought a PS2 was to play the FF series (save for XI), and there's no doubt i'll be picking this up on launch day

It's the same damn brunette girl that we've had since FF8. Make her a midget and you have the FF9 one.

The male character (why does he carry that bag the same way women wear a purse?) resembles the main character from Suikoden III.

The Knights-On-Chocobos thing isn't old or cliche or anything, but they did do it in their last game.

FF11 isn't that bad at all, really.

...um... Yah... I just said something to that effect Jobber.

I'll contradict you Jobber on the carrying the bag like a purse. Back when (since this game seems to be going back to that steam-punk era) in real life people actually carried bags like that. It was in case they couldn't get ahold of their weapon (which I'm guessing in "Queer Eye"'s case will probably be a sword) they could use the bag as a means of defense. If it's down at your side, it isn't as effective because you still have to lift it up, if it's already up, you can just swing away.

And so? Chocobos are the primary mount of the FF worlds. Hence it only makes it logical that if there are knights, they would use chocobos.

Oh? Played FF11? Cool. At least I got someone's perspective whom I sorta know (from the boards at least) who's played it now.

In a nutshell, my complaint is that we somehow went from that quiet "marketplace in a city with giant skyscrapers" futuristic scene to Yuna #4 and a hero who looks like he's dressing in drag for Mardi Gras.

WOULD IT KILL THEM TO MAKE THE FIGHTER WEAR ARMOR?

PS: Touche on the bag thing.

As long as it has good gameplay and a good story without being a giant fucking cut scene then I'll buy it

True... Quite true, at least on the market place.

As for the hero - and we are assuming the guy is the hero - if he's a mercenary or that, why would he wear armor? More specifically the full-plated armor.

In Japan, it was against the law for anyone not of the Samuri (knighthood, technically) to wear armor or use katanas (swords). So it's sorta just a thing the Japanese have with why they don't have heros who aren't of the noblity with armor, and frankly, it was also practiced throughout the world during the dark ages. Hence he probably isn't a knight (maybe knight in training?) and also, I doubt he'd use a sword. Perhaps we'll see the weapon known as Squall as the main character's (assumption on him being lead of course) weapon?

Why do I get that inference? Because, when hasn't an FF character who's wielded a blade in a steam-punk world, not been a knight/warrior? I said steam-punk, so please remember that FF7 & FF8 are not included. And I don't think he looks anything at all like a warrior fo sorts, so I doubt it. With the armor on the legging, I'm half tempted to say that his body is his weapon, and for the first time since FF1, we get a Monk class as our main character (I disregard Sabin, becuase it really was more of Terra/Celes as the main character of FFVI, at least in my opinion).

On top of that, you can assume a lot of things from FFXII's hero. First of all, he's probably just a vagabond that is searching for adventure. Since he's traveling the world, armor would be the least of his concerns because of practicality. I mean, think about it, if you are using a lot of money to travel the world, you can't readily justify that he has the money to spend on full-plated armor (the upkeep alone has to be dreadful on the pocket change). Also it's probably a very warm climate they are in, hence the very leisurely shirt. Armor is also hot and sweaty and very tiresome to care about everywhere. Now, the bottom half of his pants are covered in armorplates. Why? Probably because he rides a chocobo often (again, using the adventure assumption) and they seem to be getting a prominent role in this game. Hopefully they get a role in this game besides being fodder for "OH~! CHOCOBOS~!" moment. Why does him riding Chocobos make that armor important? For bushes, branches, and the like.

Then again, this all based on assumption, so I'll probably be proven wrong. But a lot of what is known as standards in the FF world, I think you can reasonably conclude will be true.

And thanks for the compliment on the bag. It helps when you have a fascination for the fantasy world, that you (meaning myself) sorta realize the simplistic nature of why such things are.

Also, I was going to comment that he (hero?) DOES look like he's related to Paine, and really bishonish, but I thought I was just getting too used to bishonen characters that I was starting to look for it.

As for Bangaa's, I'm happy they are getting a timely role now. They weren't a bad race, and thought they could be developed more. Since it's obvious they are going to be used in FFX2 (not to be confused with FFX-2), I'm kinda guessing we'll probably get Moogles back into the party as well. Hopefully.

Edit: One last thing, can we get that pic resized? Is stretching out my screen badly and I'm running higher than 800x640.

I'm really excited. The teaser art didn't do much for me. I was afraid they'd use FFT style art like the rumors said. I'm glad to see the bishonen guy and I think the girl looks cool. I like her outfit. I'm looking forward to their teen romance.

Ugg, I'll give it a rental when it comes out, but with the way Square has been going, I probably won't ever purchase it.

Yes the days when heroes were heroes. Villains were villains. And boys didn't look like girls. Those were the days......*sigh*

I'm out of the loop a little bit. What's up with this bishonen thing? A quick FAQ would be nice. I turned on Inuyasha on TV one night and the main charactor quickly became one of my most hated of all time. That quickly. If this is a trend popping up I hope it dies quickly.

It seems to be a thing amongst pre-teen girls. They like the guys that act and look like little girls for some reason. Maybe they're closet lesbians.

More than just pre teens llike that art style.

It's not a new trend, especially in RPGs. It's just that in game graphics are good enough to where you can see it. If you look at the art for older games like the FF titles they always looked like that.

Bishies isn't a new thing, like Sakura said. It's been around in anime and videogames forever. Some girls like it, so cool, whatever. No need to make fun of it or anything.

(My accepting attitude is probably because I have a girlfriend who's into yaoi of all things, but yeah.)

As for 12, uh....yeah. Why people are judging the game based on a few screenshots is beyond me. Really, I can care less how good the character designs are (I like the guy one, good example of a bishie, but the girl one looks way too similar to Yuna. She's still hot, just too much like the LAST heroine) as long as the story and gameplay hold up.

It's a Final Fantasy. They will. ;)
