Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2004 Did anyone hear Darren Pang Tuesday night on ESPN Overnight? They just played a bit of his interview on the Senators pregame show, and he basically accused Dominik Hasek of flat-out quitting on the team, and never having any interest in playing this season in the first place (except for that fat contract). Darren Pang is just a moron who has always bashed Hasek, and has continued to bash him basically because Hasek made him look like a fool based on his original bashing (which was garbage like "Hasek is the worst goalie ever, he will never be any good in the NHL because his technique is not good" and so on). It's also really funny to hear a lot of the people (such as the press) sucking Joseph's dick nowadays, because mainly they are the same people that shit on him when he left Edmonton for Toronto for a big FA contract, or when he left Toronto for Detroit and an even bigger FA contract, and claimed he was a merc and only in it for the money. And as a fan of the Wings, I will say this: the next time the Wings win the Stanley Cup, which will hopefully this year, when everything is said and done the guy who will be in net when the final buzzer sounds is Manny Legace. Joseph is nothing more than a passenger and will never carry a team to victory.

Yeah, ok. Yeah, so he changed his tune one time way after the fact. I guess that's supposed to be impressive or something? If you listened to these guys in the mid-90s you would know they were signing a much different tune about Hasek.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2004 Back to back big wins for my Sabres on back to back nights. If I didn't know any better...I'd say this team actually wants to make a run at the playoffs. Now...if only the frigging Islanders would stop winning. Or Montreal...maybe Montreal can keep losing. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 In the Blackhawks latest move to get rid of anyone even remotely talented, the Predators acquired Steve Sullivan for a pair of second-round draft picks yesterday. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I think Nashville could actually make the playoffs this year. Chicago? Not so much. Chicago would have a hard time winning the Frozen 4 this year, let alone make the NHL playoffs. While I recognize why they can't do anything about it, I really wish the league could intervene and stop Wirtz from further fucking up one of the original 6 teams. I couldn't care less about the new teams, but to see a team that has such a rich history in the league get turned into a laughingstock just sucks. I wish the NHL could do with the Hawks what MLB did with that team in Montreal and assume ownership. On a completely unrelated note, congratulations to the Sabres fans on the board. Your boys are looking really good lately. I'd like to see them leapfrog over the Isles and Habs and sneak into the playoffs. And to show how distorted the league is this year, I'd choose the Sabres (who are stuck in last place in the NE) over any team in the SE except the Lightning. And TB only has so many points because they have the luxury of playing the Caps, Canes, Thrashers and Panthers so often.

The Expos situation has been an unmitigated disaster for all involved. The league does need to force a sale, however. And how great would it be to see the entire Northeast division make the playoffs? While it's not my best idea ever, I'm sticking with my "league owns the team" dream. While my top choice would be to force a sale (to someone that cared even a slight bit about the team and it's fans, rather than just the almighty dollar), I'd rather have ANYONE own the team than Wirtz. It amazes me, as a Bruins fan who absolutely despises Jeremy Jacobs, that Wirtz might have done more irreperable damage to his fanbase than Jacobs has. Of course, no one is more hated than JJ: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/2001/0710/1224543.html And I agree, it'd be awesome to see all 5 NE teams make the postseason. It'd be so old-school to see division rivals playing in the postseason (reminiscent of the Bruins-Whalers, then Bruins-Canadiens postseason battles year in and year out)
treble 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 Fuck, no way in hell do I want the Sabres in the playoffs, especially if they're going to draw a lower seed and the Leafs are at the top. It's hard enough worrying about having to play the Islanders (when the Leafs can't win on the Island) or Montreal (even though that's the series I want the most, I'd be worried about playing Theodore in the first round), if not Jersey, Philly, Ottawa, Boston, or Tampa, but Buffalo owns the Leafs and I don't need to sit through a first round loss to a team they should handle easily. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2004 TC, am I reading your post wrong, or are there NO teams that you'd like the Leafs to face in round 1? Because if playing no one is an option, I'd like to see the Bruins play in round 2 for a change. Having said that, the teams that I'd most like the Bruins to face in round 1 are either Tampa or Montreal. And not just because I think that they'd be two of the most "win-able" series, but because I'm a very selfish person. If the B's were playing in Tampa, you'd see nl5 on a road trip to warm and sunny Florida. It'll already be April, so it's not like it'll be the dead of winter here or anything. But it'd be a fun trip to make for the first 2 games of the series. And if we played the Habs, I could drive up for each game that was in Montreal and barely have to miss work. I went up for the Montreal games when the B's and Habs played 2 years ago (fucking first round upset!) and would do that again in a heartbeat. Toronto & Ottawa are too far to drive to without having tickets in advance, Philly and Long Island are shitholes (plus, I'd be hesitant to go to Philly as a fan of the visiting team), and Jersey plays on an exit ramp off the highway. If the Sabres made it, and ended up matched against the Bruins, I'd contemplate making the drive - if tickets were available.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Watching the finish to the Senators/Capitals game, I can clearly say that this season is featuring the worst fucking officiating I have ever seen in my entire life. Brendan Witt got called for a four-minute high-sticking penalty a minute into overtime -- CLEARLY a deserved penalty, as he pretty much whacked Peter Schaefer in the side of the head and drew blood -- and the refs couldn't even it up fast enough, as they called Jason Spezza for the biggest phantom call you'll ever see with 2:15 left, negating what would likely have been a Senators win at a very crucial point of the season. It's like they were apologizing to Witt for calling that penalty on him. It's fucking disgusting. I may miss the NHL if the lockout happens next season, but I certainly won't miss the piss-poor excuses for referees currently overseeing NHL games. (Incidentally, Olie the Goalie made 47 saves and singlehandedly got Washington a point in a 1-1 tie.)

