nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 Does anyone know if Saturday's legends game btwn the Canadiens and the Oilers be available on the hockey Center-Ice package? I'd like to think that it will, but don't want to get my hopes up if it's not going to be televised here in the States.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 Early weather reports are indicating temperatures at around 15 degrees. Unless the report that I'd heard was in celsius, they shouldn't have much problem keeping the ice frozen, even with the stadium lights on.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1666622 That is pretty cool that the Rangers would let Messier go play in the game.

Unless the report that I'd heard was in celsius, they shouldn't have much problem keeping the ice frozen, even with the stadium lights on. You might want to check again. Reports here are that the temperature will be around 1F (-17C). The rink won't be the only thing that's frozen that night, that's for sure.
treble 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 HNIC is showing the old-timers game live, but I guess that the Center Ice package isn't picking it up. As for the weather, I think Edmonton just got dumped with a ton of snow in the past few days, but it doesn't look like there's going to be any more falling on the weekend. It should be cold, but I think they're more worried about a wind-chill factor that would make it too cold to be outside. It's going to have to be VERY cold, though, for them to cancel it, though. And almost pathetic too... Nah, Mess is still better than three-fourths of the team. /poor Rangers fan I am
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 Why don't people just ASK the resident Edmontonian of the boards about the condition of Edmonton? Simple no? Anywhoo, yah, it snowed nicely. It's cold, and further more, from the way things are going, it'll be just nice for an outdoor game. ...then again, I'm watching from the inside my house. And since nothing outside of a blizzard will stop this from going through, we'll be having some old fashion hockey. Should be a nice double header. Although, I think the Legends Oilers will win, the NHL Oilers will bomb. My prediction anyways.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 Apparently there's talk of another outdoors game next year with the Rangers and Isles playing in Central Park. If that happens, I am SO there.
Chuck Woolery 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 ...if that happens, I'd hitchhike to New York to catch it. Seriously.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2003 There was also talk of the Leafs submitting a bid to play a game at the Skydome, but the NHL saw that the Leafs were just trying to be money grubbing bastids.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 There was also talk of the Leafs submitting a bid to play a game at the Skydome, but the NHL saw that the Leafs were just trying to be money grubbing bastids. Actually, they succeed at that very well.
treble 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 I think the Leafs could probably play all of their home games at SkyDome (roof open or closed) and draw crowds of 30,000+, anyway, but I don't think an outdoor game at a place like SkyDome would have the same appeal as a a game at Commonwealth Stadium (or a similar place) has. A game in Central Park sounds a hell of a lot better, anyway.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 Bettman confirmed that the game is a go...despite being -21 at the start of the MegaStars game.
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 I guess this is spoilers for anyone who is planning on watching the game next week... But how awesome was Bill Ranford in the 2nd? Fun game to watch....seeing Fuhr make that wicked glove save brought back some memories. Russ Courtnall was flying around the ice, which was kinda suprising. Carbonneau showed off a bit too. The game was starting to get quite good with 3 mins left in the 2nd...too bad there wasn't a third.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 I don't like that the NHL is doing a gimmicky game. Although it seemed cool when Michigan and Michigan State did it. And they drew a huge attendence (only reason why the NHL is doing it anyway)
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2003 Not much of a hockey mark here, but what was the attendance? I know that a Michigan/Michigan State outdoor game a few years ago drew just under 70,000 or something, I was wondering if this broke it.

treble 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2003 I think he means for the Michigan/Michigan State game. I think the football capacity for Commonwealth is somewhere in the low 60,000s.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2003 Why wasn't there a 3rd period in the legends game? Stopped for cold? Or only scheduled for 2? I can't wait to see these games next week.
treble 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2003 Yeah, it was only scheduled for 2 15 minute halves. It looks so fucking cold there right now.

Maybe in college thats the reason, but outdoor hockey game between two Canadian Teams in Canada, where its a Canadian game. Attendence is probably the last thing they could care about.
