The reason I nominated them is because I saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on the list. This is the same thing. It was just a filmed version of the stage show. Yes, it was on a soundstage, but it was the exact same thing as the show. To my knowledge, there is no real "movie" version of it. Edited November 28, 2003 by moral suasion

Though anyone who likes either of these owes it to themselves to check out Sunday in the Park With George, which is probably his best show. But again, like I said, it's not like Sondheim is gonna get many votes anyway, so I should quit flappin' the gums. They're going to be out first-round in any case. I couldn't agree more about Sunday in the Park with George. Good suff. Ever hear Assassins? It is far and away my favorite Sondheim. Also, West Side Story it technically a Sondheim work which there is a film version of.

I think I like Sunday a bit more just because of all the metatextual stuff and the incredible set, but yeah, the guy's major works are pretty impeccable. And yes, West Side Story would count as a Sondheim, if not an all-Sondheim piece. I always forget that he was so involved in that. It really was a sort of musical-theater supergroup behind that one.

EDIT: Oh, and what about the South Park movie and Purple Rain? Do concert movies that were released in theaters count? Like the Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense and Led Zeppelin's The Song Remains the Same? The former unfolds like a story and is actually very theatrical and movie-like, if you ask me.