Because if playing no one is an option, I'd like to see the Bruins play in round 2 for a change. It's just that there isn't a team that will likely make the playoffs that I think would be 'easy' to beat. I think the Leafs can beat any of the teams in the East, but there's no team that's a sure thing (or, as close as you can get to it) like there usually is in the top 8 of the conference. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Oh, it's ON now... http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1737956 WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals traded their all-time leading scorer, Peter Bondra, to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday for center Brooks Laich and a second-round pick in 2005. The struggling Capitals have now traded two of their biggest-name players in recent weeks. They also sent superstar scorer Jaromir Jagr to the New York Rangers last month for winger Anson Carter. "This is an extremely difficult trade for the organization," general manager George McPhee said in a statement. "On the ice, Peter played his heart out for the Washington Capitals, and off the ice he had time for everyone. He has remained a humble man while living in the rarified environment of a star athlete." Playing in his 14th NHL season since Washington drafted him in the eighth round in 1990, Bondra has played in 961 games for the Capitals to rank second in team history, behind only Calle Johansson's 983 games. The right wing has 825 career points, 472 goals, 137 power-play goals and 19 hat tricks. Bondra should help the contending Senators immediately. Ottawa is tied with Toronto atop the Northeast Division, and also battling Philadelphia for the best record in the Eastern Conference. "Peter Bondra deserves a chance to compete for a Stanley Cup, and I regret that we couldn't give him that opportunity in D.C. this year," Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis said. "I know what he means to our fan base, but allowing him the opportunity to win a Cup is important." Laich has spent all but one game this season with Binghamton of the AHL, and has 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points in 44 contests.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Why the FUCK can't the Bruins make a trade like the Bondra one?!? Yes, I recognize that he's due to get $6-million/year, but this is the last year that he's guaranteed that money, with next year being a club option. So, basically pay him for the remainder of this season and then let him walk. The B's have enough prospects to afford to lose one, and a 2nd round pick isn't that much to add on top of it. Winning a playoff series would MORE than pay the remainder of Bondra's salary, and would have given the Bruins two very good lines. But, no, they'll just sit on their ass for now. Maybe pick up another #5 or 6 defenseman, or another 3rd line forward to add to the collection of crap.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2004 Knowing Toronto's luck, getting some one on the deadline, or near it, that player will be hurt for a significant amount of time. I can see Gonchar on the leafs, but who'd they trade away?
treble 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2004 Looking at what the Caps got for Bondra, if I'm the Leafs my first offer would be Antropov, Berg, and maybe a high draft pick. The Caps are giving up a top flight defenceman and getting back a forward with a ton of potential and another serviceable defenceman. The Leafs are deep at forward and even though Antropov could be a very good player, he's expendable and if they're getting Gonchar they don't need Berg anymore. Of course, this is just my fantasy world. He'll probably end up in Colorado like everyone else seems to.
