Actor John Ritter's mother, Dorothy Fay Ritter, died on November 5 of natural causes, the family has announced. She was 88. The wife of singing cowboy Tex Ritter, Dorothy Fay died at the Motion Picture and Television Fund retirement home in the Woodland Hills section of Los Angeles to which she moved in 1989, two years after suffering a stroke, reports The Associated Press.

She starred in several B-movie Westerns in the 1930s and 1940s opposite Buck Jones, William "Wild Bill" Elliott, and others. She also made four westerns with Tex Ritter, but gave up acting soon after they married in 1941. Dorothy Fay, who was born Dorothy Fay Southworth in Prescott, Ariz., attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

She was very outgoing, very charming, the sort of person who walks into a room and the energy is driven to her," her son Tom Ritter told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday. "My brother was very much his mom's son," he said of John, who died on September 11 at age 54 from a rare and undetected heart problem. Dorothy Fay is survived by her son, Tom, and four grandchildren.

Well it looked like the woman lived a full life.

Well, it's certainly not a surprise. If there is always an old married couple and one of them dies, the stress and grief will usually kill the other one. The loss of a son is much worse.

God bless the family.
