After Spring Stampede the company just had no clue what they were doing, and to be honest didn't even try. It's shocking to believe the same company put out the stuff from the Summer of 1999 that put out Spring Stampede 99. I will actually say that Hogan/Sting wasn't the fall of WCW, nor was the whole Hogan/Nash incident. True, these were awful and politics ridden matches/incidents but by and large WCW's ratings and buyrates weren't going down the toilet. No, I will narrow it down to when they changed the Nitro set design in April 1999. DDP had just won the title and a lot of people were just bewildered as to why they would go in this direction. So they have him vs. Sting in the first hour of Nitro, and Sting beats him clean for the title. Everyone was like "Thank god they got it off DDP." And then the SAME SHOW they book a 4 way where DDP spent the whole match dicking around in the crowd protesting and then he snuck in to pin Nash to win the title back. From there we got DDP vs. Nash and then the whole hummer angle, etc. If you wanna know who to blame....blame DDP. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

However, much like how HHH/Angle/Steph was the beginning of the end for the WWE, Sting/Hogan was the end for WCW. Both represented a fundamental issue that either company couldn't fix and it spelled disaster. Often the end is right near the peak. It just takes a while for the effects to be seen. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 The reason that the Fingerpoke of Doom is considered the beginning of the end is that that was the night Skeevonee made his "Yeah, that'll put butts in seats" comment after revealing that Foley was going to be winning the title. Then, a ton of people watching flipped to Raw. The ratings began to tip in Raw's favor soon after. Of course, that's just when they started to lose the ratings war, not when they really started to go down the crapper. Jeff as a Horseman never worked out, and neither did the Jeff as a member of nWo platium so yeah Jeff Jarrett as the main man did not work. The whole Flair vs Shane Douglas angle was BS. It was still the same show. With the WWE in the mid-late 90's, when they changed their logo and set, they changed their mentality and direction as well. Some guy is going to say that WCW was garbage until WWF guys came in and made it cool. They didn't like it in WCW, though, cause Vince was too awesome. Then, Vince made a bunch of new superstars, and WCW died since they had a bunch of old geysers. WCW will always be second best. "They SUCCUMBED to Ted Turner's billions."
