USA Network And Universal To Develop...

Universal is looking to develop Scarface as an original limited series on USA Network. The cable channel is developing a multihour project that could resurrect the characters from Al Pacino's 1983 tour de force or explore other story lines set in the same Miami-based crime world.

 

Details are still sketchy as USA has just begun its efforts to lure top-notch talent on both sides of the camera to fill the shoes of Pacino and director Brian De Palma.

 

Universal saw further potential for Scarface as a younger generation discovers the gangster drama on DVD, where the recently released two-disc "Anniversary Edition" drew advance orders for more than 2 million units. A four-hour edition of the film provided a ratings bonanza for USA last month.

I'd love to see anything that have to do with Scarface, but if this is going to do anything to F__ up a classic, I vote "NO".

 

Once again, those bastards at USA are doing what they can to cash in and make a quick buck...

But the big question is will F. Murray Abrham be in it? Has the cast been announced yet? Who could play the young Tony? Fez from the 70's show or Lou Diamond Philips?

This being made wouldn't bother me and I'll watch it. However, I hope they don't make Tony a main character. Tony as a reoccuring character would be for the best.

 

No one will live up to Pacino's portrayal and the Tony story was well covered in the movie. The show should start after or a few weeks before Tony's death.

I think they should do it after Tony's death. It would leave the whole Tony thing alone(The issue of finding some one to take Pacinos part because obviously NO ONE can beat it) Then the other characters can be taken over by other actors andf I wouldnt mind. Hell, they could do it cool in the 70s and just use the Scarface name, because not many other people survived in Scarface.Who knows...could be good...but it smells kinda funny....

There's a story left open somewhere in the movie. I can't think of what, but there has to be something in the movie that isn't finished at the end of the movie or that will continue after Tony's death.

 

Bringing in other characters and new storylines is the only way the show will be worth watching. A show rehashing the movie wouldn't be very good.
