JasonX 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2003 If Weaver has a terrific year next year with the Yankees, will all of the Weaver haters on this board give up the Weaver-Hating and give the man his props? Or has the last year turned Weaver into damaged goods, so damaged that his reputation will never be redeemed?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2003 One indication of Weaver's struggles are his horrific H/IP ratio. Recent research has shown that pitchers have less to do with balls in play than previously though, so his struggles might not be all his doing. The Yankees have poor defense, so its POSSIBLE that the defense is causing Weaver's problems. They're certainly not helping. A change of scenery might benefit Weaver. To answer the question, yes. Yankee fans would embrace a successful Weaver. He's one of baseball's nicer guys, and fans love a winner of any color.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 30, 2003 I'll always personally, no matter how good he might get, will remember him as the guy who killed my dreams in 2003. That's not to say that if he becomes good I'll still hate his guts, but I'll always remember.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2003 Anglesault, the Yankees are the victims of the Republican Curse. They last won the World Series during a GOP administration in 1958. After that, they've lost five straight world series (1960, 1976, 1981, 2001, 2003) during Republican administrations. Give up hope in 2004 and vote Democrat for a Yankee win in 2005. NYU 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2003 I'll always personally, no matter how good he might get, will remember him as the guy who killed my dreams in 2003. That's not to say that if he becomes good I'll still hate his guts, but I'll always remember. Killed your dreams? Jeez, come on. You won the World Series four times in six years, with the last one being only 3 years ago. Surely, you cannot have forgotten how it feels to have your team win the championship. I can understand being disappointed that the Yankees didn't win the World Series in 2003, but them not winning killed your dreams?! Even though you've been able to celebrate a World Series win FOUR times, if not more? I think someone's being a little dramatic.... How many teams in Major League Baseball have not won the World Series in the last decade? Have not gotten to the World Series? Have not gotten to the playoffs or not even in a playoff race? A good amount. The Yankees, on the other hand, have been in the race for almost the entire decade and actually won it 4 out of 5 times. Cubs fans, yeah, their dreams were shattered this year. Red Sox fans, yep, their dreams were crushed this year too. Yankees fans, unless they're three years old or younger, not a chance. You won more than enough World Series for the next couple of years already. Give another team a chance. As for Jeff Weaver, give him time. I say he may be a pretty good pitcher eventually.....even if he sucks now. But George can't stand to play the waiting game, so some deal will be made where Weaver - and truckloads of money - are sent to another team for a high profile player. Has happened constantly, and I'm sure it will happen once again.

You won the World Series four times in six years, with the last one being only 3 years ago. Yep. Do you have a point? Surely, you cannot have forgotten how it feels to have your team win the championship. Which makes me thirst for that feeling again. How many teams in Major League Baseball have not won the World Series in the last decade? Have not gotten to the World Series? Have not gotten to the playoffs or not even in a playoff race? A good amount Making the playoffs and going no where is not "hooray" worthy. 97 and especially 02 SUCKED. The 01 World Series sucked for me, but at least it was a fun ride. This Series was a disaster. Yankees fans, unless they're three years old or younger, not a chance. You won more than enough World Series for the next couple of years already The fuck? We're storing them? Are we squirrels? Why in the HELL should I WANT someone else to win? As for Jeff Weaver, give him time. I gave him time. He came to us in mid 02, and sucked pretty hard. He then had a full year this year to make up for it. He pitched worse and blew the World Series. I'm sick of waiting.

lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 He did lose ONE game in the series but that still doesn't explain that the Yankees lost other three games. Jeff Weaver didn't pitch any of those games so how could he be responsible for three losses that he had no impact on. Its up to the other players on the team to say " Well shit we lost that one but we can still win the damn series". So to say that one man cost them the World Series is stupid. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted December 1, 2003 IMO, of course, if Weaver doesn't pull a Weaver Special that night (Or to an even greater extent, if Aaron fucking Boone can just hit a fucking sac fly), the Yankees would be up 3-1, as opposed to all knotted up, giving them a little breathing room for an unforseen disaster (Wells back falling apart) and at the very least forcing two games in the Bronx. Game four is the where I can pin point everything going to hell. Weaver just started the ball rolling.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2003 Weaver never should of had the opportunity to pull a Weaver Special in the first place.
