Actress Yancy Butler arrested in Florida

Delray Beach, Florida-AP -- Actress Yancy Butler is facing criminal charges in Florida.

 

Police say Butler was charged with disorderly intoxication Saturday night after she wandered in and out of traffic. Other cars apparently had to swerve to avoid hitting her.

 

Police say the star of the canceled T-N-T series "Witchblade" told officers she was an alcoholic on medication. According to the police report, Butler first said she had been kicked out of a halfway house but then admitted she was still in one.

 

Delray Beach police took Butler to a substance abuse center, but it refused to accept her after she allegedly became hostile. So she was handcuffed and taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.

 

In addition to the disorderly intoxication charge, Butler is also facing a charge of resisting an officer without violence.

Witchblade and the short-lived (but still one of my favorites) Mann and Machine. Damn it's a shame back in the day she was one good looking woman. She's had a problem with alcohol for several years IIRC. Hope she can kick the habit and get straightened out.

WOW, has she fallen.

 

She was never on top of the world as an actress, I know, but man......going from having a national TV show to living in a halfway house in the space of two years is a pretty big drop.

 

BTW, for those who care, the company line was that while Witchblade did okay in the ratings and had a pretty decent fanbase, TNT was sufficiently freaked by Yancy's addictions that they flat out cancelled the show.

I believe that was part of the reason along with the ratings. IIRC she would have had to take like most of a season's worth of shooting off to get through rehab and TNT wasn't willing to write off a whole season without the main character (which is understandable I guess). This was a few years ago and I only got to see an episode or 2 so I may be off a bit on the particulars.
