Funniest Thing On

Recommended Posts

Little is known about Akio, with the exception being that he hails from Japan and is a product of a Japanese wrestling tradition that has produced some of the great names in sports entertainment, past and present.

I mean the guy was Jimmy Yang in WCW

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 183 lbs

Real Name: James Yun

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

Other Names: Yun Yang(WCW), The Yangster(WCW)

Wrestler Since: 1999

Finishing Maneuver: Fists of Fury, Yang Time

Hell he was even in TNA for a time. But I guess another great example of if it didn't happen in the WWE it didn't happen at all.

I really really hate it when professional wrestling is called "sports entertainment."

:firing: sports entertainment

I better get to the hospital. I laughed so hard that I fell off my chair, banged my head on the wall, and now there's a big blood stain on the floor. When the doctor asks me what happened, I'll just tell him "Jimmy Yang = Akio." I'm sure he'll understand. Hopefully he won't hurt himself from the side-splitting laughter.

But man....Jimmy Yang...

......good times.

Right, I can't top that out, so I'll simply respond with...

They've been doing that for years ... this shows how old I am, but I remember when the Rockers first came to the WWF, and the announcer kept saying that he knew nothing about them, even though he was one of the announcers for the AWA when the Midnight Rockers were there. I want to say his name was Rod Tronguard or something like that. If you're going to read a page like wwe.com you kind of have to leave your smartness at the door, and pretend that you're clueless.

I don't mind them working wrestlers backgrounds (infact, they should do it more often), but when it's "well, he's black, let's make him from Harlem... or some part of Africa" or "He's Asian, and since they all look alike we can get away with making him Japanese" or "He speaks French, so he's from France", then it gets borderline racist.

The fact that Yang wrestled a Heat match against Tommy Dreamer a couple of months back is what amuses me. HE'S BEEN ON YOUR PROGRAMMING! RECENTLY! UNDER HIS FORMER NAME! It's not like he was even under a mask or anything - anyone with half a brain who'd never watched any WCW or TNA and had never heard of him could have seen that match, then watched "Akio" emerge on SmackDown a few weeks later. Ludicrous.

Anyway, I thought someone said that Yang's of Korean descent? Mind you, we have French-Canadians pretending to be French and I'm pretty sure Korea=Japan in the WWE's eyes.

Well, be fair. Nobody actually watches Heat.

Hell, the management and creative team don't watch it then why should we?

To be fair, Heat gets about 25% of the WWE's audience - which means 1 in 4 WWE fans saw it.  That's hardly "nobody".

I wouldn't consider the WWE audience big right now, so 1 out 4 is nearly nobody.

I always thought that the bio's are kayfabed. Unless WWE do actually think that they picked him up straight from Japan ;)

Would have it been hard for them to say. Akio has had much experience with some of todays top crusierweights such as Jamie Knoble when he was known as Jimmy Yang. For this reason Tajiri has gotten him a job on SMACKDOWN! and has purchased his assitance in helping to protect his crusierweight title. He has also opted for a name change as he feels he wants a clean slate to launch his SMACKDOWN! career from.
